Re: Katy Perry statement like I've said a few times, he's pointing out that melodically they're in the same key of Ab Maj. It's actually really cool to point that out by ear, the first half of both melodies share a few notes the way they land on the C. Nobody is obligated to like every song they release. I personally appreciate that you guys give so much input and info about making music and different genres that I wouldn't notice otherwise. 💜
Honestly when I listen to an explanation or a reaction to BTS I prefer to hear an honest opinion, not just exclamations and wonder. We are all different with different tastes, it is impossible for us to all like everything, even for bts 😂
I was BabyARMY when Indigo was released and was also struck with the "belting" in Firework and youjeen's lovely vocals on Namjoon's track being similar. I felt sheepish when I pointed it out on a Reactor's MV, but the comment was ignored so I went on about my way 🤷🏾♀️ Funny thing about the STIUTK gotye guitar lick - as you probably know, he lifted that from a Thrift Shop Album and ended up paying the Artist to settle use. I still love gotye, but I guess being a Fully Family Funded Artist helps when you just want to use something.
RM also said that Indigo is not meant for you to skip tracks. You need to listen in order. Indigo is a masterpiece. For me, Indigo will be part of my life forever.
This album took him 4 years to make, there's a lot of context he gives throughout all the making of/interviews and content that was released when indigo came out. Some songs were recorded as early as 2019. The features were VERY intentional. On the other hand, Change, is the original "demo" recording. Indigo is meant to be a whole journey and that's why it's themed like an art exhibition. But like art it can also take its own meaning depending on who consumes it. Nonetheless, getting into the RM creative process is fascinating and my favorite part of any album he releases.
The artists he collabed with from Korean are all top tier in Korea and he admires them. It’s meaningful how he chose them. He had a video where explains each song which makes it more special.
Indigo for me, is obviously a great album, but like you said RPWP is his masterpiece. There are SO MANY reasons behind this. First off, the people he worked with in and worked on all these years were mainly pop or hip hop adjacent kind of music. Indigo helped RM find his SOUND, his TEAM, and also CREATE an audience to receive the kind of album RPWP was, because it really is a LARGE TRANSITION for an artist like RM and a global fandom like ARMY from English pop singles to an album such as RPWP.
He said that this album chronicles his 20’s and is meant to be listened to in order. He never said it was for different albums. I think it was done over a long period of time which is why it seems like that. He also used specific art as inspiration by his favorite painter. I got the vinyl album which came with beautiful prints that RM did himself in the color indigo.
I echo what some have already said here.. According to RM, Indigo was a diary of his 20s so it's safe to assume each song was a chronicling of that decade.. like his falling in love with paintings and still art (Still Life, Yun) or wanting to be more like flowers in a field (Wildflower) instead of fireworks that, in his words, "..happens so fast-- so short and beautiful, but it's gone... I've been thinking about the theme like since 2015, and so it took like actually almost seven yrs to.. make that into an actual song... But the song is a symbol of my 20s, and this album is as well." -- RM on Variety p.s. Enjoying your insights and analyses 💜
I really enjoy this series. Work got in the way so I’m watching way later 😅 I especially love that Varnell felt Namjoon’s encouragement to us to listen to the album out in nature. He felt like going namjooning before he knew about namjooning 😂
There is no way this got 100 views only. Sleep gotta say I've really been looking forward to these, catching up on these videos with Varnell is very comforting. You're a lovable bunch. Keep doing you. Keep it a 💯
I was waiting for part 2 for Indygo and checking the chanel but it wasn't showing up for me. Only now it popped up. Looking at the views I don't think it's only me that happened to 😢
Wtf RUclips why is this the first time I’ve seen this?? Loved the breakdown! RM set an example for the others to really explore and experiment creatively that has bloomed for all of them the last few years of solo works.
