Yeah, Colonel Tom Parker was just looking for all excuses he can to make sure he has enough dough off the 50% cut he took of Elvis' earnings to feed his stupid gambling addiction, and never really cared about society status once in his entire pathetic life of deceit. loved it! Elvis Presley and The Black Community was one of the best documentary was one of the best and insight that brought true truth that i have ever seen!
This was the closing song of his 1968 "Comeback" Special. What the special did was give a retrospect of his career, and say he was leaving the movies and would tour and do Vegas.
Elvis is one of the best singers that has ever lived. He was also a fabulous entertainer. There is a reason he is called "The King". He had a great voice & could sing anything whether it was ballads, gospel or rock. This song "If I Can Dream" was a tribute to Martin Luther King after his assassination.
Elvis has such “power” in his voice. He had a very iconic, distinct, fast rolling vibrato. Many voice experts have said that helped give his voice power.
Everything in this performance has a purpose. The song itself was written by Earl Brown, inspired by Dr. Martin Luther King’s speech I Have a Dream. The song was written with Elvis in mind & it’s a tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Mr. Brown was aware of Elvis’s love for Dr. King. He also knew that Elvis was devastated by the news of Dr. King’s assassination. Just 9 miles away from Graceland (Elvis’s home). The white suit was also worn to accompany the song’s dream for better days. At the time, the conflict in Vietnam was heart wrenching. In remembrance, of the lives lost during the Vietnam war. The burgundy colored scarf Elvis wore around his neck, was for them.
Still popular to this day, even with kids as young 5Yr. MLK & JFK tribute he was suppose to sing a Christmas song but at the last minute Elvis asked if someone could write him something else & well this is it.
I love the movie "3,000 miles to graceland". Kurt Russell, Kevin Costner & a few of their friends rob a casino in Las Vegas during an Elvis convention. Kurt does a great impersonation.
I remember this like it was yesterday. When the performance was over we sat in silence and looked at each other. 68 was a tough year we lost RFK and MLK and Vietnam was full blown. We needed this song and the world needs it again. It truly resonated with us then and still does today.
Elvis hated being called «The King». He did not believe he was bigger, better or more worth than anyone. «There is room for everyone», he said in a press conference in 1972. Humble to the core, despite his on-stage persona and image.
Elvis took a lot of flack from the racists and bigots of the day, and there were lots! People going on TV and trying to boycott his music and saying he was working with the Devil because of his music which was influenced greatly by hie faith , gospel, Hume’s and The many black influences he had went growing up! He related to black America because they were dirt poor and lived and went to church with many blacks and he saw them as neighbours and friends and did not understand the hate and fear! It broke his heart and contributed to his eventual addictions and slowly giving up !
When God created my friend Elvis he was just showing off. I can't tell you how much i love and miss him, there is not a day that goes by that i don't think of him and all the memories we made in 10 short years, his death knocked the wind out of me the funeral was terrible it broke me. i have never been the same since, Elvis was the big brother i never had. He is also my guardian angel. Graceland is my go to place when it get's to hard to live w/o my friend i go there and walk around and remember Elvis and all the beautiful times we had together. He was the only person in my life that understood me and cared about my feelings and opinions. What it comes down to is we both needed a true friend and we were that for each other. God bless you and your family from the one and only Memphis Tn
I was 1 yr old when this song came out.. I was 10 when Elvis passed away... I remember my Mom going into mourning when Elvis died.. she made me and my sister tape every radio tribute... and I remember this being my favorite... I still never got the meaning to this song until I was in HS... it's a deep and powerful message...and still my favorite...my next fav is probably one of his more upbeat songs.... Little Less Conversation...
Sad that this message is still relevant today.💞 I grew up listening to Elvis and watching all the movies he did when I could afford it.😉💞🎼 Great reaction.👍🏼🤗🎼
Appreciate this is a year old now but you should check out the whole 1968 Comeback Special from where this vjdeo came. There is huge historical significance for your country contained within this song and if you've watched the most recent Elvis film it explains why
Def an activist in his own way. He had played a few places that didn’t welcome his black background singers. He wouldn’t play the venue unless they were welcomed. Elvis loved everyone equally. What a great man so many years ago. We need more like him even today. This performance moves me even to this day and I’ve seen it hundreds of times.
I'm afraid Elvis Presley fans to which I am one, are the most loyal fans in the world, we will defend him to the death, he'd be 88 years old now. I fell in love with him in 1961 when I was 14 years old and I'll tell you it never leaves you, I'm British. Well done and keep up the good work ❤
Finally, I subscribed. Great reaction you got this one right. Maybe the most significant and timely social justice song ever performed by anyone. After his friend MLK was assassinated, Elvis defied his manager, NBC executives and their sponsors to deliver this message..

@@carolhayar3037 Yes absolutely, but without the songwriter's Dr Martin Luther King and the civil rights movement influence and the overriding message of Peace and Integration, this song would not have been written. The link? Robert Kennedy and MLK were icons of the civil rights movement.

