I don't usually comment on many videos on RUclips, and less of a language that is not mine, but in this case I'm going to make an exception. A video of an hour and a half with this level of explanations, comparisons, plans and other work is worthy of admiration, incredible that this channel only has 27,000 subscribers, because you deserve many more. Regarding the camera, a big jump from Panasonic and at the height of Sony and canon if it is not above. I don't know if I will update my s5 for the s5ii since I don't make a video, just a photo but the great work you have done with all the videos you have made of the camera and especially this video is very appreciated.

WELL this marathon has convinced me. yes whole heartedly I am definitely going to make the purchase. thank you so much for taking the time to so convincingly explain all of the features. zen billings in canada
Phenomenal review. I’m looking to jump into the full-frame mirrorless world - right now with the S5 II, Panasonic seems to have more of what I’m looking for than any other brand. I really love those f1.8 primes. I’d like to see what Nikon does with a Z6 III too. But it’s both companies’ light but excellent f1.8 primes that really appeal to me.
Hi Eric, I'm really looking forward to see the Nikon Z6 III too. I agree both Nikon and Panasonic's f/1.8 prime lens line up are excellent. The two best in the industry right now. In terms of features, Panasonic definitely offers more than any of it's competitors and usually they would have a very solid implementation as well and that's what makes me enjoy testing and using their products
What a review Sir. TY so much. I had just ordered the S5ii and looking for proper reviews and came across you. I am more then excited for this camera to show up. Cant wait. cheers
Hey man, I binge-watched maybe 15 reviews from some very high quality vloggers and yours is the most thorough and detailed. yes I did watch the whole thing from start to finish. I think the amount of work that this must have taken is a testament to your personal generosity. Really well done. Many thanks.
Wow! Your review is the most comprehensive I've ever seen! I'm a Fuji shooter and happened to come across the your S9 review . Because the S9 shares the same sensor as the S5II, so i checked out this video. I'm blown away by how good the S5ii sounds, and how underrated Lumix cameras are. I'm really interested to see how the S9 will play out and check out post production reviews later on, as in terms of size and weight, i think it's a perfect travel camera. I love the Fuji simulations but the Lumix lut looks equally as appealing. The image quality at higher iso is seemingly better in a ff than an apsc camera. The IBIS is really impressive and the autofocus is pretty much spot on (which Fuji lags behind).
The most detailed evaluation so far, very, very, very detailed, I read it from beginning to end, thank you for your production, follow and like, and learn from you.
Best review for Lumix S5 II & S5 IIx, thanks. Get the S5 IIx last month and love it. Updated to the latest firmware v1.5 and get even more improvement. Handhold high resolution mode and many new features added. Moreover, I can use all my Canon EF lenses with an Viltrox EF-L adaptor.
Fantastic review! I watched all the way to the end and then went back to re-watch multiple sections. You have created a great reference for Lumix S5II users. I love your channel!
Great! Looking forward to see in-depth image quality comparison with S1/S5 as Panasonic said many times that they stick with dfd because it produces superior image quality than phase detect autofocus due to pixel mask. Would love to see if the S5 mark ii have inferior IQ due to the new autofocus.
Watched the whole video and also the autofocus comparison video. Both great video’s! You made it very tempting to order one! Greatings from Peter, the Netherlands.
I watched till the end and totally enjoy it from your viewpoint on this new S 5 Mk II. I'm using Lumix MFT and will definitely consider this if I moved up to full frame. Thank you for your honest opinion.
Great video. Thank you very much. I have a few questions: Panasonic Lumix S5IIX vs. S5II both have the same sensor? both have the same video quality? i just got a 5II (no X) no 6K auto focus also 180 150 FPS no auto focus at (X) also same? I would be grateful for your answers.
Hi Foto Fort, i believe the two cameras have the same sensor, processor..etc and hence same video quality when shooting in the same mode S5II has autofocus in 6k. But it doesnt have AF in 150fps+ , same as S5IIx
This is an EXCELLENT comprehensive review! Amazing work. Q: For stills, does the camera get the actual eye in focus for portraits? When importing the photos into the computer, The S5 notoriously front focused on eye lashes, eyebrows and glasses rims. Want to see if they fixed this issue with the S5 ii because I mainly do portraits. Thanks.
