We're going on tour this fall! Ticket links in description. Also check out Adam's video about this tour, it's always so fun to have multiple perspectives on the same events.
This is not just a drumming vlog, this is a whole documentary on the emotions and stress a musician goes on tour. Very well made video, very well told story.
I am german I almost Fell of my chair when you suddenly spoke German lol good pronunciation btw! How/when did you learn it if I may ask? Love the content, keep up the amazing work!!
Hey Shawn. Apple Air tags placed In the luggage was the big tip I was given before my last trip. I was able To track my bags all over the world. Check them out for next time. They work great.
Hey, you may not remember the Copenhagen gig at all, but you were phenomenal. Your drum solo was one of the most interesting and mind-bending drum solos I've heard in a long time. I love how you switched seamlessly between different grooves and tempos. You really played with the rhythmic perception of the audience.
Man, not only an awesome musician, teacher & communicator but also your patience, tolerance and temperance during an stressful situation, like loosing your tools for work, are off the charts. And you speak 4 languages? We must protect him at all cost.
Jesus guys you are so amazing all three of you, I can't even put it into words. That was the happiest laptop glitch of my life back there in Manchester, you could see that by my intense head banging in the first rows of the crowd 😅 it's bobsled time! ❤️
Shipol airport misplaced our mando/ trombone players bag. All his clothes, pedals, cables, and trombone. Had to buy a new trombone and borrow a bunch of euro clothes and buy new underwear and socks. Not a great start to tour for sure.
Yeah what would it take to get you guys here? Perth has a very vibrant jazz scene going on, what with the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) jazz program here, and an annual international jazz festival. How does it work - how could we, the fans, facilitate Sungazer playing here?
...and you were in Copenhagen, Denmark for this tour...and i didnt became aware until i was too late...argggg....throwing myself onto my bed in hope it will turn into my floor...
Good drummer trip. Have your carry on be a cymbal/snare sized bag or suitcase. Stuff 2days of clothes inside your snare. Have clothes and 2 most important/hard to replace drum items on you at all times.
Couldn't go to the last show in paris cause i wasn't there at this date! and now I see that the next show there is on my birthday!!! You can be sure I'll be there!
Glad it turned out well in the end. I was just always wondering - how expensive is it to fly drums around to all those places? I have no exp with that yet :x
What an absolute horror story. I almost lost it when the 2nd set of cymbals seemed to be missing for a moment. But thanks for sharing. I'm gonna be holding on to my luggage for dear life the next time I fly. PS: That song with the microtonal solo on it sounded wild. Is that on any of your albums?
Great video! Thanks for sharing. I’m glad you retrieved your cymbals at last. What are they exactly? Both the loaners and your personals sound pretty fantastic.
Is playing with all those flashing lights and effects hard? do you have to practice playing in that environment? It seems like it would be extremely disorienting especially if you were lacking in sleep. How do you do it?
Yeah! I hate strobes. So disorienting, especially when they're not in sync with the rhythm. That Paris show was crazy, haha. Had to close my eyes for most of the show just to think straight.
Thank you for the great video Shawn, may I ask how you get the keyboards around Europe? Airlines accept them as checked-in baggage and don't break them...? Thank you, arigatou, vielen Dank
That really sucks. I got my cymbals stolen 2 times. Now I make sure to use an Apple Air Tag, you can trace exactly where are your bags. Highly recommended. :)
The current state of the berlin airport is horrible. Theres so little workers it doesnt matter where you came from or what airline you were flying with its at least an hour wait for the bags with every flight.
Hey Shawn, love the video (but im here shamelessly to get your attention on your latest video). Theres a New Zealander drummer by the name of Jamie St Merat. Theres a video on his youtube channel of him tracking drums for his band, Ulcerates latest album Stare into death and be still. Id love for you and/or Adam to check this out and talk about it. Gives NZ a bit of rep, plus i think youll be absolutely mind blown with his fusion of extreme metal and jazz stylings. Thanks! Grant.
Hi Shawn what a great behind the scenes vlog thank you for sharing!! How do you guys book these venues!? Also is your rooming paid by you guys or is that part of your tour!? Curious about how that stuff works :)
To be precise, airlines do not lose anyones luggage. It is the airport. Luggage becomes airlines concern when it has been loaded into plane and back to airport ground crew when they are unloaded. So, blaming airline is useless. They never lose a luggage from their cargo hold.
This SUCKS!!!!! For this fear, I always have cymbals part of my backline. just for this fact of them missing. I always carry on my important stuff, ears and all that. but aside of that, you are a killer drummer and enjoy your stuff.
You mean... a baggage handler stole your cymbals? Empty files... oh sure. Or maybe somebody stole it off the belt? I always carry-on equipment. Buy a seat for your guitar or peli case is a common move. Baggage handlers are notorious for stealing music equipment. This is why many bands prefer to go on the road, or if you're flying, rent stuff in per location.

