Still boggles my mind that we live in a society where a person whose main skill in life is throwing balls through hoops, to the delight of many spectators, can make more money in a year than 100 people who grow food and feed thousands of people each year can make...in a lifetime.

On the other hand, I cannot imagine a world where I work all day and don't have the option of going to a sports arena to throw back a few and watch the local team try to win whatever sport they are playing. I have several sons and sports are a major part of our lives. I think what your argument is about is the fact that worldwide, people put their money in entertainment over education. Sports, music, movies.... we put our money in what we want.

@@boysrus61 Basically, yes... You're restating what I said about priorities in modern society. I've got nothing against people having fun, being entertained and playing or watching sports (especially at the community level). Up until relatively recently (until the 1970s, 1980s) the (mis)allocation of resources wasn't so extreme. Popular athletes could make a decent living commensurate with what they were contributing. With the advent of televised sporting events (so remote from actual communities, while also displacing interest in sports at the local level), advertising revenue, promotional marketing tie-ins and so on, the hundreds of millions of dollars that go to a few people whose main skill involves playing around with balls just suggests that something off kilter and unsustainable in terms of disordered priorities is going on. I'm all for freedom. I'm just making an observation about modern priorities. The term "bread and circuses" comes to mind, suggesting that maybe there's more to what's going on than people simply enjoying sports...and that term also indicates that it's not exactly a new thing, but probably a cyclical thing (history doesn't repeat itself exactly, but it rhymes, as the saying goes).

@@boysrus61people can live without sports. It's a luxury really. Good to know your family has afforded that luxury. Some families have to work relentlessly just to feed and house their children.

1:04:48 😂 “Un-founded.” Ballard is such a mess you either have to laugh or cry. Thank you RFM for some much needed levity.

Even if these tiny gold plates were authentic, they come nowhere near what would be necessary to produce hundreds of pages of English text, as needed by Joseph's plates. Tiny inscriptions on a few plates do not a book make.

The basketball story is a big nothing burger. So they are attracted to each other, they like each other. So what? His family can either support him and be kind or he's going to avoid them the rest of his life. End of story. Not a big deal otherwise. 🙄

That's what I was saying on Mormonish, I literally don't understand what's news worthy about it. Maybe it'll be a big story, if it develops, but rn? No
