I had a Honda Silverwing, and I got to tell you, that GL1100, that's one of the most badass Goldwing I've have ever seen in my life. The Mad Max flat black, de-bagged, Earl's Plumbing, built like a 70's hot rod, just awesome. That turbo wastegate sound, makes it all worthwhile. 💯💯💯💯
Nice collection of videos, It's great to see what ingenuity can accomplish. As I understand it, many of the old two stroke racing bikes used superchargers ( you should see the videos of the 50 cc class at the Isle of Mann), as well as some of the old automobile manufacturers. I believe that the old Bentley Le Mans racing cars used a supercharger with direct drive from the front of the crankshaft. If I'm not mistaken, the P38 twin engine fighters used superchargers and nitrous for increased speed and ceiling. Sure, you can buy something that with electronics and micro-tolerance technology will out perform any old tech you can find, but where's the challenge in that? I'd rather see some guy riding a machine he built himself in his barn, than some rich guy who can drop a hundred g to get someone else to design and build the latest hi-tech whiz bang.
Actually, you'll find the inherent losses in electrical systems tend to make them far less effective as a turbo or a super. The biggest issue is generator efficiency, which is between 50-80%, whereas mechanical systems with few parts can achieve high 80s. When you're trying to improve power via a feedback loop, the higher your efficiency the more power you have to use to moving instead of spooling, so mechanical systems still reign supreme. It also is more reliable as the speed of the super or turbo is mechanically linked to the engine speed, no control circuit or driver circuits which also require some power. Besides, the best turbo bikes are the ones that use turbine engines. They're pre-turbocharged! Can your piston engine hit 40,000RPM? I just want to see bikes to the way of aviation, with rugged reliable piston machines for lower speeds and maneuverability, and turboshaft motors for high speed speed demons screaming down the highway. PS-flying cars are way less achievable then flying bikes. Take a turboshaft bike, give it shitty wings, speed down the road at 200mph, take off and stick it in neutral so that the thrust from the motor propels you. Flying bikes!
Lol - the Norton Commando. I wonder how long that lasted? I used to own one, it was pretty fragile as standard and used to eat gearboxes. I can't imagine how it would hold-up with a supercharger installed...
Those six cyl Honda CBX 1000 were fast as hell, I can't imagine one with a turbo, I knew a guy that bought one new, I don't think he had it three months and he was dead, he was going so fast, he broke the rear axle of a dump truck when he hit it.
Moto Guzzi,500cc Falcons, single .they built 10's of thousands but never for US market, turbo would make the thing useless as a daily driver. They are a blast to hit a few curves with.
I've worked on a couple ol "American turbo pack" bikes. This was the same company who make the kit Kawasaki sold as the Z1r turbo. The turbo itself was a little oversized which made the hit a bit much when you got on it, and they had a tendency to flood when starting. One interesting one was a luftmeister turbo kitted BMW RS that I got put back together and running for a guy. Was a better thought out kit and worked well, but it also cooked the top end of the engine.
@@johnbingaman3645 The period of BMW boxer engines had notoriously bad exhaust valves and seats, what happened to this one was the exhaust valves burned.
I wonder what they have done to the crankshaft on that Nimbus, it was always its acilles heel, having only 2 bearings. As I recall it, all above 27 hp broke the shaft. But man, did it sound great!
I've never heard of Nimbus. That exhaust was beautiful but not really practical. I'd reroute that asap for both show and most importantly go!/safety/function. The shovel at Bonneville gave me wood.
Yup! Actually, one of my Harley-Davidson's will do nicely north of 100mph. Not bad for a "Touring" bike. My Buell (Special Built Sportster engine powered - See Eric Buell if you do not know about them) was a blast to ride. It would leave riders of non-American made sport bikes scratching their head by the next stop.
Wonky Lommiter sadly enough it's true I've owned them slow as fuck and always had a problem, definitely the last engine on this planet that should have a turbo
Robert Beck go change the CDI on your tao tao so you can go pop wheelies in your cul-de-sac.and thats probably giving you more credit than you deserve.
