You are such a good teacher. Even a new sewist can make these! I was overthinking a project bag, thinking I needed to add a removable divider for yarn balls. These are much better, and will work perfectly! My daughter has a knit fabric habit, I sew with cottons. These are perfect to use up scraps and keep our yarn neat in storage and when knitting or crocheting. A million thanks!
I own a yarn business and THANK YOU for showing off these amazing little yarn cozies! I was debating on knitting, but this opens up such a wide range of options and patterns... and MUCH quicker :) I just ordered my sewing machine on Amazon and it will be here tomorrow, thank you again!
Thx a lot, Vanessa!!! I was able to sew my first yarn cozy thanks to your super precise teaching!!!! It's so easy and it's going to be a surprise gift for a friend of mine!!!😁😁😁😘😘
Exactly what I need in my yarney life! I also sew a little so I'm about to make myself a bunch of these little beauty patooties! Thanks for sharing all I needed to know! 💗🙏🙏💗
Hi Vanessa! Thanks to your sewing machine videos I have just purchased a Juki DX7 through your link in an older video. I can't wait to start using it! Love your tutorials and patterns and have followed and supported you for years! Thanks again and be safe
I really enjoyed listening to you and watching your tutorial. You’re very clear as is the filming which is so appreciated. Thank you so much for sharing this clever and useful how-to! I look forward to sewing up some of these. Fabric Store run first.
Thanks for this great idea, Vanessa. I knit and crochet a lot and use thread nets on my yarn cakes, but these yarn cozies will be much more economical as I can make quite a few with a yard of fabric.
Thank you! I am a knitter and had purchased a couple of knit remnants to sew cozies. But have had some difficulty figuring out a great way to make them your tutorial and as perfect and easy to follow. I was able to understand it and adjust slightly to whip them up on my serger.
what a brilliant idea, I have been using rubber bands, but this will be so much better and prettier. No more birds nest yarn at the end of the ball, thank you
Perfect tutorial! I’m finally learning how to use my sewing machine. This is perfect for beginners to make something that isn’t too hard but useful. I found some stretchy remnants on sale so for under $5 I have made 4 so far. Super handy for knitters and crocheters because the yarn cake stays wound in the project bags.
I just discovered this concept and purchased a great one from a wonderful maker, but I was thinking that I could easily whip some up myself, if only I knew how. Thanks!
I’ve been enjoying your videos for quite some time and I really want to thank you for all the energy and skill you love to share with us💕💕💕 Keep them coming!!!
Thank you @TheCraftyGemini! Your tutorial was so helpful! I am able to follow along even though I am sewing machine challenged (I can make mask though with no issues lol!) I appreciate the time and effort you took to impart your knowledge and skill to us! Question: Would you double the length for the longer skeins like the Red Heart Super Savers or I Love This Yarn type skeins?
This is such a great video! As a knitter and novice sewist, I can't wait to make these! Question, will the cotton Spandex shrink? What would the care instructions on these cozies be? Have a great day!
I got one as a gift and I have thrown it in with my knits when I was them. I use a no rinse detergent for my knits so I just let it soak for a few and then air dry. The one I was gifted I believe is cotton spandex and hasn’t shrunk this far (9 months).
Thank you! My daughter asked if she could have some stretchy material (I make clothes) for yarn cake sleeves. I had no idea! So I'm going to Mahe her v wife different sizes.
OMG!! Crochet alot of dish cloths. I could of used this.I usually have my yarn in a bag so it doesn't run across the floor. was going to make a yarn bowl out of clay.. this would be better, doesn't take up slot of room or have to worry about it getti g broke and easy to travel with. don't sew much with stretchy material, ribbing I know I have. with our fabric stores closed :( I'll try one with that. THANK YOU DO MUCH. also like the way you attached the one end of yarn to the wrapper so can pull from center. I always have a mess trying to find center of yarn. Any tips on finding center of yarn when not rewinding a skein? THANKS AGAIN.. :)
Thanks!! I use Color Street nail polish strips. Love them! It’s the only thing that lasts n my nails with everything I do on the farm. Here’s a link to where I order mine: www.colorstreet.com/StephanieJones
Beautifully. The cotton spandex ones shown are the same as Lycra and Spandex are the same fiber but spandex is the generic name whereas Lycra is trademarked.

This is a great idea!! Greetings from Germany!!
THANK YOU! so much need these
Excited because the store bought ones are really expensive!
Do you think this could be modified to work on a full skein? I absolutely love it!
I love this idea. And i think you can also use a sock.
I've used old leggings/panty hose 😂
You are amazing. Thank you
Awesome tutorial! Would you happen to have a recommend sizing for super bulky (Malabrigo Rasta) yarn cakes?

perfect
Thanks for the video. I made one yesterday, but I have one question & that is what setting on your iron did you use to press the yarn cozy?
If the fabric is cotton spandex I use the cotton setting. If it’s a poly spandex I set it a little lower.
Thanks Vanessa for the great tutorial! But can you give the size that the fabric should be cut to? Thanks!
Did you get a chance to watch the video? The info is there. 👍🏽
3:27 here is where she shows measurements. But, the video has a lot of helpful info. Well worth watching.
I love making cozies! If you have a serger, you can use that instead. I'm also a glutton amd like to hand stitch mine closed. 😂
Cool
Will this size yarn cozy work on the wider Lion Brand Mandala skein or should a larger cut of fabric be used? Thank you for the great tutorial.
that cake is too big for this size cozy. I would experiment with larger cuts for sure. You're welcome!
@@TheCraftyGemini Thank you for your help.
Can a yarn cozy be made for a skein of Caron Big Cake yarn?
What kind of sewing machine do you have?
Vary useful for your yarns.
In His Grace Lorisa
Great idea how to close the hole, so it doesn’t show on the right side.
Thank you!
What would be the dimensions for a skein vs a cake?
❤
Can you make a satin sleep bonnet
What size would u cut to make a mini yarn cozy?
I cant be the only one dying to know what polish you're wearing!?
Thanks!! I use Color Street nail polish strips. Love them! It’s the only thing that lasts n my nails with everything I do on the farm. Here’s a link to where I order mine: www.colorstreet.com/StephanieJones
How would cotton Lycra work?
Beautifully. The cotton spandex ones shown are the same as Lycra and Spandex are the same fiber but spandex is the generic name whereas Lycra is trademarked.
These are so cute but I just use socks. :p
I'd like to buy a yarn cozy from you but don't see them on your website. Please get back to me. Thanks!
You didn’t say if the first stitch was with or against the grain
