    I come late to the party. But as they say, "Better late than never". This piece is very well done. Actually it's better than very well done. 👍👍I think I like three sided better than four sides. It provides for a larger window. It's nice that you allowed for either your flame or a tea light. I also prefer the flame. But if I turn one like this I will make it to go both ways too. Thank you for sharing. Have a great day and stay safe.🙂🙂

    Very nice piece. I like the idea of a 3 piece inside out turning as opposed to the traditional 4. I prefer the insert to the light only because you didn’t recess the light. If light was installed above the insert that would have been very nice.

    • @ThePapa1947
      @ThePapa1947  2 года назад

      Thank you Jay and I agree with using the wood candle. The light was an after thought and I will be doing another where the light can be recessed. And if I can find what I am looking for it should be pretty cool.

      I remember when I bought our first computer a 486 with Windows 3. I was afraid to turn it on. Within a year I was building and repairing computers for family and friends. Matter of fact I have not bought one since. But as much as I loved working on them then I have sort of lost my interest. Even to the point of it is time for me to upgrade mine but I think I will just buy one instead of building.

    Nice job. I don’t have a 3 jaw chuck but I have used 2 of 4 jaws for small pieces. I prefer the wood flame over the LED

    • @ThePapa1947
      @ThePapa1947  2 года назад

      Thank you Greg and I prefer the wood flame as well.
      I was just going to put a piece of wood in the chuck and drill a hole to fit the stem then went with the 3 jaw chuck. I do have some jaws that will go down that small and I almost swapped them out .

    Hi Gary, beautiful ornament, I pretty much will always favour wood over technology. That being said, the little LED is not at all unattractive. I have made several inside out Christmas tree ornaments for friends and family (25 this past Christmas) but have always used four segments. My take away is to try 3, 5 and 6 before I go into production for next Christmas season. Thanks so much for sharing, cheers Gord.

    • @ThePapa1947
      @ThePapa1947  2 года назад +1

      Thank you Gord. I had always done 4 myself and decided 3 would be fun. And 6 was real easy because the same pieces for 3 work for 6. So many options and so much fun.
      Take care,
      Gary

    Instead of gluing the segments, another turner makes endcaps that hold the segments very snugly. He says it's much faster than gluing and pulling them apart. I think that might be important for production runs, but for one-offs it might be more work than it's worth.

    • @ThePapa1947
      @ThePapa1947  2 года назад +1

      I have seen many use the blocks and we actually had drive centers at work similar so they have been around for 50 years that I know of. Problem is you are stuck with the same size pieces and if you want other sizes you need to make the endcaps to do them. In production yes it could be faster.
      I think we are talking minutes at the most. Plus I had 3 sides not 4 so that is a whole new endcap.
      I could have fit them in a 4 jaw chuck as well. Lots of ways to do it.
      Thanks for watching.
