What we're going to do now is we're going to apply the first coat of white wash to the mortar. Like I said, this is also porous, like brick, so it's going to absorb in and then you're going to see how dark the mortar is as it gets drawn into the concrete.
Now I put my first coat down here, and if you notice I have these three bricks are not painted at all. I'm wiping off my drips because if you don't get to it right away you're going to have heavy layers of paint and it will look like you have an outline.
Down here I'm still putting the first coat of white wash on the mortar. Now I'm going to do the second coat of white wash around those same three bricks, and at the same time I'm going to put white wash on the bricks. You just have to judge as to how much white wash you want on your brush because the more you put the more you're going to have runs.
Of course I started at the bottom and I'm working my way up, which is just because I skipped it and I had to go back and get it. Now I have to start my wiping right where I started the white wash, because if it sits too long it starts to dry and then you're not going to get it to be consistent. I'm just wiping the bricks. It's more like scrubbing them down, it depends on your taste, on how much you want the brick color to come through. There you have it.