Rust Belt Auto I know, That was my reason for my asking ! Looks are one thing, running is quite another ! Snap, Crackle, Pop ! and I'm not talking about Rice Crispies here ! Cold hearted would be one thing, but even after having run enough to warm up, they are still running a bit questionable, with one or two exceptions !
Well NONE of them seemed very fast ( maybe that one Honda ) I've been wanting to either put a turbo or supercharger system on one of my sport bikes ( because of the new H2R lol) but it almost seems like a "home" aftermarket system is just for looks and without NOS wouldn't be very effective. I HAVE stage 3 jetts and aftermarket intake pods ( which are a MUST without faring and air resonator) I'm just not sure anything further would be THAT much of a boost except for NOS of course lol
That saltflat harley, could still hear it clear as a bell when he crossed the border. Running smooth as a clock. Want it. Need it.
Love the old gold wing turbo .
That shovel at the end sounded sweet as a nut too .
Great vid
Now that is what I call an overhead cam.
Listen to that run! Music to the ears. Thanks Jawa.
6:13 OMFG I love that sound.
For me it's 8:23
That turbo shovelhead is cool as is gets for me.
Damn that last Harley had some long ass gears 😂👌
Need them on the salt flats for that top end
@@johnbingaman3645 ohhhh didn’t even think about that, thanks! :) super rad
I wished we could see the second bike (Harley) driven back with the side stand.😂😂
Love the last shovelhead, man it runs and runs and runs for ever.
Looks fast even at idle !what was his top speed ?
Burt Monroe !!

At 7:00
in the video
I had a 77 Sportster, and that was hard enough to hold together, without adding a boost pump, I mean, I value my thighs, and legs.
That BMW with the slim supercharger driveshaft is a beaut!
What makes a supercharged vintage triumph perfect? Fitting a front wheel without brakes!!
That Nimbus at the start.... I got all fussy and warm inside 😎
Старые мотоциклы очень красивые,. Глаза радуют.
Think they could have found a louder fuel pump?
kawadude mcdouble for a second I thought it was a pre oiler it was so damn loud.
It was a turbocharged fuelpump...lol.
scavenge pump for oil return
Could use that for a foghorn
Oil pump for the turbo
Triumph sounds the best hands down.....and the shovelhead at the end.
The Triumph's clip ons are so low the rider must lose teeth to bumps in the road.
1:40 riding with the kickstand down is bad for your health.
Did anybody noticed on a turbocharged Harley that the fuel line is right on the exhaust and it's rubber
Joshua Moody You ten.
Martin D its all an ice cube reference
glad to see somebody else noticed that
Only when you turn left.
Shovel turbo sounded the best of them all
think I have one locked up back for the great grand kids to do some salt
chopy noises and turbo noises together HUH that sounds kinda awsome....
That Nimbus sounds mean, even the original Nimbus Sport sounds fantastic.
Всем здравия!!!!!!!!
Очень красивые, крутые мотоциклы, мне нравится, я восхищаюсь!!!!))))
A turbo on a harley, 😀,its like putting a thermal image scope on a flintlock musket
Eddie Caplan probably the best comparison I’ve ever heard
True. But I’d click that video, too.
ha ha ha brilliant, i suppose it would give the Harley rider and his boyfriend something to talk about though.
LOL
LMFAO. Perfect analogy
Love that pre-unit Triumph.
that 1st bike,proper steampunk.

Wtf i seriously thought it was the start of that "Benny Hill song" when he started the fuelpump at 0:26 :D :D
eikrules - that's the title track from Boots Randolph's album "Yakety Sax"
(don't ask why I know that...)
9:20 well wasn't expecting that. Nice
Turboing a harley Is like trying to race a cement mixer
09:10 Incredible sound and speed of a Harley Davidson... Nice.
OH shit man, that shovel bellerrrrred. People in the next county heard that.
slowpokebr549
Just one of two that ran right, sounded right, and looked right !
The exhaust on the CBX strategically positioned to remove the hair from your lower legs.
