Wild Beehive in a Washing Machine

- This washing machine had been repurposed and was being used as a compost bin...until bees decided to move in and build a hive there! The homeowner had lifted the lid open a few days before and was stung, so I was called to give these sweet bees a new place to live.
This woman is amazing! If ppl treated each other the way she treated bees, can you imagine the world we'd live in!?
Y3
do people treat u badly, doesit make u sad :(((
I love listening her narrate her processes for rehoming the bees. She has such a calm, soft voice that it actually reduces my anxiety.
I’m a insomniac and it’s literally the only thin that can make me sleep ❤
Agree 100% so if her voice helps our anxiety can you imagine how it helps the bees?! ❤ thank you for alllll you do to help the bees. Honey bees are amazing, that's for sure.
Same! She should do ASMR
This young lady is amazing ! She is so professional. I love her explaining all her steps so interesting!
I’m 80…i did not need any gear… my scent was calm. You are doing very well. Love your work and education
Your comment reminded me of something my Grandma used to say. About bees and scent. She had a very interesting way of looking at it, very similar to what you said ✌️
I've watched many videos to learn about beekeeping, but this lady is the first person to make me think, "That's the kind of beekeeper I would like to be" instead of simply, "That's good information." I'd love to learn beekeeping just by going around with her and imitating what she does, how she does it. She's a natural with bees, and I'm not sure that can be learned (I was scared of insects as a child, thanks to my brothers teasing me by putting creepy crawlies on me). Maybe I can't be as naturally attuned to insects as she is, but I could learn to imitate her calm and respectful movements with bees. I feel calm just watching her videos - calm and even more eager to have a place to keep bees. Wonderful videos.
Relieved you didn't stop making videos! Your videos have helped me in my fear of bees.
Yeah keep goin'
Me too -- I'm surprising zen around bees now (though maybe not if one was indoors with me)
same!
Seeing that they are not mindlessly crazed stinging machines is very reassuring.
BOO
If possible, could you do a Bee Yard tour? I would love to see all the hives full of happy bees you’ve saved!!! 💛💛🐝
Same here. Do you collect Honey from your farm?
Please!!!!
I'd love that
@@ace1926 No she doesn't - She leaves it for the bees...
Thinking like a tourist!!!!
Forget the critics. You do a wonderful job to preserve a vital resource. Thank you.
You're doing a fantastic job at saving the bees!! I am a former bee keeper & I loved every minute of it!! With all the problems bees are having I am so happy you are helping them!! Keep up the good work!!
These bees hive were “creative” & reclaiming their genuine nature by informing & empathizing w the bees intentions by letting us know “they were not stinging, they were gentle bees” by actively listening & observing ☺️😊🫶
Young lady, you are an incredible person. Keep on being you. Dont let these window licking mouth breathers get you down. These type of people are the reason an "external use only" warning label has to be put on hemorrhoid medicine.
She not only saves the bees and looks totaly badass when she just casually does it without any protection, but she's also stylish while doing it.
which is ridiculously stupid. As a beekeeper, having your hair down is a terrible idea. As soon as a bee gets caught, it will panic and sting your head if close enough. Wearing dark clothing is also an initiation to get stung- bee suits are typically white for a reason. It looks like she can get away with it because there's a lot more she did behind the scenes before starting the camera, which probably includes a ton of smoke.
@@KamilOwnz I guarantee no one cares.
@@KamilOwnz also there was barely any smoke involved so stop.
@@therealkidhasgame9922 im a beekeeper lmao I have 4 double deep brood boxes + deep honey supers. I promise you, you have no idea what youre talking about nor what corners shes cutting to look hot for the camera
@@KamilOwnz if you think shes trying to look hot here, uh... Do you know how women think lol 🤣 she's doing a job. Don't overthink it
Love the fact that the homeowner was caring enough to call a beekeeper to save the bees
As opposed to what, taking a flamethrower to it? Lol. There’s no way a homeowner can deal with 50,000 bees, even if they didn’t care about saving them. (But like you, I’m glad they were saved)
@@HoyaSaxaSD THINK first before spouting...duh..pesticides use
@@DEBrown1971yes, think, Deb. No random homeowner is lifting that lid and sitting there while trying to spray 50,000 bees to death, while probably getting stung to death first. Didn’t you hear that the homeowner called this chica because he was stung as soon as he lifted the lid?
Deb, Deb, anyone home??
@@HoyaSaxaSD duh...smoking them first to calm them down to stupor and then spray
As a beekeeper who has done over 100 bee removals I want to say that this is an exceptional removable and a first class lesson. Your thorough, clear explanations and meticulous work is to be respected immensely. And your gentle demeanor is an inspiration. I’m sure the bees feel your good will for them.
We all do things differently and if I left the bees as you did, I’d return after sundown so as to get all the bees into the hive and leave none behind. I would love to do that on all my removals. But most often, we don’t have that luxury and must leave when we are done removing the bulk of the bees and all the hive products. I use a bee vacuum to help with that.
I’m excited to take a look at your other videos!
@@dirtydragon9
Spray Bee Quick into the void left from the removal. Stuff some insulation into it. Put all the brood AND bees you removed, in a hive setup close to the original bee entrance. All the returning bees will come back to this setup. Brood will attract them and make them stay. (The only home they now know) You return after nightfall when everyone is home, seal the hive for transport and take them home.
I’ve mentioned this to clients sometimes, that a return trip would add to their cost.
I’m new to this do y’all not get stung?
I am amazed they don't sting when you start pulling apart the hive.
@@methos1592 every hive is different, but a lot of times with honey bees theyre pretty docile. As long as they dont think youll hurt them they just kinda let you hang out around them with no issue. Wasps are a whole different issue though
Her practices are questionable. Hair not tied properly back. Wearing dark clothes. No proper safeguards.
My Granddad was a bee keeper. He rescued hives quite frequently, using almost the same methods you use. The only big difference was that he smoked a pipe. I didn’t know that some bee keepers wore “suits” until I was in my late teens. Glad to see the tradition is still alive. Enjoy your channel. Thanks for sharing.
You Erika are exceptional. I admire you for your passion and compassion x❤
You're amazing. Clearly the bees love you and they sense your energy and that you're helping them. No protection? No need. No fear. No stings.
Makes sense to me.
Thanks for doing what you do! It's fantastic. Love your ASMR style vids. Very peaceful and informative.
I love your gentle, do-no-harm approach to the bees and your genuine concern for their welfare. Please up the good work.
This woman and these bees are just so remarkable. What a very cool and elegant interface with nature.
Love this girl taking care of this precious species
Thank you for all you do. God has given you a gift. You are blessed. ❤️

