Withdrawal is often compared to the flu because that is the most realistic way to explain it to someone who has never felt it. The problem with that comparison is it doesn't come close to actually explaining the misery of withdrawal.
I would say it's like the flu except 10 times worse and there is an added level of mental and psychological misery that is nothing like the flu.
If you or someone you know is going through withdrawal remember millions of people have been through this and have come out the other side!! You can get through it!!

I was doing a certain stamp, now I stopped doing that stamp. Now nothing gets me well. Last night I threw up violently, I had to leave at 4am to go get well. Which still hasn't happened. I'm trying to go away tomorrow. I'm glad I found this channel. I had 3 years, and relapsed. Lately I've been an emotional wreck. I cry every time I talk to my mother. Lol. This is so much worse then when I got sober. This tranq shit. It's bad.

Methadone is a great treatment IF a person doesn't go any higher dose than actually needed and then once stable titrates slowly down (like 1 mg per week). To get on it legally or not and going to a higher dose and then cold Turkey is worse than heroin or morphine withdrawal due to methadone half life and the way it stays in muscles and organs.

Couple things I feel like you missed.. the wanting to crawl out of your own skin and not being able to sit or lay in a comfortable position for the entire 3-7 days. & once the “worse” of the physical withdrawal are over the mental/emotional anguish lasts for months to years. Mental fog, not wanting to shower or clean, feeling like simple tasks are impossible, not being able to drive, constant sadness, crying for no reason.. the list goes on & can take years to ever feel “normal”.

Yeaa that is dead accurate Vanessa. But I cover most of those in other videos and I would classify most of those under PAWS Post-acute Withdrawal Syndrome, not the original dope sick. You have made some good points young man. A couple of important additions is that you will have restless leg syndrome which will prevent you from resting or sleeping full stop (unlike flu). So, no respite. After 5-7 days the vomiting, diarrhoea, cramps, cold sweats and suicidal thoughts will ease. However, it will be approx 8 weeks before you are able to sleep for more than 5 minutes at a time. Around 2 months of being clean your body will allow you to fall asleep for maybe a couple of hours and, boy, will you be grateful! This is when the utter misery ends and the hard work starts. Now, with a broken, scrawny body and general feeling of fear you must start rebuilding you life - learning to eat again, force yourself to exercise to induce sleep - even if only 3 hours. Stay away from all your ‘friends/acquaintances’. Find something productive to do to distract and exhaust yourself. At 2 months into your withdrawal this is just the start. My advice is get away from your using neighbourhood and find an NA group. You don’t have to believe in God to begin with just be grateful for mutual support from and to people who understand where you’re at. This is just my experience and thoughts. Sending strength, peace and love to all the 21st century slaves of the devil. ❤❤❤❤

Lord that's the best explanation i could have said myself, within my p 20 plus year battle i tried cold Turkey many times, suboxone once, and after finally getting into a methadone program for 3 yrs i weaned myself down to 10mg and thought i would be fine to just stop, boy was i wrong lol was in misery for almost a month before i started to feel somewhat normal, and within 6 months i was back on oxys and before i knew it was back on Heroin and stayed that way until a little over 5 yrs ago when i overdosed twice in a week, thankfully after 3 things of narcan to get me to breathe again,i jumped into a new methadone program that had opened up in my town and that was march 28th 2018,and now ive been slowly weaning myself off again but this time im doing it the right way low and slow,i was at 115mg a day im now at 29mg and am going down 1mg a week so i still have a good bit of time left but im going all the way down and if i feel like i need to stop and level out for awhile i will,im in no hurry cause i wanna do it right and i am honestly ready unlike Last time when i was basically trying to hurry up and get off it cause i was fed up with the clnic i was at,i wasn't ready to totally get sober then looking back at it now but am totally committed to this time,I've been through both liver and kidney failure from just the abuse ive given my body and i had contracted hep b and c,thankfully i beat the b on my own and was fortunate enough to get started on the mavryt or whatever it's called and within 4 weeks i was testing negative for hep c,now i have a lot better health and i have kept my fulltime job for 5 years and got my credit score up to a 720 from a 490 or 500 and i have 5 credit cards now and am getting ready to buy a new car and am hoping to buy a house next, well that's the goal anyways, didn't mean to write a book but i am determined to keep my sobriety thru the last bit of my taper and forever after it,it can be done if you want it bad enough and also everyone is different and will have different ways of getting sober, whether it be methadone, suboxone, rehab, religion or jail or cold Turkey, what works for one person won't work for another,i hate when people let alone other addicts bash someone for doing what works for them,we should be supportive of each other not tear each other down because someone chose a different path to recovery! 🤘