The guy who made his own bike garage in the storage unit. Now that's making the most of what you have.
Lol - the Norton Commando. I wonder how long that lasted? I used to own one, it was pretty fragile as standard and used to eat gearboxes. I can't imagine how it would hold-up with a supercharger installed...
Loved my 70 Commando but the same thoughts went through my head. Mine lost the cam pawl at a stop light bad day.
That salt flat Harley was bad too the bone
Am I the only one that would never run an open turbo? I mean how much hp are you really saving? Is it worth the risk?
Man he had on shorts, flip flops, and drove with the kickstand down!
That Shovelhead land speed racer sounded mean as hell.
Those six cyl Honda CBX 1000 were fast as hell, I can't imagine one with a turbo,
I knew a guy that bought one new, I don't think he had it three months and he was dead, he was going so fast, he broke the rear axle of a dump truck when he hit it.
The tank on that beemer made it look pregnant😅
Interesting, even with a turbo or supercharger upgrade 1991 Harley Davidson motorcycle is something great.
Dude was brave doing that in shorts! I made that mistake once with an enduro Yamaha IT 200 two stroke head pipe.....
1:38, How many times have you cooked the inside of your leg?
Look at the placement of the fuel line, sitting right on the pipe. Fire hazard for sure
Turbo without air filter = motor with shortened life
yas, but sound is waaaahhh
We don't care. If that was our concern, we'd be sailing galeons still.
He hasn't turbo'd it to make it last longer . . . . . .
THANK YOU TREVOR!
THAT CBX 1000 IS NICE!
The Nimbus runs nice tho..
That BMW R75 @ 1:50 is supercharged, if I'm not mistaken. And thoroughly hacked all over. Good job!
Moto Guzzi,500cc Falcons, single .they built 10's of thousands but never for US market, turbo would make the thing useless as a daily driver. They are a blast to hit a few curves with.
Need that shovelhead turbo kit
Where did he find a flow through carb for the turbo sportster?!
Not too terribly difficult to track down.
You'll find one my guy just keep searching! 😉😁😃😎
Let's be honest that is fucking awesome
I've worked on a couple ol "American turbo pack" bikes. This was the same company who make the kit Kawasaki sold as the Z1r turbo. Sound like when the turbo kicked in it made the engine run way too lean which would melt the top end put a hole in the piston
@@johnbingaman3645 The period of BMW boxer engines had notoriously bad exhaust valves and seats, what happened to this one was the exhaust valves burned.
That Last Harley was badass! Wow! Gone! And kept going i wonder who that was and how fast he went?
Randy sundquist 106.3mph
Soo many experts here .What have you build youself.?
Faaan va ni vet å gjøra bråk....
Many southamericanns glisar stort !
Go on my RUclips channel and on my other one Brucekirk89
Loads of bike & car engines for over 40yrs. .. what have you built ?
Just ask if they know 1 down 5 up
How you put turbo on the thumbnail but half of these bikes aren't even through Turbo
MURKIN RANZYZ maybe he intended "supercharged" old bikes
AgoProduction &Co probably
The video went off the rails right off the bat with the first bike being supercharged.
I don't know much about bmw, but were there two extra spark plugs on the left side of the bike?
Spares. Has a wrench for the plugs right there too.
WOW! The BMW. That is some awesome engineering.
Bet that 2nd bike with the tiny bars handles like a dream 😒😕
I would have thought that supercharger on some of the older bikes would've called more power than they made
1.08 that's one crazy handle bar set up
darrin goodbrand the Triumph rider at 4.05 is going to lose his teeth if he hits a speedbump.
the Harley at beginning was a death trap....
For sure , with that fuckig handlebar tho
With the turbo after the carb Sending fuel into a hot turbo seem safe
ahhhh...the one with the kick stand down...
It's a draw through system, mostly used on VW motors for years....old tech with less plumbing....
They all are!
I wonder what they have done to the crankshaft on that Nimbus, it was always its acilles heel, having only 2 bearings. As I recall it, all above 27 hp broke the shaft. But man, did it sound great!