I love how you picked up on the nature vibes of the album just from listening to it, and that point about how it reveals that desire to be outside after being cooped up during lockdowns is so insightful!
hey, thank you for your perspective and analysis of RM's music, I like to hear producers and artists' take, it's always appreciated. What I'd like to say is about your guesses why and what motivated RM to create Indigo, that you said it was his creativity project and that it was the best he could do in pandemic. From his own words, this album represents his 20s. That all the songs were written here and there when he felt something during a decade, that songs are all over the place because they're from different times in his life, some when he was younger and less experienced. So releasing it was more like for sorting through his thoughts and feelings. I recommend to watch Suchwita episodes sometime, specifically the very first episode with RM. There he talks a lot about Indigo, and his state of mind before enlistment. Sure, there's a little chance that you'd watch it, but hey, there's hoping ;) To tell you more, Suchwita is Suga's show on RUclips, he interviews people there, and RM was there twice, first like a (first ever) guest, second they switched and he interviewed Suga as Agust D, there Suga talked about his latest album D-Day, and overall about his trilogy albums. This show gives you more insights in their minds than any other videos or interviews, because it is just two friends talking over some alcohol drinks, discussing their music careers. Warning alert: they are talking really fast there, and it might be confusing sometimes because of the captions moving too fast, so it's best to pause sometimes, or because they say some Korean references foreigners usually don't know (that's me too)... However, it's interesting, fun, and gives you a lot of information. And also, all the BTS members were on Suchwita, so maybe it's for the future, after getting to know vocal line as well. ok, thanks, take care!
RM supposed to do his military service with jhope but he's convinced by his friend to do this project before going because he surely still have something to let out from his mind and gladly he got these friend who help and work with him for rpwp. Namjoon really show his raw feeling and how he make his art freely. It's indeed masterpiece. I do love indigo It's more easy going to listen for casual listener but for fans who craving for pure art will definitely mad love rpwp more.
Thanks for this reaction! Indigo has a lot of my heart and I love to hear long time musicians talk about it. And what you said actually makes so much sense looking back
Esto solo apareció en mi YT hoy.... No puedo creer que me perdí esto durante un mes😮. Amo INDIGO siendo Change. Pt 2, Lonely, Wildflower y No.2 mis absolutas favoritas❤
Yep. Namjoon LOVES being outdoors and visiting museums and famous landmarks. ARMY calls it Namjooning. It probably did put him in a funk by not being able to do that for a year or two. I'm in Phoenix and there was so many people playing golf in the golf course by my apartment at the time. It was kinda perfect since you stay with your group but otherwise don't interact with others, and get be outside in the fresh air.
Thanks for a wonderful reaction. Sleep Deez, you guys should react to RM Indigo Album Magazine film. In which, he talks about each song of Indigo and his on each song.
So weird, this just showed up in my feed today.... Like wtf?! And I see, I'm not the only one this happened to...? Nevertheless I really enjoyed the conversation you two had. 😊💜 Apobangpo
Hello guys, 💜 your reactions! Sleep don´t know if you already watched 교환앨범 MMM(Mini & Moni Music) - RM on Bangtantv channel. RM and Jimin are talking about RPWP and going deep. I think Varnel as RM bias (and you too ofc) would love it. :D Oh and interview with Zach Sang where RM talking about Indigo. PS for you VARMY: The act of living as Kim Namjoon, including taking walks through parks, admiring nature, and feeding your mind and soul by doing the things you love. 💜
I'm so vindicated to hear your thoughts on Indigo and the English songs. I truly love some of the songs on Indigo, it's an album I'll keep coming back to for sure, but RPWP is a whole different experience to me. That felt like something which had been building up for a long time and was bursting to come out. As a listener it grabbed hold of me, shook me up, and I came out the other side changed. Looking at the views/streams it's obvious the more 'pop' and accessible songs will always be far more popular, and I know RM knows that very well. But I'm so glad he's in a place where he feels empowered to throw caution to the winds and make something he knows won't be 'accessible' and won't be popular. He's definitely found enough of an audience now who 'gets' that kind of music. Personally I hope there's more of that to come in the future, one way or another! And re. the BTS English singles... I'd heard that was part of a deal with an American label before, but hearing it again makes so much sense. I know those songs were massively popular, and of course that's amazing... it allowed BTS to finally reach the top of the