Umgido WeZangoma: African Spirituality and Culture in Huwana, Plumtree! (Part 2)

Umgido WeZangoma is a customary ceremony whereby izangoma (spiritual healers) from different backgrounds gather together with community members to host a dance ceremony. It usually runs all through the night, at times for days. Shown by the intense dancing and singing routines, ancestors and deities frequently appear amongst the revelers. In recent times, Umgido is becoming less popular due to misconceptions of what it represents. However, in a village known as Huwana located in Plumtree, Zimbabwe. A group of Izangoma have banded together and are determined to revive this eccentric African practice through a cultural ceremony hosted by Nkiwane Foundation.
