Paul Simon was at that performance and when asked what he thought of Elvis's performance of the song. Paul said he was going home and hang his guitar on the wall because there was no way he was going to be able to out perform Elvis's performance, ever. Bless his heart. 😊
Elvis never wanted his tickets to be too expensive. He wanted them so that anyone who wished to see him could. His ticket prices ranged from $10.00 to $15.00. that's it!!!
When Elvis covers a song it becomes his. There is a reason he is declared the King of Rock-n-roll, his voice, his showmanship and stage presence, his band and back up singers when you went to an Elvis concert you never left feeling you did not get your moneys worth. As a child growing up where my mom was a huge Elvis Fan his music was a regular staple in our household. I cannot hear Elvis and not think about my mom and as she passed long ago it is a happy/sad memory at the same time.
Paul Simon of Simon and Garfunkel who wrote and had a number 1 hit with this song gave Elvis the ultimate compliment he said after hearing Elvis sings this, I don’t ever want to sing it again

You can find some footage on Utube . He most definitely arranges things the way he wants . In fact go watch the rehearsal footage and how he reprimanded the quartet or horns I cannot remember. He stopped several times in fact for them to get it like he liked . So watch the rehearsal footage and then go watch this live performance. Heading towards the end of the performance you will see Elvis give a look over his shoulder after he says silver silver girl. He knows something is still off over there and gives that look. Then he finishes this song and at the end is motioning his hand for them to come on with it. By the way, I watch a lot of Elvis. TCB⚡️

One mention, too, is that although Elvis didn't write songs, he produced them and often had a vision in his head of what he wanted. Therefore, he worked with his piano player in putting together arrangements, such is what you see here. It's why I think he's one of the most underrated producers in history. August 11th 1970 Dinner show this is the gold standard of this song. Actually the 2nd time live. He did it again 5 hours later at the midnight show. But the Dinner show that night is considered the best ever. He did this song at about 8:30 that night an again about 1:30 in the morning.
Great reaction. Thank you for doing this and great observations. This is Paul Simon's favorite cover of this song. Of Elvis's interpretation, Simon stated (paraphrase) "How the hell am I supposed to match that?" Elvis not only shows off his range and dynamic control, but also his ability to convey emotion with his entire performance. The musical arrangement is also so key to the effectiveness of this performance. Bravo to the piano player (Glen Hardin), the orchestra and the backup singers who provide a gospel flair.
Great reaction, I hope you can catch my favorite, in the black leather, "Trying to Get to You" from the 68 comeback special. Also, "Memories" and of course the opening number, "Trouble/Guitar Man, again thanks for keeping his memory alive. Be Blessed

Elvis had differents eras (much like The BeeGees!❤) - do Jailhouse Rock (1956 or so), Treat me Nice. Then he went to the Army - excellent on Frank Sinatra show - great harmonies with Sinatra (stay for Stuck on you); then movies (some good songs like Crawfish, Don’t be Cruel, Trouble, Return to Sender, Can’t help falling in love, GI Blues); 1968 Cmback Special is golden (start with Trying to get to you) and then 1970-73 Las Vegas - Just Pretend is a must, How Great thou art, Why me Lord. There are lovely duets between him and his daughter, like Don’t cry Daddy, In the ghetto, Where no one stands alone. Thank goodness for technology.❤

