@George Gil more than likely sonewhere near the G zone in Bogota or zona rosa (T zone) or around Chapinero. These are more upscale areas, better/safer than the main historic center.

I have been living in Cali, Colombia for 10 years and I love Colombia. Bogota is a bit cold for me but I can see the attraction for a higher class of life. Cali has much more reasonable prices but it is a lower strata city. There are other great cities to purchase real estate also. As far as the home that you have purchased, I believe that it was a great choice. I see that you want to raise ceilings, and I agree even though Colombians are shorter than you are. I would take out all of the floors and replace them with the same ceramic tile, but different tile for the bathrooms. I would change all of the fixtures in the bathrooms especially the sinks and the toilets. Get rid of the arch, it is an older design. For the ceramic and the bath fixtures, find a Corona store. I am sure there is a giant show room type store in Bogota. You will find great ceramic tile and great fixtures. Grival is a bath fixture that is also a great brand. Be very careful who you hire. There are some excellent contractors in Colombia, but there are some shady ones too. In Colombia, things are less regulated so there are a lot of un-qualified contractors. The reason the ceiling is lower in the kitchen and bathrooms is because they have the plumbing for the corresponding wet areas for the apartment upstairs in them, unlikely you can raise them unfortunately. Reminds me of my old apartment in Alto de Pineheiros, Sao Paulo, Brazil. It had the arch too, plus some wonderful glossy tile inserts embedded within the walls. Loved that place. Keep the arch, as long as you don't end up hitting your head on its lower extremities. Seems like a decent place for a great price. Please do an update when you've finished with the renovations.
I would love to see this apartment post-renovation. I do not like the low ceilings or the kitchen either. Agree that the bathrooms need work. Glad this is in a neighborhood you like.
DEFINITELY keep the arch! I used to stay regularly in Bogota because my gf lived there, but we ultimately ended up renting a great apartment in Medellin / El Poblado area. Have a lot of great memories in Colombia 🤟
Turn the little bath in to a laundry. Install a lower cabinet where the storage closet is with a countertop for folding, and a clothes bar above for hanging clothes to dry. I’d also recommend building an ultra secure closet with a strong lock for storing items while you’re gone. Include an electric outlet inside so you can house the equipment for a small wireless security cam/motion sensor so you can keep an eye on the property while you’re gone. Also, having a wireless all-in-one printer/scanner/copier on premises can’t be beat.
I liked the expression of man cave 😆 I think this apartment is a bargain because it has a very bad design in a very good neighborhood more than the reason of politics in Colombia. I felt suffocated just from seeing your head touches the ceiling. So may I suggest something crazy. You buy the apartment right above or below yours, then cut your ceiling in some rooms especially those you spend most of time in. You will get more of the outside sun, more of room and more ceiling, and moreover, if you decided to rent it later, I think you will have the right target customers for the right place.
In rural Japan, I can buy a fixer upper for about $24k, or a movin ready property for 100k. And the food is great, crime is nonexistent, and a stable culture and economy.
80's apartment? You're right indeed. The kitchen is the giveaway, still in the 80's. I see you very excited about the property, congratulations! I really like your plans in decorating the apartment with Colombian art. Like the view of green from the livingroom window!
For that price you could get a 91SQM brand new condo in a stunning area of Poblado in Medellin (Avenida Las Palmas) with 2 balconies, much higher floor with better views, pools, 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, three air con units, and zero need to renovate. Plus the MDE condos have stunning views and no traffic noise (at least the ones I've shown interest in). The only thing that appeals to me about the apartment shown in Bogota is the rents if those have been verified as legitimate with tax records from the previous owner. Also, as everyone knows, most condo units in Colombia are not well maintained (common grounds / exterior) so buying something newer is generally advised.
I've been very interested in Colombia for a long time due to cost of living, I originally became interested in the country and learning the language as a safety net if for whatever reason I could not afford to live in Australia anymore. But now I'm seeing it as great investment potential, especially when Venezuela recovers from its crisis and the petro wealth spreads through all of Latin America, especially its neighbouring Colombia will be lifted first. Yes, it will be a huge opportunity for business as the country needs everything to be done again so money in hand I would invest in Venezuela after some sort of financial security is in place but living in Venezuela? I’m sorry but no. Some social issues will stick around for a couple decades. Debora is right on point, congratulations for knowing my country so well, I should know more about Brazil as appreciation. Having said all this, Venezuela does have some entrepreneurs going on but it is smaller and do not represent a trend that you can rely on. A few success stories in Caracas do not take the country to the next level.
