      yum yum Samatar so true. I've always asked myself, 'What is the big deal with Khan Academy?' So many people around me praise that channel. When I need help with something, people immediately tell me to check out Khan Academy. 👀 I check it out and it's difficult for me to follow along in most videos (explanations are not clear cut), the graphics are horrendous, etc. In my honest opinion, KA is so overrated.

    Hands down these are the VERY FINEST algebra videos I have ever seen anywhere online!
    These vids are accurate, clearly presented and very precise. Seriously, I wish more people would just jump on this bandwagon and any others that are good instead of posting stuff that is of lesser quality and does not help students as much. Get Whitt it!

    It's interesting to note that in the first example, when substituting 2 for X, the term -2^2 does not mean that -2 is squared =4. Because-2 is not in brackets the the minus sign applies to 2^2 = -4. I used to have trouble with this but an online video helped me out

    I think you made a mistake on problem number 1 Mr Whitt. You said -2 squared is -4, and -2 squared is supposed to be +4. Just thought I let you know. Love you though; you’re a genius and I learn a lot from you.

    • @FortBendTutoring
      @FortBendTutoring  4 года назад

      Our first problem has the opposite of two squared or negative two squared, not the square of negative two. In our first example, -2²; means -1 ● 2 ● 2 which equals -4. Squaring negative two is written as (-2)²; which means (-2)(-2) and equals 4. Thanks 4 watching!

    Mr. Whitt I'm not great at math and was wondering if you or anyone can explain to me that the first example you showed us (? 1a), Why was negative 2 squared equal to negative 4 don't the 2 negative values create a positive 4? Please respond when you have a chance I'm really confused.

      +Estevan Gallardo Hello Estevan!

    When you multiply two negative numbers does that not make a positive? Referring to the first question 1.a....

    • @FortBendTutoring
      @FortBendTutoring  10 лет назад

      That's true, however -2^2 means -1x2x2. If the expression was (-2)^2, then you would have (-2)(-2). To raise a negative to a power, you have to include it with parentheses.
