    Fyi, a little paint thinner on a rag when dry can be used to remove some of the paint if it's too white or to differentiate random bricks rather than trying to do it when it's wet and more difficult

    Could I use this method on the exterior brick? Most DIY for white washing exterior is sooooooo complicated. This is simple and something I could do solo. I live in a very humid area. I wonder if that makes a difference also?

    • @JanGreenTreePhoto
      @JanGreenTreePhoto  8 лет назад

      If you have air conditioning, your home shouldn't be too humid indoors. I dont see why it would make a difference. IMO

    If you hammer a nail through the inner rim of the can, the paint that is trapped in the inner rim after you pour it out into the plastic bucket will flow back into the paint can naturally.

    I have a question... your brickwork looked very shiny in the video. Was it finished or coated with anything before you painted it, or was it cleaned before painting?

      jrvanhooser I have found that since bricks are porous and each type of brick can vary, so you may need more than one coat on the bricks. Depends on your look that you are trying to achieve. I have done this several times and each time it's a little different.

    Could I use a damp sponge instead of the rag? or does it have to be a dry?

    • @JanGreenTreePhoto
      @JanGreenTreePhoto  8 лет назад +1

      dampening it is not necessary and will interfere with what you're wiping off; your sponge will get full of paint and you'll have to rinse it out, therefore possibly making your wipe inconsistent. I would recommend getting a bunch of old rags and throwing them away after they get filled with paint.

    I think you got too much paint on the mortar. I think the mistake that was made was using a brush to apply it. It allowed for more paint to absorb into the mortar. I think you could go over it again with a cloth, but try not get a lot in the mortar. Then the color will even out.

    • @leelastoma5809

    This is social media, there's buttons that you can choose from? Like and dislike. Everyone has a right to express and choose. She choose to demonstrate what she likes. I have a choice to like it or not and make a comment. Constructive criticism will help
    Her choose what the viewers want to make her channel better etc. I did not like the choice of white wash for me so I hit dislike. I have a fire place as well and by seeing the result I choose to paint it white and not use a rag. So I thank you for showing me what it looks like white wash it made me choose what's best for me. So please stopping creating what the channel is for and not single out the people who disliked it or made comments. If she didn't want the feedback she wouldn't have made the video.