Assuming he purchased this in mid 2019, the colombian peso has now further devalued by about 20%+ by 2022. Do the figures still stack up (genuine question)? have house prices in bogota risen by (20% to counter devaluation + whatever the US real estate appreciation percentage is)?
Nice seeing the detail of the property. Love Colombia and especially Bogota, maybe even something in Gautape near Medellin - stunning views and great exotic neighborhoods.
Thank you for sharing your new investment in Bogota. Really appreciate your outlook and your wordly plan. I can imagine once you complete the furnishing of the home it will look absolutely amazing! Hope to working with you one day.
I love Bogota. I just left Bogota on Friday, it was my 2nd visit to Colombia and both times I stayed in Bogota. I believe in the next 5 years, Colombia will be the #1 vacation hot spots in the world.
I love Colombia, looking to live there part time soon. I prefer Medellin over Bogota. Regarding the property it's ok I just don't like the numbers on that house. $160k purchase plus more for the renovations you mentioned you're only getting $1300/month. Also nearby similar properties renting for much less. With those numbers and variable currency I'd rather park my money in US real estate, collect in dollars and have much more liquidity when it comes to refinance/HELOC options. Thanks for sharing and do what you want to do, just offering my opinion. I invest in USA, just bought in Italy, and looking at a South America play but the numbers just don't make sense to me. Keep it up, learning alot!
a border for the archway done in brick veneer or wood matching color of closets .Could be rented to a diplomat who would have a maid or nanny so the small separate living quarters could be used. Reset lighting above the kitchen closets .overall choice property
Not only keep the arch, accentuate it by adding contemporary medditteranian tile. Like others have said, expand the kitchen into the maids quarters and revamp that bathroom into your storage. Cool project.
Love the view! The archway adds character. Closets are a nice touch. Those wonderful large windows provide lots of light. Recessed lighting a great idea. If you paint the walls and ceilings the same colour, the low ceiling height won't be so obvious.
Yeah come down people, it isn't as bad as it sounds. Bogotá is as big as London (and in many neighborhoods of Bogotá you wouldn't believe you're not in London, don't trust me? Google "Quinta Camacho") is 24hs, super diverse and the gourmet scene is first class. You'll be impressed.
Juan Fernando Davila ...if you would have told me this 10 years ago I would have laugh at you I just google some pictures And I’m very impressed and the sad thing is I’m Colombian myself.
Double ceiling cornices, rip out the lights and use green energy downlighters with dimmers, change the shower head to rainflow, will suit the forest across the way. Increase the size of the glass windows to let more sun in. Paint the walls beige will compliment your cupboards, keep the arch. Upgrade the back splash to the kitchen and change to a shadow ceiling...

No, No, No. Andrew on the kitchen remodel. I saw it completely different on the extra servants quarters build in beside the kitchen nook a small laundry room open up the wall separating the kitchen and the servant's area with a kitchen island / bar with stools so your able to cook and visit with guest. add a walk in pantry next to the small laundry room. This would work much better in the scheme of things, and help to accentuate everything in this area.
I am very interested in real estate in Colombia. The apartment is quite nice. I would knock out the wall between the kitchen and the servant's quarters and have a nice full size kitchen. I'm not crazy about the low ceilings, but the views are amazing. Great purchase.
I love Bogota! Be there! I like the home a little narrow for tall guys and wide guys! I would rip all the floors out the house including ceilings. Give the house a better flow. Brighten the rooms which will make it look bigger! Don’t clutter the house, Colombian art in living room. Replace all window because Bogota gets cold. Gut the bathrooms.Remove the door to the master bedroom and make the opening wider without exposing the toilet. Make the kitchen all white with granite and subway tiles for backsplash and upgrade the appliances.
I do like Colombia- first was there over 20 years ago. You would love what $160k can get you in the provinces in the Philippines. Bohol is our little Eden, with white sand beaches and warm blue water just minutes from our front door.
13:14 -- "Keep that sweater game strong"-- AH. Nearly spit out my apple cider vinegar clean water mixture right there. I would keep the arch, it likely plays well with the history and architecture of the area -- like other things you pointed out. Try to blend the old with the new, it is rewarding. Congrats on the purchase Andrew.
I get altitude sickness EVERY TIME I'm in Bogota. It's like constant dizziness, as if I were drunk, and a mild headache that goes away with aspirin (the headache goes away...NOT the dizziness). I get it within minutes of landing there and does not go away until I fly or drive to an area with normal altitude levels. I live at sea level in the Dominican Republic, and prior to that I lived in Miami, FL, another sea level city.
Like to watch your views on the investment climate worldwide but this apartment in Bogota I would not come up with. Low ceilings are to claustrophobic. Apartments with low ceilings were made for the poor and local people and do not really suit the current extended homo sapiens version vet by Mc Donalds steroids.. Ceilings must be at somewhere around 2.8m at least. But for sure it will eventually bring profit.