Great reaction. As you guys watch more live Elvis videos, you will notice he kind of "morphs" in the shows. He will joke around in between songs, but when the song begins, you see him fall into "the zone" His focus becomes on drawing every bit of emotion he has into the song he is performing.
No other singer has drawn me so deep into their music. And I only have had a few singers I would put at the Top. Elvis was #1. Of course, Karen Carpenter and Dolores O'Riordan are my other 2 favorites of all time. He put all he had into it. If anyone has ever tried to sing one of these songs the way he, did they would see. How much he put into it. He makes you want to sing it.
Here is an excerpt from a story that includes an interview with Paul Simon about what he thought of Elvis' version of his song "Bridge Over Troubled Water’ has been recorded by over 500 different artists since its first release, with everybody from Johnny Cash to Stevie Wonder reimagining the classic track in their own guise. For Paul Simon, however, the song’s creator, Elvis Presley’s version sits comfortably in a league of its own." "Simon was startled to discover that Elvis had taken on a song he’d written, although he did say it was a “touch on the dramatic side, but so was the song”. He continued, stating: “When I first heard Elvis perform ‘Bridge Over Troubled Water’, it was unbelievable. I thought to myself: ‘How the hell can I compete with that?'”
As commented below, Paul Simon said "How the hell am I supposed to match that?" I was privileged to get to hear Elvis live in the early 70's. Speaking of the price of tickets, my first Elvis concert had me driving with my boyfriend from Nashville to Louisville, KY, and the ticket. cost $10! You had to find out early, though, when the tickets would go on sale or they would sell out. There was no internet back then, and no cable TV. One of my teacher friends, knowing I had been an Elvis fan since early childhood, told me ahead of time that she had heard about the upcoming performance in Louisville that would be advertised the next day in the Sunday paper, and she urged me to order the tickets right then, which I did. Our seats were on the floor, and of course, there was a frenzy when Elvis came out and mostly what I remember is that everyone stood up, of course, and I could not see over them. Back then they did not have the screens to show close ups of the performer. I was able to see him two more times in my hometown of Nashville, but one of my biggest regrets today is that I never saw him live, in Vegas, in a more intimate setting. I would go in a heartbeat today, but back then I was a young, sheltered, Southern, single schoolteacher, and getting on a plane, flying to Vegas, and staying in a hotel is something I just would not have done back then, and surely could not afford. I have gone to Vegas to see several performers now, but it just never occurred to me to go to Vegas at that time. Yes, I do regret that, but am happy I did get to see him live three times, and I am thankful for the videos so I can experience his Vegas performances , his TV performances again, and for all the new young fans, like yourself, he is gaining from these videos. Keep in mind there was no autotune, and Elvis wore himself out performing in Vegas, always doing two shows a night, and sometimes three. It has been said that no one performs that much in Vegas now. Elvis has also, today, been described as a musical servant. I welcome you to the world of Elvis; he deserves all of these new fans. His music was everything to him. He took part in all the arrangements, and it has been said he was actually his own producer. His backup singers and band members knew to watch him at all times. There are classes taught in some universities about the Elvis phenomenon, but suffice it to say he was the first ever entertainer listened to by both black and white audiences. Before then, White people listened to white performers, and black people only listened to black performers. Elvis was white, but had the unique black sound. Elvis feared he would never be remembered. Not so! He is getting many young fans today who recognize his unique talent! RIP, Elvis. Job well done!
Elvis is the king his voice was so beautiful that everything he did was awesome he brings tears to my eyes singing so many beautiful songs wish he had lived longer

Y'all need to check out What Now My Love by Elvis 73 Aloha concert.
To go where the brave dare not go... That is just what he musically was! He stood in big boots of musicbusines and did it his way! He is best there ever was or will be!!!❤❤❤🇫🇮
This is my request for my funeral song. Soo beautiful. You guys are engaging so I subscribed to your channel.
You have picked a good one for your service my friend. I probably won't have a funeral since I really have no family close to me anymore but if I did it would be the song Caledonia by Celtic Thunder. If you like Celtic music and haven't heard it, please check it out here on YT and the video from The Show.
The GREATEST EVER !!! The AMAZING EVOLUTION of this man from 1954 until the end in 1977 is TRULY REMARKABLE & UNWORLDLY !!!

Rip Lisa Marie 😇🕊️
Rip Elvis 😇🕊️
And this is why Elvis is, and always will be, The King!!!
Here is an excerpt from a story that includes an interview with Paul Simon about what he thought of Elvis' version of his song
"Bridge Over Troubled Water’ has been recorded by over 500 different artists since its first release, with everybody from Johnny Cash to Stevie Wonder reimagining the classic track in their own guise. For Paul Simon, however, the song’s creator, Elvis Presley’s version sits comfortably in a league of its own."
"Simon was startled to discover that Elvis had taken on a song he’d written, although he did say it was a “touch on the dramatic side, but so was the song”.
If you want to hear the power of his voice, listen to him. Do a song called hurt you will not be disappointed
