- Hi everyone, thanks to the manager of Brighton’s HMV I was given the amazing opportunity to film inside the new revamped HMV shop, the day before it opens to the public. I hope you enjoy the video.
Awesome of the manager to let you in for a filming. It looks gorgeous. There are so many things I’d like. I’ll live vicariously through your videos 😂

Hi Lisa, yeah it was a surprise to get invited, I’m just a guy who buys movies each Monday, so to be given exclusive access was incredible to say the least, I guess they are happy with my channel and love for the store 🤔 they have done a great job and have used the space very well, it’s much more accessible, yes Lisa, let me be your guide 🤣 thank you Lisa, take care👍😃👍

Great tour Alan, very interesting to see the way HMV are moving... VERY similar to what they're doing with our JB Hi-Fi stores over here - a reduced physical media section and half a store of merch. It'll take some time to get used to, but like you said - as long as they're kept in business, that's the main thing. I'll be back in the UK in August, looking forward to checking a store out.
Hi Dave, ooh that’s interesting to her about JB HI-Fi too, it certainly seems that it’s the way forward for them as well 🧐 it’s so important to keep these stores on the high street, when HMV went into administration a few years ago, I noticed the prices started to creep on on Amazon almost overnight as the competition was gone 😬 that’s awesome mate, how long are you down for? @@kermitsghost Definitely noticed that too! And it seems prices never really went back down? I've noticed physical seems to be a bit more expensive since then. I was actually doing some temp work for HMV's Fopp store in Cambridge during the administration... so it was very interesting to see it all happening from the inside.
We'll be back, probably, for a month!
Thanks for the tour Alan. It does look very different from how I remember it. I know some don’t like the new ‘retro’ style stores but I personally love them. Where else can you buy a 4k, a funko, comic book, action figure and a kitkat in the same shop. Lol I know the physical media has been reduced but if that means we keep HMV on the high street then I’m all for it. 👍

Always felt like the Brighton store had a lot more room for blu rays than other branches. Glad they have a business model which keeps them open
It’s a massive store, I think if you put all the separate Blu-ray areas together, then it’s not much of a change overall, the dvd section however is dramatically smaller. I feel the same, as long as they are open, that’s all that matters, cheers mate, take care 👍😃👍

Hi Carl, yeah it’s a lot different to the last time you saw it 😬 as long as the new titles are available, then I’m sorted as I have a fair few back catalogue movies in my collection 🤣 there are still a lot of areas dedicated to movies, they have just made better use of the space, cheers mate, take care👍😃👍

Hi Matt, yeah I’m afraid that physical media isn’t the dominant selling point in the store anymore (which cuts me to the quick 🥲) but we as collectors have to accept the changes ahead and compromise. I may have to relocate to Germany if it continues to shrink 🤣 cheers mate, take care👍😃👍

I remember the good old days in Brighton when HMV was on the 1st floor directly opposite the Virgin Megastore and you were spoilt for choice on where to buy your films from.
Ahh those were the days, you could also go to MVC in air street as well as Woolworth 😢 we just didn’t realise how good we had it, take care mate👍😃👍

I see that your store has gone the same way as our Southampton store, I am personally not a huge fan of this merchandise stuff but I understand it’s the way they have to go to survive and glad you can still get physical media in store 👍🏻
I completely agree with you David, we have to acclimatise to the current market, it’s the merchandise that keeps the store on the high street. As long as they keep stocking movies and new release titles they will continue to get my custom, yeah I think most stores are heading this way, cheers mate, take care👍😃👍
I'm happy that HMV still exists. If they have to make changes to survive the high Street then so be it.

I completely agree with you, we need to support them and keep them on the high street, with no competition, Amazon will start to increase the prices 🤑 take care mate👍😃👍

Brilliant video Alan as always such a shame to see hmv go this way now days but if that’s what it it that’s what is it s such a shame but if there still open then that’s all that’s good to me

Looks good, glad they have kept the Arrow, 101, 88 Films and Criterion sections on the Blu Rays. Being my local store I shall have a visit sometime next week.

Wow what a refurbish how has it been 3 weeks since I was there😱 and it looks absolutely amazing. What a very kind gesture from the HMV management to get an exclusive look that’s awesome. Roll on the next Brighton meet-up can’t wait to witness this store again 😁

Great video mate. People moan about the new hmv stores not having enough physical media. Like you said it’s become a niche market now and if hmv need to sell t shirts & funko pops to survive I’m all for it I go to my store every week and get all my new releases from hmv
That’s exactly right Alan, you can still pick up boutique label movies and new releases and a fair amount of back catalog titles, I’m all for the revamping if it keep the store open, cool to hear you use them on a regular basis mate, take care👍😃👍

I"m really not to sure that shelves of sweets, fluffy items, rock sacks, & board games would really be items that regular HMV customers will go for 🤔just seems that there"s a lot of it, i guess that HMV would of done their homework on this, i"m sure other stores would have these items, & rather staying heavy on physical media based items & staying retro & unique they"ve gone on this route, i guess time will tell.

The cardiff flagship branch had a refurbishment last year it used to have a entire floor dedicated to movies its now just a wall on the ground floor. Also ive heard that hmv are returning to the republic of Ireland

A shame to see so much 'merch', same as here in my Coventry HMV, but it is what it is, and it keeps the physical media stores open 👍
The merchandise area has taken over the space the dvd section was taking up, I think the amount of Blu-rays is pretty much the same just spread around in different areas now. Yeah as long as the store stays open, it’s all good. Cheers mate, take care👍😃👍
Nice of the manager to let you film in there I guess they need the mighty Kermit's Ghost to advertise (for me anyway) these awful new look shops. I don't go in them anymore sadly. You've got more physical media in there than my local one at least. As you say they have to change to survive though and im glad your happy with it.👍
Hi Richard, they are such a nice team in Brighton’s HMV, it was an amazing honour to get first look inside the new store, I know there’s a reduction in physical media but your right, if it keeps the stores afloat, then it’s a compromise we all have to accept, that being said, there’s still a lot of movies in here. Im afraid other than the films I simply did not see anything in the HMV store that I would ever buy.
Same with me Larry, the movie area is still large and divided into a few zones, they just made better use of the space but I’m only there for the movies too, cheers mate, take care 👍😃👍

That’s Ok mate, it’s a huge change but the physical media is still quite large, it’s just spread about a bit, there’s still a boutique label section, catalog titles, new releases, Family/Superhero/anime and a Television section, it’s just that the store is huge and there’s lots going on, I don’t mind all the collectibles as long as the store stays open, that’s what matters in the long run, cheers mate, take care👍😃👍