Nice place. I would suggest, knock out part of the servant's quarter behind the kitchen, extend the kitchen if possible, or use that room for pantry. Enjoy your new home.
Smash out the circular arch, that was designed for short people. That is a nice view, though. The big windows are key for natural light. Something I love about Colombia is that the big cities have lots of green spaces.
Oh OK, I didn't know it was that high🤔, interesting climate then, temps must be pretty even then, you could get away with a wood fire 🔥in the tropics then
Great potential! Keep the arch, completely gut the kitchen and back maid area for new kitchen with storage. Master bath need complete overhaul. Keep the wood and add local accent and color. TV in the bedroom? You are a newly wed! You will need a TV in about 10 years......
You need an inner steel door imbedded into the wall with big bolts And dead bolt locks. Redoing electrical there is difficult & often on exterior wall surface. You will need a water heater or one that hangs from the wall. You can easily drop 50 to 100k into that place for renovations. Colombia budgets their $ well but has huge swings when "black" $ leaves the market so you have to be careful w two things 1)security 2) resale
I'm not rich but I still enjoy watching your videos...I could afford this condo and would keep the arch just because it's unique. Love the forest view.
The windows don't need additional curtains... the curtains are the beautiful background trees. Quite frankly, I would take those office windows from the floor to the ceiling.
Love Andrew but $100K for this little box? People are insane.. the entire building should be $100K. The USD has been devalued over 100 times its value, it is just sad
We visited Bogotá a few months ago and what amazed me was the brand new airport and it seemed as if everyone (cab drivers, shop attendants, etc) attended a customer service course. We loved it very much. The scary thing with South American countries is that things can change overnight. One day you have 5 houses in Venezuela and suddenly you have jack shit! And then it might take a lifetime for things to turn around...
Without a question that maids quarters has to go and the kitchen need to be opened up to the living/dining room. You want storage, put that on the "must have" list for the Architect to design. Open concept for smaller properties is always more enjoyable. Good for resale too. Many people want that larger master like you do so they take the wall out of the bedroom next to yours. After doing that you could have a descent master bath designed. When you sell, just put the wall back up and voila, you have a 3 bedroom again. Lots of people do this. You and Mrs. H. will enjoy it much more once you put your stamp on it. I do like the arch, but not if it hinders the kitchen being opened up to the living/dining room.
I would paint the closets cherry wood colours. The passage door frames and doors can be dark wood too. Arch can be done out in dark wood or cherry wood to match the frames of the rest of the rooms. It would match the arch to the rest of the apartment.
You can tell Andrew left the US for good by hearing him speak in meters.

Having said all this, Venezuela does have some entrepreneurs going on but it is smaller and do not represent a trend that you can rely on. A few success stories in Caracas do not take the country to the next level.
Debora Leggerini yep you can’t fix socialism
100% keep the arch unless you're doing a very extensive reno.
I love this style of video! You should do a tour of your Montenegro home
This was the gem that stood out from the 200 available?
The options must have been extremely limited.
I believe the circular arch should be left untouched until a new tenant has an issue with it.
Love Colombia and especially Bogota, maybe even something in Gautape near Medellin - stunning views and great exotic neighborhoods.
coming from HK, this apartment is amazing for the price!! I can't even get a car park space for this price in HK!! >_
Normal People: Here’s my bedroom. This is where the magic happens.
Andrew: here’s my office. This is where the magic happens.
Thank you for sharing your new investment in Bogota. Really appreciate your outlook and your wordly plan. I can imagine once you complete the furnishing of the home it will look absolutely amazing! Hope to working with you one day.
Nice words, thanks!
I can tell by your breathing as you talk, that you are feeling the altitude. Nice property find! Keep the arch.
Visited Bogota as a kid when my family lived in Venezuela. Beautiful place.
I’m glad you like my country!
I'd love to see it fixed up! How does it look after renovations? 😉😅
I love Bogota. I just left Bogota on Friday, it was my 2nd visit to Colombia and both times I stayed in Bogota. I believe in the next 5 years, Colombia will be the #1 vacation hot spots in the world.
Nice suit man, really, great taste dude.
Definitely keep the arch. It adds a lot of character.
This is a great video. Thank you.
Widening the kitchen into the servant room and taking out the arch in the doorway. Also go with a lighter wooden floor
his passion for architecture, fashion and aesthetics is obvious in his speech
In Bogota at the moment. Cool timing. Keep the arch for sure!
