    a ton of red flags regarding these cool looking games: developed by a studio who has never done such a thing before; secrecy about gameplay mode; usually a developer in a country with little media coverage

    Soulslike ... soulslike ... soulslike ... why do they have to ruin every promising game with that tedious gameplay mechanic these days? I don't care to fight one single enemy for 10-20 minutes and repeat the fight over and over and over again until I succeed. I want to progress in a game, see new things, not waste time honing useless skills that impress no one.

      100% agree! And, the condescension and dictatorship of not allowing us to choose a less difficult level so that we could actually enjoy the game? Frankly, I think those studios deserve to fail. Life and work are hard, games are supposed to be fun escapism not grinding torture.

    • @Jigsaw407
      @Jigsaw407 6 месяцев назад +18

      @@duyestalia7851 That's what makes it so sad. They made bad or non-existing game balancing a feature (less work for devs, yay) that slowly takes over the whole genre of third person action adventures that used to be fun and ruins it for everyone who doesn't care for an unecessarily frustrating challenge. I play games to relax, not be stressed out more. I know, people will say "Just get gud!". But I don't want to invest time to "get gud". I just wanna have fun! What's so hard about implementing difficulty levels? Everyone who loves to be whipped hard by their games can still do it, and everyone else can just play. Where is the harm in that? Are people afraid that they can't prove that they beat the game on the hardest difficulty level?

      You don't need to take a huge dump on Souls games to say you prefer other types of games. It's a genre that deserves to exist as much as more "casual" games do. Most games people say will be "Souls like" never actually are, but that term sells, so they say it in marketing. Believe it or not, some people like challenge in their games. And when you decide to play a game, you will only ever hone the same skills as every other game you play, I'm sorry to tell you. 50 hrs playing Dark Souls is fundamentally no different than 50 hrs playing The Last of Us. It's ALL a "waste of time".

    If you only follow big news articles, then it would seem like Squadron 42 "disappeared," but if you are a part of the community, CIG actually gives regular updates and roadmaps. It's expected that a release date will be announced later this year. Also, people act like it's taken forever just to make the game when the reality is that they have built an entirely NEW game engine to make SQ42 and Star Citizen. One that I'm certain they will license out to other developers as an alternative to Unreal and Unity. Will the game be any good? We'll have to wait and see.

      not exactly, 'nihil' is closer to the concept of 'null' or 'void' and 'inane' is a french word that comes from 'inanis' which translates better as 'meaningless', so 'nihil inane' would be something like 'meaningless void', which is much more dramatic than just the antonym of 'something'.

    • @Pedone_Rosso
      @Pedone_Rosso 6 месяцев назад +4

      @@TheSportsCore
      "Inane" is just Latin, no need to go to the French neo-Latin version.
      Of course it means "the void", "emptiness", "inconsistency", "the incorporeal".
      "Nihil", if you want, can also be translated as "zero", "nothing", "the void".
      Both terms mean "nothing" broadly, depending on the context.
      One thing though: they're both nouns, and "inane" can also be an adverb.
      No adjective, so you cannot translate the way you did there with "meaningless void".
      It's more like "nothing nothing", or "emptiness nothing",
      or any other odd coupling of adjacently-meaning nouns of the same kind.
      FAR from trust inspiring, in any case.