I'm sorry for some of the nasty things I've seen on social media and RUclips lately complaining about your methodology. Although I'd recommend a disclaimer advising folks to wear a veil for eye protection, I've seen nobody attack JPBeeman or some of the male cut out gurus for not wearing a veil. I feel like you're being singled out and I really enjoy the peaceful filming nature of your cut outs.
definitely seems rooted in misogyny, like a woman can't possibly do something without a man doing the work behind the scenes, or someone can't be pretty/blonde and also work with bees. Awful to read, and to see so many people believing the lies and calling her a fake. :(
I had seen a comment on one of her older videos saying "I know a man is doing the hard work for you" and I was like wtf... really sad to hear that she's been getting a lot of that rather than just that one isolated comment. It's obvious she knows what she's doing, I don't know why people have to be such jerks.
@@castorj.b.1257 I usually disregard arguments about misogyny, but this really does seem to be the case here. Everyone that complains about her insists that she's just a pretty face to generate views and that a man does all the real work. Rage inducing tbh.
@@castorj.b.1257 Just envy. Women are sometimes their own worst enemies. There is a thing of competition, and when some other woman looks "better" than them, they want to attach and mimic, but with the bees is not that simple, so they want to "put her down"..... So not misogyny, just plain envy.
The point those people were making is that she should be wearing a veil bacause of her long hair as bees can get stuck into it, panic, and sting. Which a male beekeeper might not have issue with.
Your methodology is the very best of all of the beekeepers I've seen on YT. I simply cannot conceive anyone complaining about the calm, gentle way you treat the bees. Please continue to film your passion of saving the bees and sharing with us as often as you can.
Ms. Thompson, THANK YOU ❤️