charts, break records and establish the existence of a pop powerhouse from Asia for the first time ever. But WHY exactly is it only those songs that were able to break through? Is the American public incapable of enjoying songs that aren't fully in English? Despacito begs to differ. Does the American public only ever listen to bubblegum pop? Were BTS' previous singles so inaccessible? Weird? Lacklustre? Not catchy enough? Surely not. BTS have released banger after banger for a decade, they've charmed 10s of millions of fans on the strength of their music, despite lacking promo. They were already selling out stadiums across the US despite not having a no.1 hit. They already had incredibly high sales in the US for years. So what could the reason be? (I'm stroking my chin and thinking ever so hard right now) Could it possibly have something to do with the fact that when the songs were in Korean, and in more varied genres, US radio refused to play them and US media refused to promo them, and they were purely confined to kpop playlists and kpop media? And once the songs were in English and the genre was bubblegum pop, and hands had finally been shaken with a US label, suddenly they were all over the airwaves and promos were everywhere? I think that had a lot to do with it. I don't think BTS' regular music is unable to go to no.1, I think it's been kept away from no.1 intentionally. Because they were NOT supposed to succeed in the first place, and once it became clear they were going to succeed no matter what, it became important that they only be allowed to do so while boxed into a very narrow image. I sincerely think that if BTS' regular music, the styles they've already been making, with the level of talent and performance skills they have, were actually allowed space and given airtime in the US, they could absolutely be powerhouses on billboard on their own merits with their own image. With enough English sprinkled into the singles so people can sing along, for sure, but they were already doing that. I think SO many people would love their music if only they could hear it in the first place. I sincerely hope once they get out of the military we don't get another 'deal' where they lose creative freedom and follow what American labels want them to do. To be perfectly honest, while a new audience was drawn in by the English songs, a notable amount of the core fandom was driven away, at least temporarily. And a lot of people who could potentially love BTS currently think they're just another cutesy bubblegum boyband, so they have no interest. I think there are whole new audiences they haven't reached yet who would LOVE the kind of music they usually make, the kind of messages they have, the way they perform, and their natural image, it's just a matter of reaching those audiences. I really have faith that at this point in their career, having already 'broken through', that they don't need to fit themselves into a particular mould any more to succeed. I'm sure with the right momentum and promo they'll be able to bring their own creative voices to the top where they belong!
I feel like with this album he was wrapping things up before going the military he had things he wanted to do and had the chance to do them before moving to the next chapter, once he cleared the air RPWP hit him and he put off enlisting because of it.
Yeah i feel similar, i feel like indigo is the build up to rpwp. It feels to me like when you have buried some emotions so deeply in your chest and followed what you think your meant to be doing so long that you have to get rid of the layers first to get to the bottom of it and realize the truth for yourself. So Indigo is him getting the layers of masks of his chest, clearing the air and rpwp is the nitty gritty raw emotion and feelings finally set free. Indigo always feels to me like an album that he thought he should be doing?, it paints this image of him as an artist in this sophisticated way, with his Art eastereggs and colorconcept and the organic feel, it feels very polished and very like him as the leader of BTS. He still talks about critical stuff obvs. cause while it might be polished that doesnt make it necessarily dishonest but is almost apologetic/ dipolomatic in a way? Like in the last track its like c'mon lets not look back any more well see to the future ..its fine we can move on etc. etc. except Change pt.2 feels like the prelude (even tho he still is passive int that one, cause its liek oh yeah, people change, guess its my fault for trusting you etc.) to rpwp, where he then is all like... ACTUALLY let me go back on that i realized i still got shit to say and i think some things haven't been adressed in a way that communicates or is very considered of my feelings. Like in Wildflower where he goes " yeah, me no hero, me no villian i am barely anything" and in rpwp its just straight up: "get yo ass outta trunk" ...im not not a fucking diplomat. ...fucker! 