Watched to the end! This camera seems so rich in features it makes sense it really isn't feasible to review it all in a single video. So much to learn, I'll probably be ready to upgrade it by the time I figure it all out
Yes it is impossible to review and talk about everything. The more things I tested, the more I feel there are other things I could and should test. I'm really glad Panasonic let us have our hands on the camera for about a month before launch.
@@TheRealRichardWong yes like I just learned from the live stream that they included monochrome live view shooting which people had been asking for in the s5 to help with focus peaking. Maybe not as important now with updated AF but still very nice for anyone shooting manual or vintage lenses
Thank you, Richard!!! Still watching to the end, and blown away by the quality of this video (and will be watching the shorter videos that focus on a specific feature, too). I really do appreciate how deep your reviews go into both the specs AND the real world functionality of the camera. I am PSYCHED that the MC-21 now works with AF-C, and the real only bummer is the crop in 4K 60 / 50fps. BTW, did you get recognized by people on the street when you were in Tokyo?
Thank you! glad you found the review useful :) Re getting recognised by people on street, NO! There are quite a few of the Panasonic staff that know me, and a few other RUclipsrs/guests know me but that's about it. My channel is way too small :P
Wow, this review was insane detailed. I watched it every minute until the end. Until seeing this I was in doubt to buy s5II or the fx30 from Sony, but now I will definitelly take the S5II. Thank you very much, I SUBSCRIBED.
Thank you for such a detailed tour of the camera. Perhaps you have the most voluminous and most informative review on the Internet. I watched the whole video to the end with great pleasure. Despite the brevity and conciseness of the information, the review turned out to be really huge. To be precise, these are the merits of the camera with its rich functionality. I don't even call it just a camera anymore, but a photocomputer, because inside the case it began to perform all the necessary tasks, and in the mark 2 version, thanks to Lut's in real time, even a computer is not needed for average shooting and subsequent processing. Well, I agree with you, the Panasonic S5 mark 2 camera is close to becoming perfect. I also like that it now has 2 identical memory cards, there is a large HDMI connector, the above-mentioned real-time LUT, not to mention the most important function of the millennium - phase autofocus. In general, when the first talks about full-frame Panasonic came in, I expected that they would take a big step forward as Fujifilm, and immediately master medium-format cameras, bypassing all intermediate formats. Perhaps they left a reserve for the future in order to step over the medium format at once and become full-format in the future. Of course, I know that 16-bit RAW is the prerogative of the medium format, but I still dream of it appearing in full-frame cameras. 16-bit RAW frames give an incredible depth of color space, transmitting the volume as well as possible. I think this is another point that is not enough for the conditions of an ideal camera. I also agree with you that it would be nice if there was a 32 megapixel camera version. 48 megapixels give too small a pixel size, which increases noise, 24 megapixels are not enough for the camera to be a full-fledged APS camera, because 10 megapixels in Aps mode is clearly not enough. I generally think that it was worth taking an example from Sony, but only to release two versions of 16 and 32 megapixels. 16 megapixels would be a good option for video, and sufficient for photography, 32 megapixels would be a good camera for photography, but both would be good universal cameras anyway. In this scenario, I would have bought two at once, because I didn't know where to stop. It would be a good marketing move :)
thank you so much my friend. yes camera these days are becoming like a computer with so many additional features and processing on top of the basic photography/videography feature
Thoroughly enjoy your excellent and detailed review, I watched until the last frame. Thank you so much for the effort and I shall following your upcoming master pieces.
Super review! Thanks for your work and interesting in show us all details about this great product! I have the S5, and I am waiting for S5II X in this next summer. 200$ more than S5II maybe will be better to solve little "problems" have the S5II (CFexpress card, but more expensive. Everything have a price!)
thanks for watching! Btw no sure if i misunderstand what you wrote, but the S5IIX doesn't use CFExpress cards, it is. the same as S5II which is dual SD UHS-2
@@TheRealRichardWong ohhh, well I have misunderstood other videos. Well, let's see if in the future Panasonic can to fix it with some firmware. Anyway, thanks!
really exceptional video on the panasonic S5 ll richard, the best review out there. thx for the big effort. as a stills shooter I can't justify the price increase for this camera, none the less really glad panasonic made the move instead of keeping their heads in the sand . zen billings in canada
Hi Zen, thanks for watching! The recommended retail price for the S5II is actually the same as the original S5, or the A7III. So it's quite a bit cheaper than the Sony A7IV and Canon R6II The street price of the S5 is quite a bit cheaper now probably because it's a 2 year old camera now.