Hot damn that twin turbo boxer. Holy shit. I want ten of those.
1st clip in and off to a great start.
The CBX rocks,love it!
Desastre la arruino
None of them sound like they are running right.with few exception as the black Goldwing
Very nice !
Salt flats that's where it's at.
....the rest are still dialing in😄
That would make valve adjustments easy.
Thanks so cool mega awesome great bike iliket old bike a have karakter nice day thomy
Bike probably rocks !FAST
Intro super bro
That Harley''s alarm is enough to send people running for their bomb shelters
In that last run, on the salt, is that wheel spin or clutch slip that we hear?
Definitely the clutch or maybe is a cvt
clutch
pop , snort , kick , kick ,pow, snort , blow , pop kick , hell man
I've never heard of Nimbus. That exhaust was beautiful but not really practical. I'd reroute that asap for both show and most importantly go!/safety/function.
The shovel at Bonneville gave me wood.
The dude on the gl1100 was shifting before the turbo could even spool up!
So now that Harley does 70MPH instead of 50MPH? Just joking.
Yup! Actually, one of my Harley-Davidson's will do nicely north of 100mph. Not bad for a "Touring" bike. My Buell (Special Built Sportster engine powered - See Eric Buell if you do not know about them) was a blast to ride. It would leave riders of non-American made sport bikes scratching their head by the next stop.
what ever you know 95% of the Harleys sold since 1955 are still on the road the other 5% made it home
because they're not driven...
Wonky Lommiter sadly enough it's true I've owned them slow as fuck and always had a problem, definitely the last engine on this planet that should have a turbo
Wonky Lommiter backfires alot through the carb
The bike with 4 side pipes would barbecue your leg.
And is supercharged not turbo...
That old triumph back end 4:08 reminds me of an old weslake speedway bike.
Lol you could only ride that Harley for about 45 seconds untill it got so hot you could use the forward controls
Why is that?
Don Berry turbos get very very hot ....... duh
Turbo and supercharger - completely different things
why does that bmw sound so nice
None of them sound like they are running right. Just junky waste of hard cash.
Robert Beck go change the CDI on your tao tao so you can go pop wheelies in your cul-de-sac.and thats probably giving you more credit than you deserve.
They probably run super rich, so that they don't lean out and explode when the boost comes on.
Whahaha there's always one ..
I turbo my kz 1000's and they sound good! Most of these are way out of tune.
Correct
Older Moto Guzzi V twin is a true 2 valve pushrod Hemi head engine. Dreaming of my 1976 1000cc as a blown dragbike on nitro.
Anybody else noticed at 1:38. That he forgot to put the kickstand up🤔🤔
0:17 what is this for a engine???
1:00 is that mcminnville Oregon?
Muito louco !!
Title "TURBO old motorcycles" first clip no turbo...
Supercharged - under the seat aft of no 4 cylinder on a belt drive.
Turbo actually made the Harley start easier.
The Harley was the only thing tuned properly
don't you think it would have been better to call these bikes boosted instead of Turbo over half of them had superchargers on them
Old motorcycles powered by Turbocharger or Supercharger- Compressor. - Compilation with original sound. That's how the vid is described.
The correct title would have been 'supercharged bikes' - either by turbo or by compressor
Love the "board trackers" tho!!! Kudos yo!!!!!😎
ghost rider with 1100gsxr turbo. 400hp.and 300 kph on rear wheel in 90.s
Would like to know more on the turbo installation !
Any, or how much turbo lag ?
How noticable if any ?
You don't want to learn anything from these guys. Literally everything in this video ran like total crap.
Rust Belt Auto

Enough people have done it to Hayabusa's to make it right.
Seriously what in the absolute shit fuck! Is that god forsaken noise is that before you kick started that "THANG"?
Not one of those machines was capable of idling. The Leadwing was close, but it seemed like it was flailing.
That Norton didn't look remotely dangerous to your left foot. Cough, sarcasm.
Honda six might melt his socks off