Not only keep the arch, accentuate it by adding contemporary medditteranian tile. Like others have said, expand the kitchen into the maids quarters and revamp that bathroom into your storage. Cool project.
Hey Andrew how about an update on this after the sprucing up. Very interested Colombia and the idea of emeralds and Gold as decor. Thanks.
@@edercortes1960 Googleate "La merced Bogotá"
Double ceiling cornices, rip out the lights and use green energy downlighters with dimmers, change the shower head to rainflow, will suit the forest across the way. Increase the size of the glass windows to let more sun in. Paint the walls beige will compliment your cupboards, keep the arch. Upgrade the back splash to the kitchen and change to a shadow ceiling...
Keep the archway. The master bedroom door will be hitting the TV where you want to put it.
When was your book last updated?
3 years later, is there a how it looks now video? @nomad capitalist?
Either your really tall??, or the ceilings and doorways are very short??

Hi Andrew, let's hang out while you are here in Bogota, big fan of your stuff
I am very interested in real estate in Colombia. The apartment is quite nice. I would knock out the wall between the kitchen and the servant's quarters and have a nice full size kitchen. I'm not crazy about the low ceilings, but the views are amazing. Great purchase.
Definitely interested in moving to Colombia or Brazil in future, great video Andrew thank you very much.
Keep the arch!
If you remove the arch. The place is going to look smaller.
I love the curved Archway you should keep it.
Maybe repeat the arch through all the doorways since they are too low anyways. May need to put in a transom or arched doors.
Really cool place, my kind of project too. I like to make it my own, and I like your angle at keeping it in its original style. Enjoy, take care.
Nice, Andrew, very nice -- the way you went about it, the price you paid, the location, and the condo. Well done!
Yes to training on Colombian real estate. Love the country.
Keep the arch…has character
Andrew: "Keep that sweater game strong" loooool😅 On point. 13:12
Isn't it a bit humid and hot for sweaters there
@@hamishfullerton7309 Bogota is 2630 meters above sea level, for that reason temperatures fluctuates around the 15°C
Oh OK, I didn't know it was that high🤔, interesting climate then, temps must be pretty even then, you could get away with a wood fire 🔥in the tropics then
@@hamishfullerton7309 hot? Not in Bogota
@@hamishfullerton7309 Columbia can get quite chilly during winter season.
I would keep the arch, keep the mismatched floors, and light fixtures. Its part of the charm of the property...
“ I do not know why you do not have a full length mirror”😂😂😂That was priceless.
Great potential! Keep the arch, completely gut the kitchen and back maid area for new kitchen with storage. Master bath need complete overhaul. Keep the wood and add local accent and color. TV in the bedroom? You are a newly wed! You will need a TV in about 10 years......
I have an arch in one of my houses. I'm leaving that, but taking the one in the kitchen out to modernize the look.
Andrew. Never put a TV in the bedroom. Very bad for sleep hygiene, health and productivity.
OMG the servant room, cant imagine anyone staying there inside. I'd suffocate.
Same, especially with the glass window you get so the rich owners can laugh at you for your shoebox of a room. 😂
You need an inner steel door imbedded into the wall with big bolts
And dead bolt locks.
Nice video
Pls do a new video about investment in Colombia and buying clombian citizenship because rules changed. Thanks
I'm not rich but I still enjoy watching your videos...I could afford this condo and would keep the arch just because it's unique. Love the forest view.
Thanks!
Arch gives the house a bit of contrast.
The windows don't need additional curtains... the curtains are the beautiful background trees. Quite frankly, I would take those office windows from the floor to the ceiling.
More videos on Columbia I keep hearing good things
ColOmbia :)
I love your enthusiasm, and appreciation of quality in the details
The apartment makes you look very tall Andrew
Are you near Carrera 7?
Love Andrew but $100K for this little box? People are insane.. the entire building should be $100K. The USD has been devalued over 100 times its value, it is just sad
By adopting metric, I feel you truly aren’t American anymore 🤣
Leave windows alone just do custom treatments. Paint the walls putty grey with white Millwood enjoy what a great find..
It's the same with many African countries. Angola was amazing prior to 1975. Today, not so much unless you're related to the Dos Santos family.
Colombia is not Venezuela
You have beautiful views through the widows. You can make these windows much bigger and open them from the to all the way to the bottom.
Keep the circular arch.
I feel claustrophobic in there
Yeah and it's empty, imagine how you will feel once it's furnished.
I would paint the closets cherry wood colours. The passage door frames and doors can be dark wood too. Arch can be done out in dark wood or cherry wood to match the frames of the rest of the rooms. It would match the arch to the rest of the apartment.
1.93 ohlala
Guess the apartment is near road, so will it be nosy at night ?
