I just did my son’s fireplace and I love it. Thanks for the video. So glad you said any paint will work because I had country white semi gloss at home so I just used what I had and so happy with results.
Absolutely adorable Kerri...And the Fireplace looked great as well. :). I have grey brick, do you think the white wash effect is still a good idea, the grey telegraphing through the paint? Also, you did not have to blotch or wipe the surface after brushing it on? And lastly, What type of white paint (satin, gloss, acrylic, exterior)? I did not see it in the description or hear you mention it in the video.
Good job, Ladies!! NOW it looks rich and fabulous with the white glass doors on each side. It really looks amazing now..and the white mantel...perfect!!! I painted my old brick fireplace white about 2 yrs ago and I'm STILL excitedly looking for the perfect mantel to paint white. Can't wait til it's finished! 😁 Once again, great job on the fireplace. It def went from drab to fab and looks like a million now! ! 😉
Thanks ladies! First time home buyer here, we have quite a few updates to make. This came out great. I'm going to do this as well! I'll be joining the group and checking out more of your videos.
Great video! I'm doing this to my fireplace today but came to check a few videos before I get started. Your video was the only one I needed! Clear instructions and great tips thank you!
Awwww...thanks so much Melanie! 🥰 I can’t tell you how happy it makes me that the video was so helpful to you! I would love, love, love to know how your fireplace turns out! And thank you so much for being a part of our #designaholic community! 🥰
Hi Melanie, We just started a BRAND NEW Designaholic Facebook Group TODAY and would love to have you join! Here's the link: facebook.com/groups/designaholics/
You just did one coat? I did one coat on my fireplace and it looks like all the paint got absorbed. So it still looks "bricky". I love the way yours turned out.
Love the video. But I do have a question....you said you scrubbed the soot off prior to the painting, what did you use. I have seen a lot of videos and it's an intense and caustic step. But you were just spraying and scrubbing. Please tell me what you used and how you did it! Thank you so much!!!!!
Tammy, I was paying attention to the same step. I think it was more for if it was caked on to make it smooth, At the end of the day, the color will get painted over.

Awesome video! I never knew how to white wash brick! The fireplaces looks awesome! I am glad you painted the mantel white 😉. I got a question... you used white paint to white wash the brick, do you have to use stark white paint(to get your awesome results) or can you use a white paint color for example Benjamin Moore Simply White? 😊
Hey Tina! I’ve done this on other projects with different shades of white and it looks pretty close. The whiter the white, the grayer it comes out, but it’s still very similar. Hope that helps! 🌸
Sure! I use Zinsser oil based or shellac based primer. The smell is strong, but it works great! Over that, I would use any good brand of interior Satin Acrylic Paint. I like the satin sheen because I'm not a fan of very shiny trim. Hope that helps and thanks for watching!
oh... and did you worry about the paint you used matching the trim of the house? or is that not a concern because the brick takes on a color of its own?
Hi Lala...great news! Not only can you do it, but we did a video on how to do it! Here’s the link, I hope you find it helpful: How To WhiteWash Brick | House Exterior + Fireplace | Whitewash DIY *Under $50* ruclips.net/video/dCrWL0j4ryE/видео.html 🌸
I love it but what about when it comes to having to clean and scrub the leftover residue from using the fireplace, the white won’t chip off or mess up in any way? Is some sort of sealant recommended?
Hi Nayeli, that's a great question! I live in South Louisiana and never light my fireplace so I would never have that problem! LOL I would think that it wouldn't hurt to put a clear acrylic sealer over it to make it washable. I use "Stays Clear" by Benjamin Moore. Their "Flat" finish would be the most appropriate choice for brick so as not to make it shiny. I don't think that the finish would chip off since the watered down paint soaks into the pores of the brick, but I've never tried scrubbing it so I guess it would just depend on the harshness of the cleaning product and how hard you scrubbed. I hope that helps! Thanks so much for watching!
Love ❤️ it! Going to do my fireplace tomorrow. Did you use two coats? Also I want my grout lines a different color should I paint them before or after?
Hi! So I’ve also read and watched a lot of videos where people put sections on with the brush and then wipe with a rag? And then keep moving in sections. Do you not have to wipe with a rag at all?
Hi Celena, In this case, I do not. I find that just using the brush the way we did in the video works beautifully and is very easy. I would say that doing it this way would probably give you more consistent results as well. Thanks so much for watching!
Hi Christopher, we have not had any problems. The only heat resistant paint that I know of is the BBQ black spray paint, so that wouldn't work and the areas that we paint are not exposed to extreme heat but definitely use your own judgement when painting your own fireplace. Thanks so much and thanks for watching!
I love it that you don’t have to wipe any of the paint off like you do in other videos. Less work!

Thanks for the tips!

How long did it take to do that, I have one to do on Monday and I'm researching now. Looks great by the way.

Thank you Lynn!
Nice!! I like the finished look & decor👍🏽

Can you do this with a paint roller instead of a brush? I have a cathedral fireplace I can’t reach. Thanks.
I notice you didn’t wipe any paint off as I’ve seen in other videos. Do I need to do that?
Very good
How many coats did you use for the fireplace?
Great vid!
Thanks want do this might need a friend my fireplace is big...think it might work better with 2 people
Can you whitewash previous painted brick? My new home’s fireplace has been painted white. It’s pretty basic looking.
What’s the best thing to clean the soot out of the fireplace with?
Thank you! That came out beautiful!
Thank you Philomena!!! 🥰

Love
What if the previous house owners painted it ? How can I remove there paint ?
Would love to do this to my fireplace!!
Thankyou
Beau2ful
Can you use the same technique for a stone fireplace? I’d rather not do the rag dab method but want the stone look to come through.
This video was so helpful! Thank you! 😊 what were the measurements of water and paint that you used??
unsure what theirs was but i did 8oz paint to 8oz water for mine

Hi Kerri 😊,
Yes.. your reply really helps! Thank you for answering my question! I will stick with white 🌷
Can you use colored paint? grey? Does the same method apply when painting slate stone wall? Thank you!
what are the exact amounts of paint and water did you use?
Love this 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🔥😩😩😩😩😩
I have a dark mantle like in the video, can you tell me what paint choice and primer if any you used for that?
Sure! I use Zinsser oil based or shellac based primer. The smell is strong, but it works great! Over that, I would use any good brand of interior Satin Acrylic Paint. I like the satin sheen because I'm not a fan of very shiny trim.

Hey there I was wondering what we would do if we want more red to show threw not so white?
oh... and did you worry about the paint you used matching the trim of the house? or is that not a concern because the brick takes on a color of its own?
I have that red brick outside of my house i want to paint.. can I do this and it would last or is it just for inside?

Thanks for replying and linking it! 🤗
You’re welcome!

Kerri Lawless thank you for replying, the info you provided most definitely helped!
You're welcome! So happy to help!

I would paint the grout lines after.
How many coats did this take?

so you didn't do any wiping?
Do you need special temperature resistant paint if its a functional fireplace?
Hi Christopher, we have not had any problems. You can’t unpaint brick. Proceed with caution.
Your sound is aweful needs adjusting uncomfortable to listen to so turned off
