Good evening! And welcome to this walk around the famous seaside resort of New Brighton, located just across the River Mersey from Liverpool, and named after its creator sought to turn it into a luxurious destination like Brighton on the south coast.

I’ve only been to New Brighton once on a Sunday school trip with my aunt and cousin when aged 4 or 5.
The only thing I can remember vividly was being on the Liverpool to New Brighton ferry and being stood at the blunt end watching the wash from the propellers when the wind blew off my cap and watching it vanish into the distance behind the boat.
Funny how you remember the little things.

Not been since the mid-late 60s but brings back memories. Had family in Liverpool so on our infrequent visits, would get the ferry to Wallasey then into the Guinea Gap swimming baths. A cup of hot orange/blackcurrant then a walk up the front to New Brighton. Past the old miniature railway then to the open air lido. Back on the boat to Liverpool, and if you were really lucky, the Royal Iris would be in service. The Ealing 'comedy' the Magnet [1950] was filmed there. It's on my bucket list for a return before departing this mortal coil...

From an old Brit living in Canada, I can say during WW II, we spent many happy holidays at New Brighton. It was a amazing what enjoyment we got from spending two shillings on the penny slot machines. And having our lunch in the Government run lunch rooms.

Many thanks for an enjoyable video. My wife and I like to visit New Brighton every now and then for its flat, sea and riverside promenade walks. If you are ever in that area again, you might think it worth a look at the "Magazine Village" a little further along the promenade from the pirate ship heading towards Wallasey. As the name suggests, this is where the gunpowder magazines and also a gun battery were located. There are still some remains of the original magazine and the area has some characterful buildings, old cottages and a couple of pubs one of which (The Magazine Hotel) dates back to the mid 1700's.

There was once a zoo and I fed an elephant a peanut. At age 4 my Dad took me to see my first elephant. From then on, I was forbidden to walk along the prom to New Brighton. I was drawn to it like a magnet. I used to go and watch everyone on the rides at the fairground. No rides for me. Watching was enough. The zoo was free. That's where I first saw a lion. A little girl age 7 or 8.
