As a passionate gardener, i found the success of my food plants depended on my providing flowers to keep the bees drawn to my garden. I eventually ended up with a seasonal rotation of perennials so one started as another finished. This rotation gave incentive for bees to keep coming all summer long well into fall. Thank you for saving and sharing the value of everything they bring to us. I love watching you hand scoop them up. You are soft, no sudden movement, and calm. They trust you to respect them.😊

My mom has a huge homestead an the property and when she first got there she got a few hives from a friend. We wanted them mostly for occasional honey. But as they thrived the many old growth fruit/nut trees did too. What we didn't expect was just how positive the plants reacted to the bees. She now is getting so much fruit she's having to give them away by the box!
I wish more people would adopt a hive, they are so important an could use all the help they can get right now.

One reason she rarely gets stung is a lack of fear. When I first started beekeeping I was nervous and a little afraid and I got stung much more often than I do now. The bees know if you are frightened of them and it makes them more aggressive. Slow movement and no fear makes all the difference.

I hope most if not all Pest Control companies have Bee Keepers on speed dial - they will always find a keeper to come and rescue / move a hive or swarm, to their own hives or an appropriate location. No bees…no food. We all need to be aware. Great vid, Ericka.

There is likely a beekeeping association in the area. Ours has a swarm list...someone going out to collect a swarm. We take a donation of 50 bucks for the association coffers. It's also an opportunity to educate the public. In some cases, people who are initially scared become beekeepers with a bit of education.

Bees are so important to our eco system. Bees are awesome! They make wonderful honey! I think when we are very calm, it makes a difference. And, I think patience is a huge plus also. Can't rush them at all. I give you so much credit for being willing to do what you do. It takes a special person to do what you do. The knowledge it must take to do this must be tremendous.

That is something quite lovely, I'm yet to witness a dance. I do love my little black wild bees here in Tipperary Ireland, collected from swarms last year, but not wearing a suit isn't an option, I'd bee destroyed but funnily enough just today while inspecting & feeding, and moving the stand gently to cut grass underneath, they seemed a lot gentler. I like that they are protective of their queen & hive and as I'm a newbee I suspect they are getting used to my own phermones now and associate my presence with nice things.
    Blessing of joy dear lady.

Except in certain parts of the world there are no honeybees (or rather, don't have a native species of honeybee) so the idea that honeybees specifically are that important to the ecosystem or necessary to polinate is misleading. The main kerfluffle everyone goes on about are European honeybees. The problem; Not all bee species are honeybees, and often the articles you can draw up on searches will say if honeybees go extinct so will fruits and crops, but that's not true. For one, only one third of the crops rely on insect pollination. Yeah, one third is still a lot but again, honeybees aren't the only insect polinators and even insects aren't the only polinators. And journalists often either deliberately discount other, non-honeybee species or act like honeybees (usually European as that's what farmers are using the most) are literally the only bee in the world. They're not even factoring non-crop wildlife that do rely on non-honey bees.
Maybe it'll surprise people to learn honeybees aren't native at all to North America, for example. They're not a natural part of the ecosystem and the NA ecosystem will survive just fine without them. The last time we know for sure there was ever a native honeybee species in North America was 14 MILLION years ago (Apis nearctica). Honeybees were introduced to North America from Europe in the 17th century. The European honeybee, the major commercial species, is actually an invasive species in some areas in the world (Asia, which has its own native honeybees and non-honeybees), and compete with the native bee species in North America and Asia. So not only are those native populations at risk by the normal factors but the European honeybee itself is a risk factor to native populations of more rare bees that ARE the only polinators for certain species of plantlife.
There's thousands of native North American bee species, (all non-honeybee, again, honeybees are introduced and competing with native populations) and many haven't even been named or documented. They're also being affected by the same factors as honeybees but I cannot stress this enough, a lot of articles act as if honeybees are the only polinators and focus literally all of the attention on honeybees because, um, honey is the only thing people care about, and discount other polinators. This lack of attention will be disastrous, even if the honeybee itself is saved, for many native species of plantlife and native wildlife in North America that are only polinated by ONE species if more attention isn't given and action taken for more than just the honeybee.
If you'd like to contribute to helping the native ecosystems especially (assuming you're in North America), look into becoming a keeper of native bee species, like mason bees (though you may want to check with your local beekeepers what species of bees are native to your area and how to care for them, there are mason bees in Europe) which are far more endangered than honeybees because they are getting ZERO attention and yet have a far more important role in the ecosystem than non-native species. Mason bees especially are incredibly easy to attract and provide shelter for and they don't require the same kind of comitment as honeybees do or pose a danger to allergic individuals. Mason bees are also solitary and don't form hives. They build nests. I used to have mason bee houses and all you did was pull out last year's debris and insert a new paper liner into the tubes.

Except honey bees are not important for the ecosystem, bees are.
Solitary bee, wild bees, wasp also and hornets and a lot of other. Y'know ? All the other insects no one gives a flying fuck about because they don't generate income ?
The ones who are totally disappearing from the surface of the earth in huge part because we put beehive everywhere.
The only thing honey bees are important for, is beekeeper money.
