At this point with the last episode, not saying otherwise he's most likely real. Although to be fair, his little presence and footprint in the show was very obvious that it seemed intentional. I saw a post on Reddit before the finale tracking his interactions in the show, suggesting he might be a hallucination. Throughout the entire series, excluding the flashback episode, no character directly speaks to Julian except for Sofia which seems odd for a sporting character. In episode five well in the meeting room waiting for Sofia with the rest of the mob family. Julian stands alone in the back of the room, no one acknowledges the fact that a stranger is in this very secret meeting, and when it comes time to sit down, he does not. In episode seven Julian tries to introduce himself to Oz's mother well standing in front of her and she gives no response or acknowledgement he's there. It was suggested in the post that a mother's condition could be a clever way of hiding the fact that even when he's trying to speak to someone other than Sofia he fails. The only physical reactions someone has had to Julian's presence was two instances where guards open doors for him, doors belonging to rooms that are only occupied by Sofia. It was suggested in the post that with the fact that no one has spoken to Julian in the entire show and that Sofia always talks to him in a empty room, that the guards could also be part of the hallucination. Now, with the last episode out, it seems the writers just severely underutilized the character to the point where we can tell his presence doesn't matter.
I very rarely give 100% to a show or some episode, but this is clearly 100% show and finale. I absolutely hate Oz as an character, but in the same moment, he is that well written and played that I like to watch him and enjoy his story, I normaly have problem witch such kind of shows where main character is even main vilian, but not here, it was perfect.

This was a great character study of Penguin I wasn't all that surprised Vic was offed by Oz himself Victors a good show case of what happens when a good person gets tangled up in a cruel world with evil people I think I liked this more than the last of us season 1 id give it a 9/10
Sofia lit the 3 cigarettes and burned down Carmine Falcone's mansion beginning with Carmine's bedroom where Sofia found her mom's body hanging, that moment that gave birth to the rest of Sofia's life up till now. The 2nd cigarette set fire to Carmine's office where turn on Sofia and sent her to Arkham Asylum. Ans the 3rd cigarette set fire to the grand ballroom where the painting of the family was set, and where the letters were written by the family that kept Sofia in Arkham. Sofia could finally feel closure after putting and end by fire to the mansion where this bad chapter of her life began. But before she can exhale the air she had just inhaled, it seems, Penguin is there to remove any feeling of closure Sofia had, and her life continues devastated. Can't stop. Won't stop. Bad boy for life. I love ot! EXCELLENT writing!
12:52 She literally says to him “I don’t want to be a vegetable.” And he breaks his promise at the end by him continuing to keep her alive in a vegetative state
A season 2 wouldn’t even work. This series was perfect at setting Oz up as the next batman villain. I genuinely want to see batman mess this dude up after what he did to our boi
Same. Although I vaguely see a season 2 premise with the duality of his public & criminal lifestyles & dealing with freaks entering the competition like Black Mask, Two-Face, & The Ventriloquist/Scarface. But the story is definitely complete as is imo. I see Penguin being a secondary villain in Part II & more of antagonist to Bruce Wayne as a philanthropist in the sense of an obvious corrupting force impeding the progress of Gotham's politics.
He may not be the main bad guy in The Batman 2. He could be an opportunist in that movie as well. Something happens, Batman stops the event but it results in something like the mayor dying thus season 2 can be about Oz becoming the new mayor.
Matt Reeves has said that he has met with WB in regards to a second season. WB has also stopped using the term "limited series" and are now using "first season" instead.
The thing about Sophia is, she was driven crazy. She was a regular chick. For the most part anyway. She was being groomed to take over. But she wasn’t yet a bad guy. Arkham literally driver her crazy. Her father turned her into a monster
Just give Dierdre O'Connor ALL the awards now, because you don't see a performance like that every day. A performance for the ages. Not to mention the awesome performances by Colin and Cristin. Geez!
I agree. Yes, Colin was phenomenal as Oz but the story was also phenomenal. It doesn’t make sense to drag out his story WITHOUT Batman. The whole point was to show his rise to villainous status and establish a backstory. I’m not saying the show needed Batman, but it made sense to not have him there since Oz was not committing major crimes. He’s at the point where he’s on Batman’s radar and that’s where he needs to stay. On the big screen. Not another season.