😂 its such a 180° Its almost funny to me but at the same time i get a reaally nice feeling of catharsis for him, cause it feels like he is finally standing up for himself as a person. Like Yass, bro you tell'em, set those healthy boundaries! (sry i keep editing this thing cause i have things to add ^^) Bc. it almost feels tragic to me, he worked himself out. Finally got to the point where he only thought about what he wanted to say without trying to compromise with the culture and enviroment that he exists in (creates this freaking raw masterpiece out of that selfprogression that everyone praises him for as well) and then he is ripped away into military: the flippin definition of societal expectations for korean men in SouthKorea with the strictest rules and structures of conformity and loss of individuality and like giving yourself up for the greater good of this country... So like, i havent seen his documentary and stuff but if he feels even a smidgin of that i understand why he had to go of the map, even for his bandmates, cause i'd be fuming fo this unfairness as well. Like its such bad timing to having to go after so much stuff he worked through in the weeks befor and now he has to put all these revelations into a box and leave it on the shelf in the backroom for 18months ugh. 😫
😅 I just came to see if pt2 was already uploaded... Damn... I love your reactions... Hopping you keep seeing more bts albums... Everyone can have an opinion, like o dislike is an option but, the important thing to see is more people will give them a chance thanks to you... Them are not just kpop... ❤❤❤
Late to the game here. I just really dislike Namjoon's Wildflower being compared and touted as similar to Katy Perry's Fireworks. Wildflower is cathartic, every time I listen to it, there's something inside me that breaks. Katy Perry's Fireworks doesn't have that same reaction. But then to each his own. And please look into how that video was made, those were real traditional Korean fireworks, what they call as Nakhwa Nori, which they hold every May as a prayer for well-being and good year of the people. Also, this album was 4 years in the making. He's been compiling all the music he wanted to do, and it's an exploration of all the things he wanted to try his hand at -- all the sounds he wanted to do and the artists he envisioned in that sound and wanted to collaborate with. Y'all really need to watch his video where he explained how he conceptualised each song and developed it. It's remarkable in that the music he's created is so different from the music he usually writes for BTS. So it really is a record of his 20's up to before he turns 30.
Nonsense. indigo is as much of a masterpicece as RPWP. and you should listen to wat the artists says instead of making "theories". This album is the diary of namjoon's 20s.
@@LynnHermione Nonsense?? LOL so on our first listen you want us to hear it, and not say anything? Then how does this channel work? 🤣🤣 Why would I wait to listen to what someone else has to say before giving what comes to mind when we listen to the music? I swear Also yes, a diary of his 20’s.. his fans would know that but what about a person hearing for the very first time?? To that listener it could sound disjointed vs someone listening who’s been a fan for many years. If I made an album that was a diary of my 20’s it would have many different vibes on it as well, but if you didn’t know me you’d think it sounded all over the place.
@@anitralarae_mahjacat I watched it the moment they uploaded this video and by the time I finished watching, this video has disappeared. I couldn’t find it anymore. I don’t know what happened to it. Thanks for commenting. I thought this video was deleted. 💜

really looove what you are doing in this Chanel 💫
😅 I just came to see if pt2 was already uploaded... Damn... I love your reactions... Hopping you keep seeing more bts albums...
Everyone can have an opinion, like o dislike is an option but, the important thing to see is more people will give them a chance thanks to you... Them are not just kpop... ❤❤❤
That is a real real fire work
Thank you!! 🙏
Thank yiu
Please listening first RM mixtape. It's fire!!!
Is this video shadowbanned HAHAHAHA~ BUT YEAAAH I ENJOYED YOUR CONTENTS LEZZGOOOO FOR MORE
Late to the game here.
@@tessaapostol4688 it wasn’t. Read my pinned comment.
Hectic is city pop. It is a HUGE genre in japan. but in the west people don know it
@@LynnHermione I have vinyl signed by Tatsuro Yamashita.. I’m actually in Japan now.
Wonder how he will relate to Layover.
I think Varnell doesn't know who Tablo is and what he represents for Namjoon.
Are you guys going to react to J Hope's proyects???
have you saw JITB analysis? It's my favorite one I think.
@SleepDeez Not yet, but I'll do . Thanks! Regards!!
@@Gabrielle2027 lmk what you think!
First! :P
bts - hip hop lover
Ok so you were shadow banned?? lol
Nonsense. indigo is as much of a masterpicece as RPWP. and you should listen to wat the artists says instead of making "theories".
I swear
Also yes, a diary of his 20’s.. his fans would know that but what about a person hearing for the very first time?? To that listener it could sound disjointed vs someone listening who’s been a fan for many years. If I made an album that was a diary of my 20’s it would have many different vibes on it as well, but if you didn’t know me you’d think it sounded all over the place.
katy perry??? lol no, flowerworks is a incredibly smart pun and a poignant song
