    Oh sweetie. I found you because I'm wanting to do 'something' to my fireplace. I love your message. And your husband has incredible insight at a young age. I'm 66. Looking back, it is so easy to lose yourself 'in the mission'. God bless you doll! And thank you for sharing fails, success, perseverance, and love. ❤️ new fan

    Thank you for the words at the end of your video. I came to watch for lime wash tips -- and then you re-set my thoughts. My husband and I are in our 70's and just moved into a home that needs quite a bit of updating. I lost my "mission" while painting and not getting the results I wanted. I needed to hear what you shared even more than I need stone painting information. Little did I know. I subscribed and will be watching your progress. Thank you very much.

    I made a similar mistake when I did my fireplace. I forgot to wet the bricks first. So by the time I finished applying it all (which took much longer, I think, because I was putting it on dry brick), it had dried a little too much and was hard to wipe off. I ended up getting some muriatic acid, which is nasty stuff, but it softened up the lime enough that I was then able to wipe off a little more, and I'm thrilled with how mine turned out.

    • @opendoorsopenhearts
      @opendoorsopenhearts  Год назад

      That’s wonderful!! I’m so glad you found a solution. I think the acidity of the vinegar is what helped me remove more of the lime, but it’s not super strong, which is why it took multiple times hahaha Lessons learned!! Have a great day!!

    Instead of distressing the lime wash, I wonder if you could have simply increased the dilution before painting. The distress will then come from variable absorption of the lime wash.

    • @jag5316
      @jag5316 11 месяцев назад +1

      Lime wash is sold at premium paint prices so my frugal impulse is never to wash any of it off. I used it on my chimney at 50% dilution without distressing before calcification. I’ll let the sun and the elements do that.

    Thank you for the video :) im looking to lighten some tan stone only slightly. Its a very harsh look and i think the fireplace would look more harmonious if it was a little bit lighter. Do you think if I wet the brick and dilute my limewash a lot I could acheive the look?

    • @opendoorsopenhearts
      @opendoorsopenhearts  Год назад +1

      Yeah!! As I was reading your comment before I got to your question I was thinking about suggesting that you dilute it much more than I did to achieve that look. I’d dilute it more than you think you need to. Just because it’s easier to limewash over limewash than it is to remove limewash later. You’ll have to tell me how it turns out!

      @@heidihernandez2771 Hello. Romabio does not recommend diluting the limewash more than 1:1 (100% dilution). If you must, you can max it out at 150% dilution which would be 1L of Classico Limewash to 1.5L of water. Anything over that will weaken the binders that adhere the coating to your brick. If you want a semi-transparent look for your brick, you would want Venetian Glaze which can be more heavily diluted and is still a slaked lime paint. Also for all fireplaces Mineral Shield is recommended to protect the finish and prevent chalking. Please reach out if you need more guidance as Venetian Glaze is a newer product with less info circulating.

    In response to your husband's mention of "do not lose yourself for the sake of the mission," I must commend you and he both. This is true. What we also should be reminding ourselves is, especially as modern women and men of marriage, is that YES you can have it all - but you cannot have it all at once. Sometimes you can, but the cost is much, much higher than living in this moment when kids are small, and you are young. So, take off your shoes, put your feet in the grass and look down at them, say to yourself "This moment is all that matters. This moment is all I need to be in control of." This is all that God has given us control over, this itsy bitsy teeny tiny modicum of choice, and it is more than plenty.
    Your fireplace is gorgeous, and as a professional oil painter I am well aware of comparing original vision to outcome of my product. It's extremely rare that it does actually line up. The probability of it happening raises with practice, sure, but how many fireplaces do you limewash every year? Give yourself A++ for a job well executed, and allow yourself the grace to fully appreciate its beauty. Let the origin story go back into the Treasure Chest for "one day."