Remember this was his comeback from years away making movies. He was himself worried he had been away from singing too long. And racial tensions were extremely high in 1968, not to mention anti Vietnam protests, Bobby Kennedy was also asassinated...this song was a HUGE risk & his manager advised against it. Elvis had his flaws but the man definitely had guts. RIP Elvis 🙏 You are still remembered & missed!❤
Well I'm old enough to have lived thru & remember 1968. It has to have been one of the most turbulent years in US history. We have come a long way since then..not all good, not all bad. We need more real leaders teaching the truth & peace rather than all the haters, pot stirrers, & glorified violence. IMHO the media & false leaders gain $ & power from throwing fuel on the hate. Wish we had true leaders like MLK & RK. But Sadly we don't or the haters are drowning them out. I wonder if that's why RK's legacy seems to be fading...just a thought 🤔
The was written for Elvis. Elvis expressed his thoughts to the song writer. This song and performance was put together in about 24 hours. The Colonel insisted Here Comes Santa Claus would closed show but Elvis had no intention to do that.
This was one of the most iconic as well as controversial performances of the time. This was his true heart and soul. This needs to be our national anthem. Rest in peace to the GOAT ❤❤❤❤❤

Hi guys , I love your reaction this I, there are so so many sides of ELVIS , he's the only artists in 5music Hall of Fame, and is relevance to music is everlasting, he's got more fan clubs today than any other artists in history, the house he lived in Memphis Tennessee is Graceland , a national landmark visited by more than 500.000people a year from all over the world and he never performed outside of the USA. , except for a few in Canada , he also served his country at the height of his career , like anybody else, and did two years in Germany , no performing while there , just serving our country. He has sold more records than any other artists in history and that's saying a hell of a lot for a Man who has been gone for 45yrs, I wish you would dive into the Elvis journey and discover the Magic of this beautiful man, Total Package, owns the stage and always has fun with it. loved it! Elvis Presley and The Black Community was one of the best documentary was one of the best and insight that brought true truth that i have ever seen!
I love your reactions! Thank you also for your love of Elvis. I’ve seen him twice in concert. He is the greatest ever!!
Amazing!
Amazing reaction. Feel the passion and emotion of his voice. More please 💕💕💕💕
Thank you!! It was amazing!
اعظم فنان على مر العصور لم ولن يتكرر الملك بدون منازع
This was one of my top songs from Elvis when it was released, such a powerful vocal performance,,,
Agreed!
Elvis felt it in his heart he wanted peace and help other people
Many have tried even to play him in the movie and did a decent job but there will always be just one Elvis Presley 👍
greatest song and performance of all time
This was the 1968 special tv show…excellent performances in this special. You guys should do more from this show
Elvis is an Icon. H may be gone but he will never be forgotten! Love your reactions!
He has many sides. I appreciate all of them as I see yall do. He has a spiritual side that is very rooted in his soul.
No matter how many times I hear this song, it chokes me up every single time
One of my favorites from Elvis. Always has been and always will be.
Elvis has such “power” in his voice. He had a very iconic, distinct, fast rolling vibrato. Many voice experts have said that helped give his voice power.
Look at his face and body he was willing it to happen
Kurt does a great impersonation.
this is the greatest vocal ever.. Elvis greatest voice ever to sing
The king did hundreds of concerts for charity. His estate still gives. He has a Elvis house where you can stay for free for a year in Tennessee.
One of his best emotional inspirational songs so much emotion and feeling .
I remember this like it was yesterday. When the performance was over we sat in silence and looked at each other. 68 was a tough year we lost RFK and MLK and Vietnam was full blown. We needed this song and the world needs it again. It truly resonated with us then and still does today.
Thanks for mentioning Kennedy & Vietnam also
Elvis delivers a strong message through a Powerful Performance!!!
Many could probably write the music but only Elvis could really tell the story! Forever the 👑 King....
Elvis hated being called «The King». He did not believe he was bigger, better or more worth than anyone. «There is room for everyone», he said in a press conference in 1972. Humble to the core, despite his on-stage persona and image.
Elvis para mim é o maior cantor de todos os tempos 👏👏👏👏👏
I agree!
This song will ALWAYS be relevant in this tumultuous world we live in.
The network didn’t know Elvis was going to do this song, they thought he was going to do a Christmas song instead!
Absolutely unbelievable Performance 👏 brings tears to my eyes every time 😢
great voice
Sad that this message is still relevant today.💞 I grew up listening to Elvis and watching all the movies he did when I could afford it.😉💞🎼 Great reaction.👍🏼🤗🎼
Appreciate this is a year old now but you should check out the whole 1968 Comeback Special from where this vjdeo came. There is huge historical significance for your country contained within this song and if you've watched the most recent Elvis film it explains why
What a talent!! Elvis could really deliver! He always gave his all! The GOAT!!!
Well done and keep up the good work ❤
Thx :)
Finally, I subscribed. Great reaction you got this one right. Maybe the most significant and timely social justice song ever performed by anyone. After his friend MLK was assassinated, Elvis defied his manager, NBC executives and their sponsors to deliver this message..