You should make a video of dealing with a more aggressive hive. It would be nice to see the other tactics/strategies you use in these cases.
Look back through her posted videos, I think she has had to ware a suit in a few.
Her calm demeanor and love of the bees keep them calm.
Or get stung 😆 🤣
@@alicemcpherson7961 I don’t get it though…she’s clearly invading and dismantling their home. How do they not see that a threat?
@@servantofobedience9546 Bees release an alarm pheromone when threatened, but the smoke disrupts their ability to communicate through those pheromones. While she is a lovely woman who is calm and gentle, some of the comments on this channel falsely misinterpet whats happening. She is not a disney princess however she is a professional with experience and intelligence.
I love watching and listening, happy endings always
Mad respect for the owner who probably got stung like hell but was still concerned about the safety and wellbeing of the bees.
I have been working with bees for some time now...and there is no way that a "model" can do what she is doing by some else telling her what to do. Every beekeeper has it's own stile of work and she is no expection. I like the way she explains how she is doing things.
I mean yeah she's a little sus with dark clothes, but I think because her hair is of a light color she's fine with the bees. But I definitely see that this is her hard work and not just acting. No ordinary person is calm enough to interact with bees like this. And I'm sure she only shows the gentle hives to clear the many misconceptions and misunderstanding about bees: not all bees r assholes like the waps xD

I've always been afraid of 🐝 bees until I started watching your videos. Thank you SO MUCH for educating me!! I Love learning about the different jobs they have and how they all work in harmony for the betterment of the hive! If humans acted more like 🐝 bees, we wouldn't be so confused and destructive. Anyway, thank you for All you do!
I used to be too (Though legitimately - when you're 7 years old and your stepfather chops into a beehive in a tree trunk he didn't know was there and you get stung a millimeter away from your eye, you get nervous). But now that I think about it, I don't know if it was bees, wasps or what. But after moving down south, and having a neighbor who kept bees, I got more used to them. Then after watching so many beehives/honey videos, the fear slowly subsided. We keep a safe distance from eachother, unless one of them accidentally drops into the pool, then I fish them out to let them live. I've not been stung once in 15 years. (the horseflies that frequent my parents' backyard when I visit however need to go die)
@@aalikane6219 I love your comment. :)

Just binge watched all your videos.

I am new to honey bees. I had absolutely no idea, that bees could be worked in this way. You went about this process in such a calm and loving way… this has beed the best introduction to moving/relocating bees that I could have possibly gotten. THANK YOU 🙏
Your videos help the humans and you help the bees. I hope to never run out of videos to watch. It is therapeutic. I can never wait for you to say and it was another great day of helping the bees. It sounds like petting a kitten feels.
You are so very compassionate with the bees. To keep the hive in the same orientation is so thoughtful. You are Amazing! I have learned so much from you. Thank you so much for your videos and information love ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I live in Florida when I first moved here found somone had put bee boxes on some property used to go at so down to watch the bees coming home quite fascinating !
What a lovely human beeing you are! Thank you for being a friend to the bees and for teach us as well...
Bee good🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝🐝
Erika,
You have a unique gift and soft approach saving these bees. What you do is remarkable. 🧐🌲👍
She narrates with the same calm energy she exudes when working with the bees. Some colonies are just chill and when you're deliberate and calm like she was, you can work without the bees getting testy.
FWIW, I was out mowing and decided to pop open my split. I saw that wax moths had infested it (it was a temporary box, small colony and not very well ventilated). I set about mitigating the problem, squashing and sweeping out caterpillars and excising/removing affected frames. I replaced the removed frames with new ones. The point? I didn't have time to fire up my smoker or get on any gear. They let me work without bothering me even though it was a disruptive, even violent event for them.
She knows what she's doing and as she said, she would have geared up had she needed to.