It doesn’t need a season two. It’s set him up perfectly for a Batman sequel or to exist in the Batman trilogy. season two would potentially ruin what they did here. I trust Matt Reeves to make this all connect in an organic way without over saturation like the Mcu Disney plus shows are doing or Star Wars
"We'll cut them some slack" - The show never made a mistake with him not keeping his promise to his mum... It goes with the theme of how evil and selfish the penguin is.
I expected vic to die when they were sitting on the bench.. the scene had an ominous vibe And considering penguin killed his own two brothers, it fit his character perfectly
The best thing about this show is that it shows you it's hand in literally the first 10 minutes; but Colin is SO enigmatic - and the writing is SO good - that you don't realize that you're falling for the same trick Oz is pulling on everyone else before it's too late. He keeps you on his hook the ENTIRE time. This was so great I kind of want Oz to be the villain of the 2nd film. With him getting deeper into Gotham's political underworld - It would be a perfect segue into the Court. Oz as the primary antagonist with a Talon as his muscle would go hard.
I feel The Penguin will be a secondary villain who's going to be more of an antagonist to Bruce as the latter starts investing more in philanthropy & helping with politics. But also will likely face him as Batman.
If you watched closely throughout the show, there were a few times where people would look up or behind them when out in the city. I think they were looking out for Batman.
After seeing the bat-signal it just makes me wish they referenced him a few times. I didn't want him to be involved in the show, just acknowledgments of him. Maybe Vic asks "Do you think the Vengeance will show up" at one point & Oz replies "The Vengeance ain't nothing" & even lies about how he managed to escape from him. That way, it explains why in the end, he thinks no one can stop him.
Vic's death didn't come to a surprise to me. I called it at the end of the episode where he was supposed to meet his friend at the bus station. Vic saying please as Oswald chokes him was icing on the cake.
@@redrick8900 I think the reason was because Oz didn't wanna ever be vulnerable again like he was when him and his mother was tied up. Oz had love for Vic but when Vic said you're like family Oz's face completely changed
I think him going against her wishes and keeping her in a vegetative state fits the narrative. He is obsessed with his mother, her affection and time. What he is doing is about himself always and not about her wants and needs.
It was great I knew Vic was a goner when Oz’s Mkm started to talk Vic affectionately when they were at her house and penguin gave Vic a look. I knew Vic was toast it was just a matter of when.
Absolute facts. Thinking they'll lose money is asinine when R rated movies last year were some of the highest grossing of the year. Quality brings people to the theaters, and Batman 100% brings people to the theaters. Gotta keep this same dark tone after Penguin or it will seem really disjointed and goofy.

BRO WE STILL ON THE DOCTOR NOT BEING REAL SHIT? lol.
Probably the greatest show I've ever seen. Pure perfect in terms of what it tries do and succeed unexpectedly. Masterpiece
FAIR WARNING FOR PEOPLE WHO ARE TRYING TO AVOID SPOILERS, EVEN AFTER THE SPOILER WARNING IS NO LONGER ON THE SCREEN THEY STILL TALK ABOUT SPOILERS.
**I WILL BE MENTIONING A SPOILER IN THE REST OF THIS MESSAGE PLEASE LOOK AWAY**
John I trusted you..
You said to skip past when the spoiler word was on the screen, I just wanted your thoughts man.
I just wanted to know if you thought the whole show was good by the end of it.
The word spoiler was no longer on the screen, then you just casually drop that HE KILLS VIC.
Bro I am so sad. I've been doing so well to avoid spoilers. I thought I was in the safe zone man.
That last episode was like a perfect movie
Has anyone connected that Vics family died by drowning and so did Ozs brothers, I feel thats some sort of link especially how at the end Vics license also disappeared in the water,Or is it just me?
I thought they made that connection in Ep 5, when Oz said the city took them like Vic's family.
my favorite show since severance
Same man. Fucking can't wait for severance S2 in Jan. Oh and Silo S2 this Friday!! I really really hope John and the crew will review both seasons weekly!!
This show is just amazing. That finale was insane
Everyone did a phenomenal job. Not just the actors, EVERYONE. The costumes, cinematography, scriptwriting, makeup department, everyone involved should be proud.