    The game I am anticipating most since I learned about it in 2018 and saw the (very rough) 2017 demo is Squadron 42.
    And while it sure is also a bit because of the graphics (I am somebody who can really appreciate good graphics or good art-style), it is also because of how the game is (as far as I understand it) structured and how the gameplay works:
    - Good mix of gameplay with everything from Space-Combat, FPS-Combat, FPS Puzzles and Jump-and-Run, Social gameplay, cutscenes, investigation in both Space and FPS, ... If they get the pacing right the amount of gameplay-systems at play here alone will help hugely with it not feeling as repetitive
    - The Mission-Design is very interesting. The general idea is this: You have 27 Missions and between those you return to the Idris (capital ship) you are stationed on and can then interact in more social elements, until you get the next mission assigned which will be briefed to you in the briefing-room. This is a pretty unique setup I think (at least for a modern game) as so many games let you choose what to do next and while inside the actual mission SQ42 will also have multiple paths to success, the missions itself seem pretty set from the start. The one mission we saw parts of in the 2017 demo I thought also had quite a good flow with investigation, a bit of Space-Combat then more investigation, flying to a new location and then stealth and FPS-Combat (and after that presumably an escape sequence)
    - There is NO big RPG-Level up system. I do think those make sense for games BUT I also do want some games that simply don't have these stats you need to level up and at this point basically every game has at least a bit of that. In SQ42 you do have soft-leveling which means the more you do an action the better you get at it but that is simply done during gameplay and doesn't force you to constantly read in a menu what to level up next. From what I can gather even guns and other equipment doesn't necessarily need to be bought but can be "simply used" due to the fact that you are part of the Navy and therefore have access to all their Equipment. It might very well be that because of progression you don't have access to everything from the beginning (maybe the more successful missions you do the better the equipment gets you can borrow for your missions) but I don't have an inventory where I constantly need to keep my equipment organised until the space is all used up
    - I mean, the tech is also a huge factor, but not only the graphics, also the features that actually have an impact on the game and how missions play out: No loading-screens, being able to fly everywhere (even if during the missions you will probably be somewhat limited as you are part of a Navy-Mission) and what is still somewhat unproven as due to Server-Performance we can't test it in the alpha yet: The Social AI (from what CIG says it sounds absolutely amazing BUT that's what they say and while I am by no means somebody that thinks they are lying it is also just their opinion and I need to make my own)
    - The Setting. To be honest, the SC-Universe is (for me) the perfect blend between StarWars and StarTreck. Not as fantasy as StarWars but also not that dedicated to realism, giving us a bit more freedom for fun in Lore and Gameplay. Also, most people don't even realise HOW MASSIVE the lore of SC already is (I too only know probably less than 1% of it) and the events of SQ42 are already existent in the lore (yes, there are quite a few spoilers in lore at this very moment) and I am very interested how they leverage this entire universe they already build for environmental storytelling
    - Voice-Acting/Motion Capture: I always find this quite hard to judge from trailers but the 1.5h Vertical Slice from 2017 I thought was very well done for what they are going for. Of course, the actors are also fun but to be honest I mostly enjoy those because of how other people react when they see all the actors connected to this project (and how basically nobody even notices Mark Hamill constantly talking during the last Trailer until they show him front-on). What I find most interesting here are the new technics they are trying to use for making all this a lot more dynamic/realistic: Walk-and-Talk (which is still very rare in games as it is extremely difficult), Characters stopping a conversation even when you don't look at them and give them your attention in some instances, dynamic conversations in the environment (what I found most "impressive" was when a character was simply coughing as I have rarely ever heard something like that in a game when simply walking around, ...)
    ...
    There is even more but this comment is long enough already. Let's just say I unfortunately have high expectations and I really hope CIG can deliver a good, hopefully fantastic experience here.
    I am of course very much the person who doesn't think they are blatantly lying (as I think my comment already shows) so I do believe them when they say they are feature complete. That does however still mean there is still quite some work ahead of them, especially for such an ambitious game and they already said they are only giving us a release-date when they are certain they can hit it (shortly before going gold was said). I personally expect it in the first half of 2025 but that is as much a guess as anybody can do right now

      However, that being said, many games before DS had these mechanics, DS just made them more popular.

    Pearl Abyss came to mind when I read the title of the video because PA basically announced that they will be making 3 games at the same time which is pretty crazy.
    I personally would put DokeV on the list instead of Crimson Desert as some people said in the comments because Crimson Desert was originally planned to be an MMO but they changed it to single player which is much more believable considering the graphic details are insane to be an MMO
    However for DokeV there has been no recent update regarding the gameplay at all compared to Crimson Desert which already released a gameplay trailer last year
    The other game is called Plan 8.... I'm not surprise if they even forget about this one

I mean, it was definitely too good be to be true 20 years ago when some PS2 games tried to look like something that wouldn't be possible until the PS3, but it only makes the fake trailer stuff more bizarre when there's little to nothing stopping people from making a lot of these games technologically impressive looking.
