George, I have been running the HED Jet 5 Black wheels coming up on 4 years now. I absolutely love that wheelset. Still true as when they came out of the box, bearings are great shape, and that CNC machined grooves on the brake track makes for what I think are the best rim brake wheels out there! Good luck this weekend, your bike looks fantastic! Oh I also run the Bolt V1, it is a great computer!

Thank You Tower! I know some folks have had questions about the durability of the turbine braking technology, but I have put them at ease telling them I’ve had these wheels for years in many different depths and break truck has lasted without any discoloration.

That being said, better to go through brake pads, that will save you wear and tear on the rims. Although SwissStop are a bit on the pricey side. The Kool Stop (black) are pretty economical, they are my go to pads. Hope this helps, take care!

George, enough already about your disdain for disc brakes! Holy crap, your doing a great job alienating riders (viewer’s) who love, enjoy and benefit from them. In this video you spared us all of the reason you hate them. Which you’ve made us aware of numerous times in the past. (Yes, we know, you’re super fast descender so who needs brakes, their too expense, too heavy, to much of a pain to maintain, blah, blah, blah!). But for me, I love speed also, especially the descents, but I love the spot on, dependability and ease in which I can apply and moderate the hydro power. Aside from with, I love tech. Disc brakes and Di2 are truly two advances that take the performance of the bike and myself to the next level. Aside from loving the performance aspects, it makes riding with Dupuytren’s and Raynaud’s syndrome so much less of an issue. (But George, you’re still young. Wait another ten years! :). In addition, unlike your beautiful 75 degree January days that you and Jesse are having to endure, up in the great Northwest the average temp between December, January and February is 42, and typically rains 60% of the week. Just two weeks ago we had 20 +/- degree days to a week or so. The only thing that cut my ride short was the damn ice. So, for me, in addition to the super performance, having discs, and Di2, is the difference between going out and getting in the miles versus staying home during the cold, wet and gray winters (and spring) of the NW.
As for maintenance, granted, a bit more time. But any true rider should enjoy maintaining their ride and as much as riding their bike(s). Sure, if a person can’t properly change standard rim pads, align correctly align,(toe) and cables, then they’re not going to be great at maintaining a disc set-up. However, anyone that can properly maintain a rim brake bike, can do a disc bike, yes, including oil flush without any problem. And for those who don’t like maintaining their bikes, then that’s what shops like yours are for. God knows, it’s a hell of a lot easier than faffing with tubeless tires!
One last note, I see that you replied to a follower above expressing your intention to try some 5000 S TR! Hmmm . . . I thought you were totally fed up and “done” with the bullshit of tubeless (for the road). No?