@@TheRealRichardWong ha ! thanks for correcting me richard. its still money out of my pocket and as a 78 year old senior the upgrade isn't good value when i'm completely satisfied with my S5 ..... still thx for your outstanding review !
Hi Richard, this is a fantastic and highly thorough review. And yes, I watched to the end so adding this comment per your request. Thanks for the little clip of the 14-28mm lens at the end. I am planning to get this lens.
hey Peter.. thanks for the comment :) that really helps this video to do better. I will try to do the 14-28mm review as soon as i get my hands on a proper review sample
Looks awesome and makes me happy. My prediction was that they would jump to the top or near it for AF with the addition of PDAF to what they already had, glad to see I was right! Looking forward to S1/R/H updates. If one ends up with HHHR I'll buy 2 :)
I did lol. I fully agree with you that this is the best full frame camera as for value for money on the market at present. It will be a big dent to the Sony A7IV and is competitely priced against the Canon R6II. Still I believe the lack of leading edge sensor technology is what is preventing Panasonic to be the absolute leader. With several Sony, Canon and now Nikon cameras that can offer 8k and 4k60 full frame Panasonic is yet lagging behind. On the other hand if the PDAF engine makes it to MFT Panasonic is well set to become an absolute leader in the super16 erm what am I saying cropped sensor market for video
All except some of the video review, as I never do video. I haven't come across your reviews before, I'm really impressed with how thorough this one is and how straight forward and sensible.
Wow again. Incredible review, and it really is so impressive how you can produce 2-1/2 hours of incredibly useful and informative content, by yourself, in around two weeks. It’s no wonder Panasonic trusts you to deliver honest and insightful reviews for their new products before they are released. Like with the GH6, it’s amazing what Panasonic have achieved, and it looks like they have a real winner on their hands. One thing that did surprise me a little bit, I’m pretty sure I read on the B&H announcement that it was able to shoot 4K 120 somehow, is that maybe just an S5 IIx thing, or did I miss you saying something about it? I promise I watched all the way through 😇
Oh thank you so much! I have 2TB of photos/videos/test data on my computer all for the S5II so i did really spend a lot of time working on this review. But the worst part was re-watching my videos again again and again to pick all the mistakes, double check if anything is incorrect..etc (Fun fact, i've re-render/uploaded 3 versions of this review just yesterday alone as I keep spotting something incorrect when re-watching) But I do really appreciate Panasonic would give us the camera as early as they can and gave us enough time, unlike a lot of other companies that just send us the product a few days before launch which make it pretty impossible to do anything deep. Especially for a small channel like mine that pretty much have to post on the embargo time or no one will watch it. Re 4k120, no there is no 4k120. You have FHD 120.. actually up to 180fps but for 4k is up to 60fps
@@TheRealRichardWong oof, 3 two hour re-uploads is rough! I guess B&H got it wrong then, you would think the biggest camera store in the US would get their facts straight, but then I guess they don’t have the same size team at their disposal as you? You seriously deserve more views. But I know those of us who do watch, really appreciate the quality of videos you make
LOL. of course B&H can't compete with the mighty RichardWong. But to be fair, with so many brands/gears they have to deal with every week, they probably can't dedicate someone on one review/video for a whole month to reread all the specs like 500 times. While I would certainly love to have more views, but knowing I have some good viewers like you who do really support my little channel and appreciate what I did is already very rewarding!
Thanks for all of your hard work and really excellent, concise and extremely helpful information Richard. This has personally helped me no end with learning about this camera and its functions, which I am now eagerly awaiting for delivery here in the UK (S5iiX) I'm new to your channel but am going to be viewing everything relevant to the S5iiX, its settings, tips and how to get the most out of it. Thank you!
Andrew, thank you for watching! I hope you have received your S5IIx and enjoying it now! I do have quite a few S5II/x and Lumix related videos on this channel so yeah check them out :)
@@TheRealRichardWong Thanks Richard... Yes, I received it last week, just in time for a solo exhibition, so I've been really enjoying learning (slowly) how to use it. I will have more time next week when my show is finished to sit down and work through some more or your excellent videos. Thanks again for all of your hard and great work, very much appreciated.
