Some of the greatest singers and performers never wrote a song but always out their stamp on the material they sought out and interpreted. The “singer-songwriter” model is a 1960s rock / folk thing that doesn’t define the art of good music. This is a likable tune regardless of the writer. Good post and discussion!

Jane was just a bar chord strummer. She didn't have the music skills of Kathy and Charlotte. However she had the best backing vocal ability with a very nice voice, always played solidly and was the most energetic on stage. So she was a very good fit. And probably the cutest of the group. But she had to have some musical ability to be a viable member and she did. To be honest I never knew too much about them as to who had the most music writing contributions. I'll assume more went to Charlotte.

They showed a chart, and a lot of the tunes they co-wrote. Jane mentioned publishing is where the money is, and when Jane and Charlotte got handed a million dollar check, it caused some real problems in the band with the others.

Not the case. Get up and Go was from Vacation which was released in 1982. They released Talk Show in 1984. They toured for that and then Jane left. Kathy moved to rhythm guitar and they hired Paula Jean Brown (co writer of Mad About You) to play bass. They officially broke up in 1985. Years after this video.

Its about time this comes up on youtube. Loved the song in 82, though MTV played it a lot, it wasn't a big hit on the pop chart. Charlotte and Jane are such good dancers. Gina looks so cute in that longish isolated shot when she is looking at the rocket as she plays drums. That's good that they kept that in there for so long.
For the record, Kathy left the band in 2013, but she has been back with the Go-Go's for almost 2 years, and they toured in 2018; thankfully, their differences have been settled.