This time, airtags for all your luggage, my dude!
See you in Stockholm!
I saw madrid at the end of the video but it doesn't show on your webpage... cancelled?
Please add İstanbul to the list !
German, Japanese, French - drumming is not your only superpower! ❤
Or another form of learning, practicing...
oui, nein, tabun? haha! you have to learn fast when you travelling.
oui, nein, tabun? haha! you have to learn fast when you travelling.
Let alone that special kind of guitar he learned to play in less than 250 hr of practice. He has an uncanny ability to learn.

Shawn Crowder: The polyglot who plays the polyrhythms

Learned it living in Berlin 2018-2021 :)
@@ShawnCrowder Ich war auch positiv überrascht, Shawn! Weiter so!
Hey Shawn. Apple Air tags placed In the luggage was the big tip I was given before my last trip. I was able To track my bags all over the world. Check them out for next time. They work great.
Yep.
Unless you're flying with Lufthansa...they just banned Airtags in the hold because it contains a lithium battery which may cause a fire.
Shawn out there speaking the language of every country known to man
I first read this as “Arlene lost my cymbals” and I was thinking who is this irresponsible Arlene and who entrusted her with cymbals
😂😂
Last time I trust Arlene…
Lmao
Arlene, Arleeeene, Aaaarleeeeeeeeene
I'm begging of you please don't take my cymbals
@Show Feet Guy And i thought it read "Jolene lost my symbols". I'm not glad we're both wrong , in this case. #HardShellCaseMatters
At 16:01 when you say "Look it's RUSH" I was expecting you to play YYZ.
(A Rush song named after an airport)
Hey, you may not remember the Copenhagen gig at all, but you were phenomenal. Your drum solo was one of the most interesting and mind-bending drum solos I've heard in a long time.

Dude wore the stage outfit at baggage claim lol
Airtags save the day for me!
would be that much more of a soul rush if you knew where your bag was but due to red tape woul be prevented from ever getting it.
I kid you not. I literally had to watch a commercial for SAS before viewing this video.
I watched it intertwined with Adam's video. Quite a ride.
Pffft the Scandinavian airlines piano solo was a great addition. Very silly without context, very painful with 😂
yeah if i got Hands on some sweet Meinl cymbals that were played by Shawn Crowder .....they probably would get "Lost" too
AirTags in all checked bags helps (in theory)
Jesus guys you are so amazing all three of you, I can't even put it into words. That was the happiest laptop glitch of my life back there in Manchester, you could see that by my intense head banging in the first rows of the crowd 😅 it's bobsled time! ❤️
i remember gigging on a boat!! was nauseatic at the start but it was a relief to get off!!
So sad I missed your gig in Hamburg! I hope you come back to germany soon.
I love Emel Mathlouthi's music! Such a small world that you also tour with her.
Shipol airport misplaced our mando/ trombone players bag. All his clothes, pedals, cables, and trombone. Had to buy a new trombone and borrow a bunch of euro clothes and buy new underwear and socks. Not a great start to tour for sure.
The trouble makes the end even sweeter
"customer satisfaction" at 18:14 - perfect way to end this
can't wait for your show in Indianapolis!!
Is Sungazer ever going to come to Australia? I'd love to see you guys live!
AUNZ tour I will literally make all of my friends go 😂
Yeah what would it take to get you guys here? Perth has a very vibrant jazz scene going on, what with the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA) jazz program here, and an annual international jazz festival. How does it work - how could we, the fans, facilitate Sungazer playing here?
Loved seeing you in Oslo! Thanks for signing my pink suit😎
I saw you guys when you came to Madrid. Had an amazing time!

