The writers of this show are villains lol
Even though you know that Oz is a villain you're supposed to root for in a show made to pit him against other horrible mobsters: You now want Batman to womp his ass even harder because Oz is somehow an even more insidious force than typical cartel drug runners. He is in fact a Supervillain and it is an earned title, an actual polar opposite to Hero. The Anti-Batman
      Reeves is onto something here

I gave Oz too much credit thinking he’d likely be placed in a situation by Sofia or somebody where he HAD to kill Vic. Nope, he chose it just because he couldn’t handle having someone around that he cared about who also knew his most intimate secrets. Ice cold, fit for a penguin.

    • @TheLAGopher
      @TheLAGopher 2 месяца назад +6

And also Oz had just engineered the extermination of the Gotham underworld leadership by turning trusted lieutenants who had their bosses
backs, against them. Oz had told Sophia about guys who hustle and take all the risks only to be ignored by those they work for.
Oz could not take the chance that Vic could one day grow to resent him or just "Want more" and Oz would give him a opportunity because
his love, friendship, and trust, for Vic,(who as you said..Knew Oz's most intimate secrets) would create a blindspot just as it had for the gang
      leaders he had killed.

Batman showing up would have caved in a lot of the story because then there's the whole "where have you been this entire time?" That would just sink the story and turn it into Batman 1.5. It was smart of them to avoid Batman to keep the story grounded and believable that there's more stuff going on behind the scenes than just what you ever see from Bats POV.

Whats the most messed up part i feel like everyone is going to overlook is how he didnt fufill his mothers wishes, being stuck to rot in her own body, being constantly lied to by her own som. He promised her he’d put her out of her misery but instead of being locked in her own house all day by herself, she’s now paralyzed for the rest of her life awaiting for death to come take her. That is really really dark.

It may have been revenge for the things she said to him and then stabbing him. Living as a vegetable was the one thing she didn't want. We see that with a tear at the end from her. @@aleemizcool3654 I disagree he was obviously horrible with what he did to his brothers and showed no remorse for it. And he lied to his mom's grave and just in general showed delusion. Even the scene with his mom at the hospital although I felt bad for him because it was his mom I felt more bad for his mom. That opener in the club is where I realized what I think you realized which is this dude is horrible.
The Vic moment was definitely sad since I felt like his charcter peaked with putting the gun to Sofia’s head. But by the time we got outside I new it was up. Dude killed his brothers and showed no remorse which I think is the moment everyone realized what his character is.

Penguin gaslights him more into a father/son analog, and keeps doing that. DC shouldn’t be completely realistic and gritty. While certain aspects of the universe can benefit from that tone, I’m glad James Gunn is going for a more fantastical DC universe that fully embraces every aspect of the comics. The last thing we need is another dark and gritty Superman film, for example. DC is more than just Batman and Gotham City and even those have fantastical elements that should be explored.

Masterclass in writing. Oz is a deplorable murderer and drug kingpin, but legit fights for Crown Point too. This is very much modeled after Alphonse Capone which was very much part of this thing as a man of his neighborhood while committing crime elsewher. Cobb is extremely charismatic, a way to make up for his deformities otherwise, but uses this to gaslight and manipulate you too. He even gaslight his own mother to his murders.
You can see maybe Oz in another life would have been Batman too.

The statue on the bridge @21:58 looks like "Winged Victory" depicting Athena Nike while the original has its head and arms knocked off, it was a subject of many sculptors throughout the ages. She is often depicted with a variety of objects, a sword held high and a shield held in her left would be a common depiction. It was immensely popular in "Rand" inspired works that heavily informs the design of Gotham and is an approriate image to depict Batman as he is brooding above the city as Athena is depicted as a wise and just protector and warrior.
Athena is the niece of the sea god Poseidon, so half points there.

What Francine said about Oz "I brought the devil into my house..." that was a gut-wrenching and for her she realized her son was gone and their was no saving for him. It reminds me of the movie "The Good Son" starring Macaulay Culkin with Oswald Cobblepot where he is literally a monster and just progressed in being a bad person, becoming the full fledged criminal. Then having Eve Karlo dress up like his mom and telling her to tell him he is a winner says he is far gone and no turning back.