As per producer-director Steve Binder's interview, the song also encompassed the assassination of Robert Kennedy + the world's problems @ time. They had the TV on @ time when Robert Kennedy was assassinated after seeing the news of the assassination, Binder & Elvis sat up until 4 a.m. talking everything over w-Elvis expressing his thoughts & feelings -- Binder asked Earl Brown to compose a song based on those discussions & was loosely based on King's speech. The red tie was for the blood shed in Vietnam.
@@carolhayar3037 Yes absolutely, but without the songwriter's Dr Martin Luther King and the civil rights movement influence and the overriding message of Peace and Integration, this song would not have been written. The link? Robert Kennedy and MLK were icons of the civil rights movement.
@@depper i guess it just surprises me that more people don't know about all that was involved, not the very young perhaps, but there are so any people who grew up w-E & at that time in history; anyway, there are many interviews w-Binder, a very interesting story teller; "VR&PS: Steve Binder interview on WFDU" ruclips.net/video/AlTX6guutes/видео.html approx. 44:00; "Harvey Brownstone Interviews 'Elvis ‘68 Comeback Special' Legendary Producer/Director Steve Binder" ruclips.net/video/cnnllR0q2zM/видео.html approx. 32:45; “Gates of Graceland: Secrets of the ’68 Special” ruclips.net/video/IZuVaRJZwcY/видео.html approx.19:40; #'s are approximate because ea. time i watch them, the #'s come up a little differently for some reason
Elvis changed the world!
A powerful song, that is performed to perfection.
I saw him four times. That 68 special was incredible. Best artist I have ever seen.
Talent, swagger, soul, etc the whole package.
Truly the King 🫡
Nobody sang with more emotion, passion or feeling than Elvis. Nobody.
Smile for real wow unbelievable, Elvis was the king is she fr
Remember this was his comeback from years away making movies. He was himself worried he had been away from singing too long. And racial tensions were extremely high in 1968, not to mention anti Vietnam protests, Bobby Kennedy was also asassinated...this song was a HUGE risk & his manager advised against it. Elvis had his flaws but the man definitely had guts. RIP Elvis 🙏 You are still remembered & missed!❤
Thx for mentioning Kennedy - he's hardly ever mentioned as part of this.
Elvis wore many different outfits and his music varied just as much. The young Elvis……damn. Dude could sing, the whole package.
❤ Class of 71 ❤
Vietnam era,honor,society,assassinations,etc.
The was written for Elvis. Elvis expressed his thoughts to the song writer. This song and performance was put together in about 24 hours. The Colonel insisted Here Comes Santa Claus would closed show but Elvis had no intention to do that.
This song should be played after then National Anthem, it rings true today!!
ELVIS was phenomenol! He was, is, and always will be the KING of ROCK and ROLL! This song was a masterpiece! 😢
This was one of the most iconic as well as controversial performances of the time. This was his true heart and soul. This needs to be our national anthem. Rest in peace to the GOAT ❤❤❤❤❤
You said it. Iconic.
A great reaction done with a considerable depth of understanding. As others have said he was the complete package, and as one fairly new reactor said recently - for whatever the reason, he somehow draws one in like a magnet.
Thank you! Appreciate the feedback & glad you enjoyed it!
Try reacting to Elvis singing Just Pretend, and Bridge over Troubled Water as well as How Great Thou Art in 72, and finally react to Elvis singing Suspicious mindsi in Las Vegas 1970, your going to see the many different sides of ELVIS , no one since or ever can compare to what he accomplished in such a short time.. . Thanks for the reaction. TCB 1935
Glad you enjoyed it! Thanks for all the information! We're going down the Elvis journey further, that's for sure! In the meantime we have already done the 1970 Suspicious Minds performance that you can check out! Find it in the playlist here:

@@barsandbarbells2022 Thanks for getting back to me, I am sorry I did see the first reaction, just had forgot, glad you are going to stay on the Elvis journey, He's a Man or many talents. TCB 1935
I grew up on Elvis, my sisters played his stuff all the time. Have always loved him and still do 68 yrs later. I am a man also.
I'm 69, I saw Elvis live in Louisville, KY, when I was 16. He put on an amazing show! Listen to his Trilogy and In the Ghetto.
Elvis wasn't supposed to sing this in the 68 Special, but he " fought" for it!(insisted) It was written just for HIM to sing! EXCELLENT choice
ELVIS IS EVERYWHERE
To understand Elvis and his music better you need to watch "Elvis and the Black Community" and then the movie, "Elvis", that just came out a few months ago.
There is so much to the man and his music. Although he didn't write his own music, he covered songs that meant something to him.
Elvis has a treasure trove of music and movies, so jump down that rabbit hole.
Love and respect Elvis. This was performed for live tv show the government still looking to hurt Elvis you should watch the echo will never die documentary and the generous heart. Did you know Elvis never took any deductions when filing taxes
I was friends with Charlie Hodge his confidant and best friend for years after Elvis died n he told me that when he finished the song n went back stage he cried. Oh yes they first had him wear just the white suit but Elvis wanted to add the red scarf to represent the blood that was shed in assassinations of both MLK N JFK. I love your reactions n ignore the negative comments
The best performer. Ever.