I watched this video entirely. Thank you so much for your hard work. Awesome job! I was highly anticipating the S5 follower wishing for what has come true now. Now Lumix is up to par with Sony on the autofocus and even better with some of the additional features. And with the upcoming S5 IIx Panasonic takes it even a step further and I think not many wishes after that will remain unanswered. They are even answering some wishes we didn't know we had. Excellent review of an exceptional camera! Thanks again and keep it up! I am a big fan of Panasonic, Sony and Canon as companies since they have given so much to the world so far. I remember Sony had given us the Walkman ® and state-of-the-art TV's in the tube days back in the day. Panasonic gave us the best VHS Video recorders while Sony created Betamax back then which unfortunately was thrown under the bus by VHS. Also Panasonic owned Technics gave to us one of the best analog HiFi Tech ever made. Sony to my understanding still are building one of the best smartphones with a decently low personal. And Canon is in the camera market forever and always produced the best analog cameras together with Nikon, Minolta, Pentax, Olympus etc. back in the analog days. Actually my first digital camera was the Canon PowerShot S40 which spotted a 4MP CCD sensor. And looking at these old pictures from 2002/2003, even of a low resolution they are still looking pretty good.
@@TheRealRichardWong I totally love your style! I read one of your answers below and I can't appreciate enough the work that you are putting into all of this. I can relate that it is at times tireing to rewatch every scene again and again to finally get things right. Wow. What a job. Sometimes I felt pitty for bands that decades ago had a couple of hits and anytime they perform somewhere they have to sing the same ol' songs time and time again. But then I thought, they have their proper share of income from that and they wanted it that way. So I am not feeling pity for them any longer..haha. But for you it's your bread and butter, that's way different. At least you won't be forced into watching your own videos repeatedly 20 years from now...😁
Still the best channel for Lumix news. Nobody else is doing such accurate early tests!

Great! Looking forward to see in-depth image quality comparison with S1/S5 as Panasonic said many times that they stick with dfd because it produces superior image quality than phase detect autofocus due to pixel mask. Would love to see if the S5 mark ii have inferior IQ due to the new autofocus.
Your reviews are just amazing, full of respect sir 🙏
Thank you so much!
Hi Richard, thanks for another fantastic in-depth review. Really appreciate the effort and honesty you give in your reviews as they are so helpful.
Thank you so much for your support, I'm really glad to hear my review helped :)
Watched the whole video and also the autofocus comparison video. Both great video’s! You made it very tempting to order one! Greatings from Peter, the Netherlands.
Hi Peter, thanks for watching!! I will want to visit Netherlands one day!
Richard, this is a great review with lots of good examples! I watched the whole thing...
Much appreciated William Thank you!
great video Richard. Thanks a lot for your work !!
My pleasure!
I watched till the end and totally enjoy it from your viewpoint on this new S 5 Mk II. I'm using Lumix MFT and will definitely consider this if I moved up to full frame. Thank you for your honest opinion.
thank you so much Mityvisionz!
Incredible detailed review, Richard! Thanks! I am going to get the Lumix S5 IIx when it comes out at the end of May.
Thanks for watching and enjoy the s5iix!
thank you for all the details, this video is very well done.
Thank you so much idkdarius !
You ROCK! Another great review. I enjoyed it. Greatings from Croatia Richard!
THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!
Simply the best review of anything I have seen I have subscribed thank you
Thanks for the sub David!
Thank you for an EXHAUSTIVE and excellent review!
Richard, glad you enjoyed it!
The best video a saw today of the same theme. Thank you!!!
oh thank you so much @Pachiscruz2 !
Hi Foto Fort, i believe the two cameras have the same sensor, processor..etc
and hence same video quality when shooting in the same mode
S5II has autofocus in 6k. But it doesnt have AF in 150fps+ , same as S5IIx
Amazing video, I can really see the amount of hard work that went into this and I’m only half way through!
Thanks a ton! :)
Thanks.
I have not noticed "eyelash" focus issue so far. But I need to wait a bit before I can get hold of a 85mm 1.8 lens to do more close up portrait shots.
oh and thank you so much for watching and glad you enjoyed this review
@@TheRealRichardWong That would be so awesome! That's the same lens I tested the S5 with. It would be awesome to hear your results! Thank you.
Oh yes I watched that Livestream too. Always something I can learn from Sean and Matt... etc
This video is perfect for those who have this camera. It is more of an instruction tool than camera choice tool. I may have one soon.
thank you so much!
Just 2 Years too late... never less your review is really great 👍
thanks for watching :)
Your review was good review that I watch to the end. Very informative. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you! glad you found the review useful :)
Re getting recognised by people on street, NO! There are quite a few of the Panasonic staff that know me, and a few other RUclipsrs/guests know me but that's about it.