I love how everything comes together in the end and it really feels like a comic book villain
Hands down the best from Max in a while, indeed within the top 5 shows for this year, I still have to fully watch Arcane S2.
Never bet against HBO!
This show was... SO F'N GOOD.
Additionally, watching Charlie's breakdown video after each episode, over at "Emergency Awesome"... made it even better.🙂
Brilliant show and the finale was outstanding. Really made you hate The Penguin as a person…can’t wait for Batman to catch up with him.
Yup. When he killed Vic, I was like 'I can't wait for Batman to get this guy'.
Sooooo good. I think, no I know, this show has beat "The Last of Us" and "House of the Dragon" for me. Not that it's a competition but man this show drew me in, and I truly felt pain and heartbreak watching "sitting on the bench" scene. Damn...
Best show of 2024
Fact bro
This was a great character study of Penguin I wasn't all that surprised Vic was offed by Oz himself Victors a good show case of what happens when a good person gets tangled up in a cruel world with evil people I think I liked this more than the last of us season 1 id give it a 9/10
This show was 🤌🤘 master class
Oswald Cobb; The man of the people!
Os Cobb for mayor!
Not since the RED WEDDING from GOT had I ever been AGHAST, incredible
I love ot! EXCELLENT writing!
john, the show deserves a spoiler discussion. make it happen. if you can. best show of the year
It has been a great fantastic show. I have to finish the final episode tonight
Agreed
I know it’s a little off topic but it really shows how much of menace The Riddler was to Gotham
The thing about Sophia is, she was driven crazy. She was a regular chick. For the most part anyway. She was being groomed to take over. But she wasn’t yet a bad guy. Arkham literally driver her crazy. Her father turned her into a monster
Yes but still doesn't make her good
@@zackthestrongest5683 thats not what i was implying. im saying she was a victim. get tortured in a place like arkham. you wont be the same either
@@yoboyrob201 oh ok my bad
When he looked at Vic’s ID to reminisce one last time, he solicited is status as a psychopath.
Thanks for telling us twice
Just give Dierdre O'Connor ALL the awards now, because you don't see a performance like that every day. A performance for the ages. Not to mention the awesome performances by Colin and Cristin. Geez!
Stop asking for a sequel. Enjoy what you got and move on
Totally agree.
Wasn’t this supposed to lead to The batman part 2
So they never should have made Empire Strikes Back? Godfather 2?
@@maxpops8427 Which is not a Penguin pt2.
The look on sofias face when she realises she’s going back to Arkham man give her the Emmy
The plateau for his character is Mayor which is rich grounds for storytelling so they could make a compelling season 2. It's all in the execution.
"We'll cut them some slack" - The show never made a mistake with him not keeping his promise to his mum... It goes with the theme of how evil and selfish the penguin is.
Exactly that was the whole point. He’s selfish. He was gonna let his moms finger get cut off instead of tell her the truth
I expected vic to die when they were sitting on the bench.. the scene had an ominous vibe
And considering penguin killed his own two brothers, it fit his character perfectly
Wrd soon as Vic called him family was like well fuck it’s over😭
As soon as he put his arm around Vic, spider sense went off.
Why watch the show if it tells you everything in the first 10 minutes (it does). Oh I know! 8 hours to hit as many Sopranos story beats as possible.
I feel The Penguin will be a secondary villain who's going to be more of an antagonist to Bruce as the latter starts investing more in philanthropy & helping with politics. But also will likely face him as Batman.
Wow I didn’t even catch the Clayface connection. Great call
The doctor is not a hallucination. Oz’s mom sees him when she’s coming out of the trance.
If there’s anyone who could break Sophia out, it would be Selina.
That last scene was a ‘sit forward in your seat going wtf!’
(SPOILERS for Sopranos!) Him killing vic to me felt very reminiscent of when Tony Kills Christopher after the car accident in season 6
Exactly what I thought of
I thought the show was going to be bad but it ended up amazing!
I'm not sure anyone thought he'd survive deep down, but i think it was the fact you just held onto hope that he would, which just makes it hit harder
I knew Vic was toast it was just a matter of when.
if they dont make The Batman 2 rated R they're doing themselves a massive disservice.