my band played our worst show yet a week ago due to some tech issues, its relieving to know that you guys also deal with similar issues as well
Great to meet you and the guys in London - was a phenomenal show 👌
Couldn't go to the last show in paris cause i wasn't there at this date! and now I see that the next show there is on my birthday!!! You can be sure I'll be there!
One of the advantages of being an amateur is not having to trust airlines. Condolences…

I really wanted to come to your Manchester show, but my health hasn't been good lately so couldn't make it. :/ hopefully next time.
Great video! Thanks for sharing. I’m glad you retrieved your cymbals at last. What are they exactly? Both the loaners and your personals sound pretty fantastic.
Yes!! Sungazer in Spain!!!!!
Is playing with all those flashing lights and effects hard? do you have to practice playing in that environment? It seems like it would be extremely disorienting especially if you were lacking in sleep. How do you do it?

Our keyboardist checks one synth as oversize baggage and then rents a 2nd MIDI controller in each city... any brand will work for that
@@ShawnCrowderThank you for replying, Shawn, I appreciate it
very enjoyable vlogs! Keep em coming if you can! :D
Great vlog, Shawn!
That really sucks. I got my cymbals stolen 2 times. Now I make sure to use an Apple Air Tag, you can trace exactly where are your bags. Highly recommended. :)
as a german, it's so nice to hear you speak german! Love u man
Next time you’re in Memphis or Dallas, come to Little Rock, Arkansas.
Love the vlog please do more vlogs
The current state of the berlin airport is horrible. Theres so little workers it doesnt matter where you came from or what airline you were flying with its at least an hour wait for the bags with every flight.
out of curiosity - who IS your tracksuit supplier? the matching ones you used on stage look wicked cool :)

those flirty, jet-setting cymbals
That's why I systematically refuse when airlines ask me to handle my luggage themselves. The loss and the horrible handling, no thank you.
Fork up a little extra cash to spend an extra night in a hotel in the middle of a tour! You gotta have breaks!
at 7:00 was Adam Neely's laptop's WI-FI turned on? that's why the Ableton's update was able to interrupt the song?
yup just went through this 2 weeks ago in london with my pedalboard. United finally tracked it down and delivered it to me 4 days later. not fun
Hi Shawn what a great behind the scenes vlog thank you for sharing!! How do you guys book these venues!? Also is your rooming paid by you guys or is that part of your tour!? Curious about how that stuff works :)

WHAT A NIGHTMARE 🤢
So happy that it was resolved 🫀
WHAT is that last song playing at 17:30 does anyone know the name of it
I knew you knew Japanese… but German and French too? WTH Shawn, can I get some of that brain power lol
DUDE - Apple AirTag - gaffer it to inside of cymbal case 👊
You don’t take photos of the gear that travels in cargo?
say hi to my dear friend Pier Luigi Salami !!!

Apple Air tags, brother. Cheap..>and they work.
What cymbals do you normally play? And what cymbals did Meinl send you to use?
polyrhythmic polyglot
Excuse me? Ableton has auto updates? That can’t be turned off? How? I’ve never heard of this before.
in Adam's video you see the explanation, the default is automatically update
Madriiiid yeeeeesssss
What is the song at 12:01 ?
Sounds gorgeous and smooth and warm.
BER... lol.
Infamous airport
Stress test be-like
Unfortunately, the UK isn't part of Europe anymore.

Air France counter can't see SAS if they are not on the same alliance.
What is the song they play at the end?
Next Jakarta Indonesia
someone needs to teach your crowds how to mosh
Next time place an apple AirTag in ur bag
It does make for great content 😂
Love the overly dramatic intro
How the h*** does Ableton Live do AUTO UPDATES without even ASKING anything?
on the Adam video you see that the autoupdate is selected by default
Tell me something that SAS hasn't f-ed up in the past year, istg
You deffenatelly have some kind of gear curse)
don't tell me.... KLM?
Cymbals are hand luggage, mate.
Scandinavian Airlines sucks so bad :(
Lol the queen is in fact dead
On hold music is unbearable for a musical illiterate like me; I can't imagine how terrible it is for Shawn.
NOOOOOO
His cymbals wernt there 😟
Why so negative? So little of the positive? Was it really this bad?
Great Vlog video. Music is awesome! Keep it up! MPLS, please!
