- Julia is back out walking and brings her lovely newborn, Joseph, to join me for a stroll along the river Adur just north of Shoreham. We are exploring the estuary with its airport adjacent, World War Two pill boxes and the old toll bridge.
There is also the monument erected in memory of the eleven men who died as a result of the air disaster in 2015 at the Shoreham Air Show that year.

mini-me's first explore!!! how exciting!!! thank you for allowing us to join in!
We loved getting out on that day, especially Julia with little Joseph. :)
Good friends out on a lovely walk - such a pleasing video. The airshow disaster memorial is beautiful, I must make a point of visiting it. I love all the detail that reflects the life and interests of each of the eleven who died in that awful event.
It was lovely to have Julia out with me on another video walk and little Joseph to accompany us.
Wonderful walk. Loved the memorial.
It is amazing what is on one's doorstep. Thanks Judith.
In a full gale, I would think that memorial would sing
Oh yes, I bet it would sing! I hadn't thought of that!
Ah yes, it's great to see Julia back. maybe you should go on a plane ride from Shoreham Airport,up over East Sussex and back, I did once with my Grandad, I don't know how much it is though. I didn't know that more memorial to the air crash, I wouldn't mind going there that's quite interesting.I remember when it happened, it was quite saddening. well done Richard and Julia and Joseph for that matter! great video👍
The air crash was a terrible thing. The worrying thing was I could well have been driving on the stretch of road where the plane came down - it was dreadful for the families of the victims.
A beautifully made video, a gentle stroll in the warm sunshine. Julia and Joseph doing well, lovely to see them. That was a bonus seeing the planes take off. Sometimes if I get out you can see the small planes coming over from Shoreham.
It is lovely to watch the planes come and go, although I wouldn't want to live under the flight path.
Great walk 👍🏻
Aw 😊 what a fab video! Julia and Joseph are both glowing! You too Richard 😉 Love your morning uploads, such a treat with my coffee 🙏✨x
Thank you so much - it means a lot that you enjoy the videos.
I been this town for 10 year Thanks
Loved the walk! Such a beautiful blue day you had. Meanwhile, we have had 3 straight days of rain here in OR & I'm just itching to get back in my garden! Loved the views of the Church, college & The Downs!
Thanks Lisa. Hope you get i the garden soon!
Little Joseph seemed to enjoy that walk as much as everybody else did. He is adorable ❤❤❤
I think the fresh air did him good! Thanks Damian.
😬Yeah get the stink bug away from the baby!!! He's beautiful Julia!!! So cute!!!!👶🏻 He did really well for his 1st official walk. Thanks Uncle Richard for all the close ups!
I am sure Joseph will be making any more appearances in the videos. He is a cute baby.
@@RichardVobes hopefully Many more!😉
That’s a lovely walk and that is a very poignant memorial.
I’m glad that Julia is enjoying the sling - Angie had one of those for the boys and she used to put them in there all the time.
It's very convenient, the sling I mean. I tried it too, although not in the video. :)
Great video. Thanks.
Golly you watched that quickly.
@@RichardVobes Just getting towards the end now! Very pleasant pace to the video.
Thanks very much for watching Tim.
Lovely video! I’ve walked that walk many times in my youth. I still have a spent gun shell from the war that I found on one of my walks around a pill box one day, some 40 years ago now.
I remember my family would enjoy watching the air show from our front bedroom on Old Shoreham Road. We would also sail and fish on the river. It’s a shame to see the apartment buildings (flats) going up all over.
I hope you can go check out the church, it’s Old Shoreham Church not Saint Mary’s...that’s in the center of town I believe. Also there were some lovely thatch cottages on Connaught Ave, not far from the church and the Red Lion pub, I hope they’re still there. I would love to see them in another of your wonderful videos. Thanks Richard, lovely to see Julia out and about with you too.
Thanks Caroline. Yes such a shame these flats are lining the river and estuary. We shall have to go walking around old Shoreham another time soon and see what is what. Thanks so much for watching.
A regular walk for me back in the day, loved it, long enough to keep a kid entertained short enough that I wouldn't moan lol 😂
Lovely to see Julia and the baby out! 😁
That's St Nicholas Church, my dad ran the newsagent not far from it and the Amsterdam. I was also christened there and my parents were married there.
Is the war museum still in the airport? It had planes and the actual museum was in a tin like shed and filled with momentoes and such. Jen
I haven't been to the airport for years - must go and make a video there. I think there is still a museum, but need to check. Thanks so much for watching and sharing extra info, Jen!
They spent £20,000,000 on those Sea Defences only to be demolished as it ‘Leaking’. Outrageous waste of money.
Church is St Nicholas, St Mary’s is in the Town.
Love Shoreham so much.
Didn’t realise that crash was in that part of the world , very sad , what’s a stink bug never heard that before ? I wonder if Lansing the state capital of Michigan was named after that Lansing in your video ?
I cannot tell you about Lancing and the American one I am afraid. Thanks so much for watching.
We have stink bugs here in Oregon and Washington. They are a type of beetle (I believe). I think they get their name cause if you smash them they have a really disgusting stench. My brother smashed one in the car after we left my grandparents house in WA to head back to OR. It stunk up the whole car something fierce - we had to leave the windows down for like 2 hrs on the very hot eastern WA prairie lands/wheat fields in the middle of summer. Mind you, temps can get well over 100° in that area during that time of the year!
They sound quite horrid! :)
does that river always dry up like that?
yep
It is tidal, so it does that every day.
Twice a day, every day! It's a tidal thing ...
