  • Ever wonder how pop tarts are made? Me too, and I have no idea. So instead I made my own homemade fancy poptarts so that you too can make them too. It's easy to make, you don't need a ton of special equipment and there are unlimited filling options, and unlimited possibilities.

      actually, toaster strudels use a different dough, one similar to puff pastry. this video is correct in that pop tarts are, well, a tart/pie. i'd hesitate in calling them a tart because they're closed, which I believe most tarts lack a top crust.

    I skipped most of the steps and just used store bought pie dough, filled it with peach and apricot preserves. I've never burnt my tongue so bad in my life. It was a good hurt tho.

    Yes!!! I love pop tarts at night but I never want to go out and get them. I'm going to make a bunch of them and freeze them. That way I can pop them out and bake them when I want 🤗

    Thanks so much for making this! I love pop tarts and the ones at the store have soy in them, which I’m allergic to. I didn’t realize how simple they were to make. Now I can enjoy pop tarts again! ☺️

    Made these today and oh. my. god. So flakey. So yummy. I tinted the icing pink for the cherry and slight brown for sugar-cinnamon so I could tell them apart. These are now in my baking rotation. 👍🏻

    I made chocolate bannock and to me, it tasted like the edges of the poptart with no icing or filling.

    Honestly, I have a GF (gluten free) kid, and being a professional cook myself I am looking for a decent bread recipe that doesn't have three basic problems.
    1. The ingredients have to be cheap and easily repeatable. No specialty products that have to be gotten from a chemist.
    2. Many rice flour based breads stick to the teeth, and can actually cause more rapid tooth decay. So as little rice flour as possible, or at least finding a way to keep it from being so sticky.
    3. Having a sponginess similar to bread without using too much Xanthan gum. Xanthan gum is a derivative of corn, and my other kiddo, of course, is allergic to corn.
    I know that's a lot to ask, but honestly, your videos are easy to follow, I've used many of your recipes at work, and have gotten lots of compliments from them. I just want to be able to share some of what you do in my own home, and right now, that's what we're lacking.

      The thing that has been really eye opening for me is that my kiddo has gotten to try (for the first time) all of the things that most people take for granted. I made a batch of chocolate chip cookies once, and hearing "is this what this is supposed to taste like? Because its amazing!" That is a thing that I want to hear again and again, not just as a Dad, but as a professional cook as well.

      Have they tried "chipa" (or "cheese bums" I think would be a more or less accurate translation)? They are made from manioc starch and are some of the best things in the world. And gluten-free. It's not technically "bread" but...

      It would be great with braised beef short rib inside and then finished with melted parmesan on top. Serve with different kinds of dipping sauces like a chimichurri, salsa verde, or dip into melted cheese if you want to be real crazy.

    I used margin instead of butter and It worked pretty well!! If anyone else wants to use margin instead of butter, make sure to NOT use any water in the dough or it'll be too mushy. Also, it would be way better to use real butter for the brown sugar mix because otherwise, it will completely melt out of your pop tart while baking.

    Hi Joshua. I've been a subscriber for quite a while now. I have tried many of your recipes including your marshmallows and fudge. Now, I will be shooting for these pop tarts. Thank you so much for turning 'store' bought goodies into 'homemade' goodies just like that. When you make them, the recipes are so flipping simple I don't buy these foods in the grocery store anymore. Why should I. Don't stop what you're doing, ever!! lol

    I just made this, but I let the dough sit in the fridge overnight and did two three-folds before rolling it out. They ended up flaky AF! Almost like a puff pastry. Most definitely my new go-to recipe.

    Here's an idea for a video: Pizza Bowls (easier than it sounds, basically make a pizza but before baking it, place it into a large bowl that can withstand high temperatures and bake it in that. When you pull it out of the oven, wait for it to cool and then carefully use a knife to separate the crust from the bowl all the way around the bowl.)
    So, I heard this idea from a friend but I haven't tried it myself. It might turn out well and it might not. I can't make any guarantees

    I love your recipes because you always use volume and the exact weight of ingredients instead of just using Google or something to convert them. I've used too many recipes where I've used the gram measurements in brackets in the recipe and it's just failed cause it's the wrong amounts.

    You can put cherries with a skewer or a chopstick. Just grab a plastic bottle, put the cherries on top with the stem area facing upward, and poke through the top, pushing the pit out.

    I like that you kneaded the dough in the bowl. Never understood why you would mess up your counter just to lightly knead dough.
