  • As a Hairdresser its Really important to venture out and try new techniques and methods.. Cotton Painting Is Kinda FUN... I like the technique for certain types of coloring.. For root touch ups.. I actually prefer using Foils or My Foams... I used Redken Flash Lift with 20 Vol. Glazed with Shades EQ 09RB & 09G! I hope you enjoyed this video!

Thank you Woman! This is the video I have been searching high and low for! I am going to be doing my roots on my own and no no other video addresses how to just do roots. You’re truly an out-of-the-box thinker. I love the cotton & clips method because I visualized something simple like that. There’s all these these fancy products on the market to separate hair; the mesh, papers, Saran Wrap, or foils are above my skill set & seem like a colossal mess. I also love the fact you’re using bleach versus some fancy clay lighter and a simple color brush & board! Only thing I could think of for myself is I’m naturally very dark so I’m not sure if not using foils will impact but I’ll try the saran wrap idea.

I remember seeing this technique in beauty school (I did esthetics, not hair) but I think it's because they didn't want the liability of a scalp bleach/burn. Except it was nowhere near as neat as yours. Haha! But I love how it turned out on her!

I was born blonde just like this young lady, however, my hair got much darker over the years. I started highlighting in my hair in my 30's. So when I saw this video I was like wow, the grass really is always greener.

I think lightening the roots was not a good idea; she is already a level 8.5/9. If the client wanted dimension, those roots would have been part of it. I honestly think having a lengthy root looks better and intentional, provided that it is light enough to transition into the lighter ends. She will have a shorter length of root showing in 10-15 days and it will look worse. Shadow roots are the rage nowadays, and the client had natural shadow roots which did not look bad at all; what more can one want? I don't know, but this missed the mark, as soon as I saw those roots were being lightened.

Hey Mandie! First off, love your videos so educational and easy to follow. Second, I was curious if you had a favorite formula for toning the Orange/brassy tones out of your brunettes you take blonde? I have yet to find one that works extremely well and curious if you have found one you wouldn't mind sharing! Thank you!

To be honest with you. I think it look awesome! If you where to do this again what would you do differently? Would you possibly up the volume of the developer for a stronger blonde. Or did technique make it soft around the root so it doesn't matter how blonde you went with the lightener?

Hi Mandie! My hair is balayaged to a golden blonde that is very warm in some places. I am planning on bringing the blonde up to platinum, but I'm afraid it won't look good! I'm not sure what skin tone I have. If this helps I tan pretty easily after the first few times (I burn the first 2 or 3 times tanning), I have freckles, and natural light brown hair! Also, would it be fairly easy to go back to the golden blonde I have now if I wanted?! Thank you so much in advance!

    • @ThatBlondeGirlMandie

Being a stickler for the English vernacular, hearing the mispronunciation of the word "coTTon" is like nails on a chalkboard. The word is "coT-Ton" NOT "caw-en". Love your personality...love the color technique...cant stand the mispronunciation of a simple word. So...for future reference...practice these words: coT-Ton, kiT-Ten, miT-Ten, moun-Tain. Thanks. Nice job on the hair, btw.