My channel is way too small :P
Will the S5IIx have there crop in 4K 60 also?
Wow, this review was insane detailed. I watched it every minute until the end. Until seeing this I was in doubt to buy s5II or the fx30 from Sony, but now I will definitelly take the S5II. Thank you very much, I SUBSCRIBED.
Thanks for the sub! I have a lot of other s5ii and Lumix contents on my channel too :)
Much appreciated Jakob! :)
Fantastic video, super detailed down to the last detail, just perfect, many thanks, greetings from Switzerland
Thank you very much Roy!
Amazing review! Thank you so much! :D
Thank you very much 🥰
If the stabilizer worked in photo mode like it does in video, the camera would be a game changer.
really exceptional video on the panasonic S5 ll richard, the best review out there. thx for the big effort. as a stills shooter I can't justify the price increase for this camera, none the less really glad panasonic made the move instead of keeping their heads in the sand . zen billings in canada
Hi Zen, thanks for watching! The recommended retail price for the S5II is actually the same as the original S5, or the A7III. So it's quite a bit cheaper than the Sony A7IV and Canon R6II
The street price of the S5 is quite a bit cheaper now probably because it's a 2 year old camera now.
@@TheRealRichardWong ha ! thanks for correcting me richard. its still money out of my pocket and as a 78 year old senior the upgrade isn't good value when i'm completely satisfied with my S5 ..... still thx for your outstanding review !
Yes understand your concerns. :)
A very good and informative review as always, thank you Richard Wong!
Glad you enjoyed it Alex! Thanks for watching
Impressive review, as always. Hopefully this camera will help grow the userbase of lumix cameras and help grow your channel as well.
Oh i hope so too (for both!!) :) Thanks Michael!
Watched till the end. Much more gripping than most Hollywood movies out there. Thanks Richard great review. You're a beast 💪❤️❤️🙏
oh thank you so much!
Panasonic nailed it! Great review.
Thanks for watching!
Amazing review. I watched the whole thing.❤
oh thank you!
Looks awesome and makes me happy. My prediction was that they would jump to the top or near it for AF with the addition of PDAF to what they already had, glad to see I was right! Looking forward to S1/R/H updates. If one ends up with HHHR I'll buy 2 :)
AF is definitely near the top now. There is some room for improvement but nothing too major
So, what do you guys think about the new Panasonic Lumix S5II and IIx? And... who managed to watch this review from start to end? No cheating!
But the worst part was re-watching my videos again again and again to pick all the mistakes, double check if anything is incorrect..etc (Fun fact, i've re-render/uploaded 3 versions of this review just yesterday alone as I keep spotting something incorrect when re-watching)
But I do really appreciate Panasonic would give us the camera as early as they can and gave us enough time, unlike a lot of other companies that just send us the product a few days before launch which make it pretty impossible to do anything deep.
I like your videos they are very well made. Your pictures are beautiful.Great job!!!
Thank you very much!
Thanks for all of your hard work and really excellent, concise and extremely helpful information Richard. This has personally helped me no end with learning about this camera and its functions, which I am now eagerly awaiting for delivery here in the UK (S5iiX)
I'm new to your channel but am going to be viewing everything relevant to the S5iiX, its settings, tips and how to get the most out of it.
Great review, thanks for the huge amount of work you put into this!
Much appreciated Sebastian!
One thing that really intrigued me is that the stabilization is on par with a gh6
Yes i didn't expect that. But then it's for video mode only i think, for photo mode, the GH6 is still way better.
Fantastic channel, my first time here, Gerald Undone was my favorit until now but this is even better.
Oh thank you so much 💖 I love Gerald's videos a lot so really glad to hear you associate mine with his
Insightful Review !
Thank you!
Great video ! Thanks for all the hard work that went into this 🎉
Glad you enjoyed it RW!
Watched the full video. Great job 👏
THANK YOU Very much!
Thanks! Sold my S5 mark I a week ago, getting my mark ii tomorrow haha🎉
Congratulations and enjoy!
Thanks so much for watching the entire video Yes agree these companies have all created some fantastic products and inventions
At least you won't be forced into watching your own videos repeatedly 20 years from now...😁
Aw! I wish I was there with my G80! Great Job Richard! 💪
oh that would be great. I met quite a few content creators from the UK
