  • ► ► This Video:
Umgido WeZangoma is a traditional Zimbabwean ceremony where izangoma (spiritual healers) from diverse backgrounds come together with the community for a night-long, sometimes days-long, dance ceremony. Through the intense dancing and singing, participants are believed to enter a state where they connect with ancestors and deities.
Despite facing misconceptions, Umgido WeZangoma is experiencing a revival thanks to dedicated izangoma in Huwana, a village in Plumtree. Here, a group of izangoma has come together, determined to preserve this unique African practice. Led by the Nkiwane Foundation, they are hosting cultural ceremonies to revive Umgido WeZangoma.

► ► ABOUT MAGRIZA MADE ME COOK
The channel seeks to document and serve Africa's diverse food culture, one dish at a time as well as air other cultural and traditional stories that have never been documented. Magriza is slang for uGogo (Grandmother in isiNdebele) and the name of the show is derived from Prince's inspiration for falling in love with cooking; his grandmother.

This brought back so many memories from my childhood 😢
My grandmother used to take me to these almost every month and the whole night would feel so wholesome so watching this made me tear up because these gatherings always felt like home, I felt whole and like I belonged. Thank you so much Prince and each and everyone that contributed to making this masterpiece.

Hard hitting documentary, and subtitling viz "...intense dancing and singing routines, ancestors and deities frequently appear among the revelers.." is corroborated by on the spot, spot the evidence type evidence appearing top centre of frame @ 10:46 to 10:49. Well done Magriza and PSM. Hopefully the future Anthropologists and Historians of my people will have enough data to view and be inspired by this your work and the very essence of the spirituality of the people (read as abantu).
