I have two cement hives trying them out. This winter western cape was wet and my bees left as water goes through lid or it was condensation. Opened up to moldy frames . So this year i will paint them and put steel lid on them. The bees do like them , badger proof , fire proof but very heavy and you cant manipulate bees.

Interesting that the water was able to permeate into the hive. I have not experienced this yet, but I have also not had the quantity of rain you experienced in the Cape this year.

Sacking, cut to size will make a good inner cover in this case.

Yeah Mark, They recommended something of that sort on their site. Gonna have to make a plan. Thanks for watching.

Thanks Hannes, that lid and Super are about 30 kg empty. It is just impractical to do hive maintenance on many hives.

I agree. Something I didn't mention in the video is at least with the wooden Langstroth, there is an abundance of spares, and everything is the same size. I have seen with these Bunka Hives that if you need a new lid or a super, they can be difficult to acquire at certain times.
