Thank you! I adopted a biracial son and when I ask about hair, I'm not getting answers, just a whole lot of attitude. I decided to do some research and this is exactly what I wanted looking for.
April, I'm Biracial and I have long curly hair. Parents with Biracial children need to realize that Biracial hair IS NOT the same as Black (African) hair. You should not be going on Black RUclips pages asking Black people how to deal with your biracial son's hair. Rather, you should be directly asking Biracial people what works with their hair. Biracial hair has unique qualities because it's a combination of the various aspects of European and African hair. Products and techniques that are made specifically for straight European Hair or for kinky/coily Black African hair are not the best for curly Biracial hair. Personally, I have found that products and techniques that are formulated for curly European hair work best on Biracial hair UNLESS the Biracial hair is excessively kinky/coily. The most important thing to know is that curly biracial hair needs moisture! You should only use shampoo on Biracial hair once a week as shampoo dries out and damages curly hair. However, every single day you should apply a really good salon quality conditioner to Biracial hair. In the bath/shower while the hair is wet, cover it with a lot of conditioner and then comb out all the tangles with a wide toothed comb. After that, rinse out the conditioner and then pat it dry with a towel, trying your best not to disrupt the natural curl pattern. Then to add weight which will prevent frizz and fly-aways , apply a little bit more conditioner to the hair as a "Leave in" conditioner and let it air dry. I have found that Tressume "Flawless Curls" and Tressume "Rich Moisture" conditioner work amazingly in my long, curly Biracial hair. If you want more info on what to do with your son's hair DM me and I will tell you everything I know about maintaining Biracial hair. I really wish my White mom or my Black dad knew how to deal with my Biraical hair when I was growing up. I spent my whole childhood with a tangled, matted, greasy mess on my head because my white mom tied to treat my hair as if it European hair and my black dad tried to treat it as if it was African hair. Neither worked! I didn't figure out how to manage my hair effectively until I was in college.
