A digital version would be amazing as the books always sell out, and I can never get access to the books even though I’ve tried a considerable amount of times :p
I'm a die hard Portnoy fanboy but seeing the mutual respect you and Mike Mangini have for each other is beautiful. Consider me a Mangini fan after watching this video...
I get the feeling that Mangini's classes at Berklee would have been really fun 😂 Love the enthusiasm with which he's verbally showing the rhythms, and the emphasis on feel is really great.
I love the emphasis on feel and not counting exactly what's written. As an (extremely) amateur drummer that never learned to read music (so far) I usually go by feel, and in songs like A Change Of Seasons it's very much the vocals and guitar melodies that define the the rhythm breaks -- to me that is. Still can't say exactly what time signatures is in it lol. That part in Macchina you showed with score here is just boggling my mind too much though.
I wish i could get into Mangini but he just sounds so mechanical all the time, prefer Ray Hearne's style For sure has some insane drum parts that are fun to learn though
Just Got the Three Books and Doing Private Lessons via Zoom with Mike: awesome material!! I'm using That material to Improve my skills in My Drummer Carrier Like First Sight Reading (I'm Touring right now in the Official Musical "Cats"),then to memorize very long structures and to feal a sort of "peace" when I play...It' s easy when You know How....Thank You so much Mike and Shawn!!!
"One right hand and ten left hand hits" who's gonna use that?! WHOS GONNA USE THAT STICKING?! Clearly, someone doesn't come from the school of Complicated Drumming by the great Jens Hennemann
shipping to overseas is very expensive 40€+; ordered the books anyways but would be great if that changed. i guess there are a lot of people who would like to have the books.
Damn. Macchina really through me for a loop and opened me up to a whole new world of possibilities. Much thanks to Shawn for exposing me to this stuff and to the man himself, Mr. Mangini, for spreading the wealth. 💪
I'm not a professional drummer, I have however reached a level that could be considered pretty good for non professional drummers, I mainly play rock and I can play most songs without much of a problem, however, for a few years I've felt kind of stuck with my learning, there's only so much you can learn by covering songs, I've felt that I've been specially lacking in more complex coordination scenarios (like the ostinato example, I really struggle with those). Do you think this book would be a good way to level up my amateur playing?
Mike Mangini is unbelievably talented and seems like such a down to earth and cool dude I just prefer Mike Portnoy’s DT era and feel more. Maybe it’s just nostalgia
This is huge, congratulations! I received feedback by you on a video I uploaded of Macchina and you advised me to look Mike's books and videos. Adding this one to my list for when I travel to US.
Thanks to Mike for involving me in this! The book is available here: mikemangini.myshopify.com/products/rhythm-knowledge-volume-3-signed
Is there ever going to be a pdf or protected digital version?
i want to know the same, is there going to be a pdf version or an online version of the books?
A digital version would be amazing as the books always sell out, and I can never get access to the books even though I’ve tried a considerable amount of times :p
I can't think of a bigger flex than to CO write the continuation of rhythm knowledge. Huge congrats 👏
Shawn, watching your life since we met in school has been like reading a beautiful poem.
Aw thank you, Ben!

Why is it one or the other?
what does Portnoy have to do in this? this is not DT stuff boy
9:15 I like how Shawn looks like a kid there, and Ben Levin looks exactly the same as now.

So fun!
When will Sungazer open for DT?
Step one: Get Sungazer signed to InsideOut Music. Opening bands always come from the same label
Mike is so wholesome and so passionate, he just makes me want to practice and get better (and I don't even play drums)
woah that's so cool, congrats Shawn!
R LLLLLLLLLL

I remember Mike when Vai introduced the band members!
Im a guitarist but the books are really quite interesting hwne it comes to rythm/groove!
Would be great to see some more in-depth Dream Theater analyses!
That's amazing, Shawn! Congrats! Mangini is an absolute legend and you co-writing a book with him is an awesome achievement. Killer stuff man. :)
Great, 100 pages of paradiddles at all rates.
Should I get the other two first if I am really curious about the whole systems Mike and you created?
The first two aren't necessary for the third. But they're great books anyway. :)
I wish i could get into Mangini but he just sounds so mechanical all the time, prefer Ray Hearne's style

Fantastic news Shawn. I'm so happy for you! 😎🤘
Fucking awesome!
Alex Cohen is a master of left side against right side coordination. His solos are worth checking out!

Why does it say Perihelion is based in 13 tuplets, I thought it was 19 tuplets?
Maybe you're confusing it with Threshold?
Dang, might have to grab all 3 books
Dopest thing ever my dude, definitely will be checking out this series!!!
Mike Mangini is unbelievably talented and seems like such a down to earth and cool dude

I loved your drumming since the first time I saw / heard it.
Also a big Sungazer fan. Keep it up!
Congratulations Shawn, that's excellent news!!! Very excited to dive into volume 3!! :))
I’m not a drummer but I’d love some MIDI grooves to play around with. 😉
This is huge, congratulations! I received feedback by you on a video I uploaded of Macchina and you advised me to look Mike's books and videos. Adding this one to my list for when I travel to US.

Awesome looking forward 2 getting my copy.

Are the Rhythm Knowledge books sold anywhere as PDFs or ebooks more generally?
This is really exciting. I've ordered my copy 🥳
Yo this is bananas. I had the first 2 and loved them when I was at Berklee!
Ahh, this is mad cool, man! You deserve such recognition for this ✨🙏
Hey Shawn. You may have answered this, but can you start w the new book or do you have do 1 and 2 first to get value from 3?
"The first two aren't necessary for the third. But they're great books anyway. :)" he wrote in another reply

Getting this!!!!
Oh Wow, congrats Man!
NO WAAAAAY, THAT'S SO AWESOME
Omfg what?!?!
So sick!
Wow that's cool !
Oh wow! Congrats!
Awesome!
It always amazes me how people in the US and Europe need to study to "get" grooves that come so naturally when you're raised on Brazilian music
thats BS.. you cant generalize people, get off your high horse. 🙄
People in the US have to study to “get” Portuguese too. Seems to come naturally to people raised in Brazil.
