Have you ever tried to lift a super single hub and tyre out of a wheel box in the back of a semi trailer and then put the flat one back now that's bloody hard in the heat of the Australian summer 😂
In many ways an on the axle job is easier especially for the outside tires. It's those inside ones that take more time. When your job is busting tires you do it any way you have to, sometimes it's easy, sometimes it's not. It always never matters.
Nice of some of these people to show their ignorance when it comes to doing a job they have never done. The drop center or well as some have called it is the same on both sides of an aluminum wheel so you can take the tire off either side. On a steel wheel the drop center or well is offset to one side and the the tire is supposed to come off that side. The yellow tool was a third hand or called a pineapple, don't know he got it out and didn't use it. It works like the vise grips do, but has a rubber coating to keep from scratching the wheel. I was wondering why he put a drive tire on a trailer too, but sometimes you gotta work with what you have.

Stupid question but i know on a car or truck the tires have to be balanced do they on a semi? How do they not have to be? That’s kinda cool they they don’t
In perspective every tire or component that spins needs to be balanced ... however for semi truck dully tires is better to use a balancing bag if you want it balanced. And super singles ???... I only do road side assistance and have no idea if a balancing machine will handle it 😁
Dismounting and remounting a tire from the wrong side of the rim stretches and damages the bead therefore weakening the tire. If this were a normal dual setup this would have been ok because the drop center of the rim is centered and they can be removed from either side however that is not normally the case with a super single and looks as that wasn't the case with this rim. I can almost guarantee at some point in this tires life there will be issues with the bead or the sidewall near the bead. I do this professionally for a living and the small effort it would have taken to remove the rim from the vehicle is well worth it. I am glad to see they didn't do the morons bead seating method and use either, I was waiting for that as it would have just been the icing on the cake so to speak.
First of all you don't clamp a pair of vice grips on an aluminum rim and second you always clean the rim and change the valve garment or the whole valve that's how you get away with cutting corners and coming back with a bead leak or valve leak later on down the road
I do this exactly the same way. Usually takes me about 15 minutes though from arrival at the job till the tire is mounted and airing up. Any time that can be saved without having to remove the rim is a good thing TIA approved or not is irrelevant in the real world.
Na I do tires for a living I know people who have worked for my same company and took short cuts and didn’t go home to there kids I take the literal extra 10 mins to take it off the unit and check for cording so I don’t die and who knows maybe sell a wheel and make some more money!
When you put vice grips on the rim put a cloth in between so you don't scratch the rim not that it's a real huge deal but some drivers are really picky. Did pretty damn good otherwise.
'Peeling" is what this is called its also a way to get sued if the truck has a wheel off situation down the road ....also if you look closer he damages the rim ...aluminum rims tend to bend easier when this method is done ...so basically this is puts all travelers who on the road near this trailer in danger of being killed
I don't think he bent it at all lol😂 yes they are aluminum but those tires were not stiff enough at all to have that much pressure and bend. He could have used a rag or something to bot scratch them but I doubt it bent at all.

I can only imagine how heavy they are. Even the 235/85/16 trailer tires I have done are freaking heavy for what they are. They are only rated to 90 PSI as well I believe. Heaviest I have changed were 37x13.5x20s. Something like 86 pounds each, rims were around 36 pounds each. HEAVY!

Thumping tires has long been a disproven way to check tire pressure. It has no precision to it.
Sir Nicholas D ,
When I was a child, early 1970s, they used to sell precision tuned thumping sticks or rods to truck drivers. They had all the precision and accuracy of doing brain surgery with a chainsaw and an inebriated monkey. One of greatest wallet emptying gimmicks ever created.
Sir Nicholas D ,
Sad. I saw some tractor-trailer tire safety videos that concentrated trailer tire safety. The videos discussed all the ways that poorly inflated or poorly matched tires might lead to tread separation. One of the ways to significantly reduce the probability of tread separation was to use a eight port balancing air manifold with air lines going to all eight trailer tires. You then did a simultaneous fill and pressure check on all the tires at one time.
There are obviously a lot of other factors that can create trailer tire tread separation issues: Damaged axles, bent axles, misaligned wheels, bad bearings, etcetera, but failure to accurately and precisely balance trailer tire pressure was seen as a large percentage probable cause for trailer tire tread separations and blowouts.