I would never touch an opiate again just the thought of it makes me recoil. I was on heroin for ten years then methadone (over 100mgs) for another ten. I don’t think addiction is exactly what they tell us. It might be a serious vitamin deficiency that using the drug causes in us, and the withdrawals are not from lack of the drug but lack of essential nutrition? How else can my experience be explained? When people say withdrawal lasts 3 days and is like flu it seriously underplays how bad it is. When you have flu you sleep through a lot of it, in withdrawal you will not sleep at all. Although it is only 3 days (minimum) it feels like the clock is slowed down. Three days feels like weeks, with no sleep feeling worse than you’ve ever felt before, and the worst thing is you know you can make it stop whenever you want. It is torture

Interesting explanation thanks so much for sharing I just watch the series Dopesick and I have spoken with people who come off heroin as well as Xanax and have described Xanax is being very similar to heroin withdrawal and I finally made the emotional connection that it isn’t as much of physical you’re going to die but an emotional feeling and panic that you’re gonna die which makes complete sense because your whole pain system is screwed up from the drugs so of course you would be feeling not just the physical pain but the emotional pain and panic which would be very similar to coming off an anti-anxiety drug because Xanax is prescribed as an anti-anxiety drug when you come off of it you are experience in so much withdrawal that you feel really super Duper crazy anxious so it makes sense that Heroine would have a similar kind of withdrawal

Yea for sure thank you for the support and for watching. I think many heroin addicts don't just go through heroin withdrawal cause many of us are poly substances users so we have 2-3 withdrawals at once. That series dopesick is incredible and sad but dead accurate.

Excellently explained! So horrific that people will literally do anything to escape it, and it totally makes sense when you realise it literally highjacks your survival system, the joint pain, muscles cramping , you actually think your going to die. And I believe I prob would as my my body is not strong or healthy enough to cold turkey. There’s a false belief that opiate withdrawal isn’t life threatening, opioids that are lab made, and the doses that people are dependent on I think it’s more common, but you die from dehydration, which leads to loss of sodium and potassium, heart attacks and strokes from the rise in adrenaline.

If you do the right things and get some help opiate withdrawal won't kill you.
It is not life threatening in the way that withdrawing from benzos or alcohol is, with the risk of seizures etc.

Listening to this while I'm sick, and although I love that you hit how heavy a mental anguish it is, as well as all the physical sickness and pain. I had always messed with opiates, but I had no idea how bad it could be until the first time I had run out of money to buy heroin. It feels like someone has tied knots with my intestines

Very accurate description, so many muppets and drs describing it as a ‘bad case of the flu’ I hate that description

Yea the reality is to get normal people to listen and understand the flu is somewhat of an accurate way for normies to comprehend it but yea in reality its nothing like the flu its 1000 times worse.

I've been on methadone for years now, I just couldn't beat the withdrawals back in 2006 and decided to go on mmt.
I've been currently weaning a couple milligrams per week hoping to be completely off of it within a year.

Did a great job explaining it. I would also add even when using and you know have some left in the back of your head you know this won't last forever and at some point I'll have to face the consequences. So you don't even get to enjoy the relief it use to give. No sickness in the world is worst then dope sick. In fact it's like having every illness all at once then add the worst depression possible. Pure Doom. I Invision hell itself would be a better experience.

The main thing for me aside from having the worse flu symptoms on the planet was the restlessness. My joints literally hurt from days and days of restlessness. I didn't sleep for almost 5 days. The mental battle you face with being sick and not sleeping, you literally start to lose your mind to the point you have outbursts of screaming and crying and freaking out punching your arms and legs and shoulders to try and get them to calm down even for just a minute. The only temporary relief I could get was really REALLY hot showers. Literally sitting on the floor of the shower, skin almost burning, to try and get those muscles and nerves to calm down. And then running to bed trying to fall asleep before it came back. 9 times out of 10 I would be back in the shower within 30 min trying to get that relief again. It's a vicious thing.
