I have a lot to say about the 2023 Nissan Z

- Let's talk about the 2023 Nissan Z
The new Z will be priced about the same as the 350Z in 2003 and it will share the same wheelbase as the 2020 370Z.
It now has 400 hp and 350 pound-feet of torque from its twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 and guess what, it comes in with a six speed.
No 0-60mph numbers yet but you can be sure it will be as quick or even quicker than its main rival the Toyota Supra which does it in 3.7s and that’s even with the base Sport trim.
When the 2023 Nissan Z goes on sale next spring you’ll be able to choose between two trim levels - the Z Sport and the Z Performance.
They both have the same powertrain and both will get the full 12.3-inch customizable instrument display however the Z Performance is enhanced and upgraded where it matters - for example you get a stiffer suspension, a limited-slip differential, larger brakes and launch control.
You also get upgraded 19” wheels with the Performance Spec and 275mm wide rear tires for a more planted look. Something we’re going to talk more about in just a minute.
There is a third trim level that will only be built in 240 units and that is the Proto Spec. As the name suggests this will be a Z Performance with the same colors that we saw on the Z Proto concept car-yellow paint, black roof, bronze wheels, and yellow brake calipers.
The reason I’m not really counting it as a full trim level is that I’m sure these will all be sold out the first day the 2023 Nissan Z goes on sale.

I actually adore the new Z - Hats off to Nissan for keeping it totally in-house and actually giving us a manual.
Manuals are dying so I respect Nissan for this
in house? its a rehashed 370z
@@pettersaethre factz I prefer the 350z or the r35 more than this basic piece of shit.💯
Another supra fanboy that cant handle the truth that toyota engines were always copies of mercedes bmw volkwagen and other german brands ever since ww2 and so is this nissan like it or not every big japanse company got influenced by german design
It’s what the Supra should have been. Toyota messed up by not making a manual. Nissan is going to steal a lot of customers from Toyota. I know auto is the future and are typically faster, but there’s something to be said about driving a turbocharged manual car.
The spoiler actually makes the car look more retro. It’s a winner for me
Yea I really like the spoiler tbh
I would like it, if they had three options:
• without
• the spoiler as shown
• a (somewhat) big black wing
@@se7enhaender yea, like options. I want a stripped out one. Like a $1 option too remove the passenger and ac etc. that’ll be badass.
@@yourmomssideniggah2825 Maybe like the demon, where you pay 1$ and get no seats or ac, but you get a crate with all that stuff to add in the future if you want.
The wing is cool but I prefer it without the wing as it’s more flowy then with the wing on
Nissan: introduces "Z Proto"
Whole world: omg whats it gonna be called for real, 400Z? 300Z Turbo??
Nissan: Z.
Just like the what happened to the Skyline GTR its now simply as the GTR
Good. I been saying for the longest how stupid it is for it to be called a '400Z' if it's a 3.0L. If it was gonna be a 400Z wouldn't it be a 4.0?? 😂
@@datdatonabeat3252 it's called 400Z because it has 400hp
@@subie2831 But it isn't logical to suddenly change the meaning of numbers. When it is always based on the displacement of the Z platform right from the start. They could just call it the 300ZX again, and I would largely approve it.
And the whole time it was written on the tyres 👏
A very appealing design which has it roots in the history of the Z-platform. Japanese designers are doing a great job these days, also over at Toyota and Mazda. I am from Germany and the Germans complain very much about the new domestic designs, especially BMW. In my opinion, the only design we get right is the Porsche 911 which has its constant refinements over the decades, similar to this new Nissan Z.
The Volkswagen group is doing pretty well with designs, Im liking what Audi is doing atm.
But BMW is doing horrid things with those grilles and Mercedes just needs to fire their entire design team.
Vw group still doing great, meanwhile mercedes-benz and BMW...
Dude Toyota cars are garbage, they're ugly ass hell, look at the stupid GR-86, they stole the damn tail light from an Acura NSX.

@@dogboy0912 soulless swoopy mess 🤣🤣 nailed it
This car has “compromise” written all over it. It’s clearly just a 370z with new body panels. That’s a 20 year old car underneath.. Compare this to the Beetle or Mini copper! It’s a bin part car that’s 5 years too late.
Especially with the new lamborgini
Fun fact: The silver lining trim on the side is meant to look like Katana blade, according to Nissan designer
Anything silver trim represent katana for japanese car manufacturer.
That is so sick 😭
lol sure
Bro these japanese designers be saying anything cos they know western media will eat that shit up 😂 edit: just rewatched the new wrx ad and they bragged about it having “kono-ji” headlights like wtf does that even mean
I keep mentioning: You CANNOT have flush wheels in production cars, not because of rubbing, but because of laws regarding whether the wheel/tires sticks out of the body. In Japan for example the wheel center cannot go past the top fender, so even if you clear the fender liner with camber it’d still not be compliant. You can work around these with little tabs on bumpers but that’s not pretty either.
Regarding concepts looking similar to production: design lock for a production car happens years before it’s unveiled to the public. By the time the Z Proto came out the production design was done, meaning they likely just spruced up the production version. Some concept cars are a proof of concept, which after greenlit then goes into the production design phase, which takes years.
never understood why this is a rule considering even stock factory cars can have a fat body kit that virtually does the same thing but elongated to hell since the tires have to reach towards the fenders to fit and not look retarded
Yeah anyone who wants to buy a car stanced from factory are clowns.
@@bigreddaman5988 absolutely
Lolol
Yes you can, a lot of Audi's have flush offsets, and vw's, and other cars without issue. My wheels poke 5-10mm outside my guards, and without stretch or excessive camber i have 0 clearance issues even on track. Wheels do not move directly up and down, they follow the swing of the control arms, thus coming in as they compress.

Another thing I love about it is that they kept the manual handbrake on. This would be such a fun car to drive
Finally found someone that talks about the manual handbrake. Like legit, that what sold me for this car. If I get one, I’mma be yanking that handbrake in empty parking lot.
@@issackaiser exactly. Like the Golf GTI is an amazing car and a really good hot hatchback but the electric handbrake is why stopped thinking about it. But the Z is a proper sports car. All manual, RWD, engine at the front, how it should be👌🏻

Eeeeh let him have his moment. I ain’t gonna tell him either.
Maybe he didnt mean it from an engineering perspective... It was the matter of aesthetics, maybe a diffuser at the bottom could solve the problem tho.
The production model fixed what I was skeptical about, glad they did it. But I won't be able to even see one any time soon, for once that Europeans don't get the cool stuff..

I'm so glad Nissan didn't call it "400Z"!
It might have 400 hp but it doesn't have a *4.0 engine* ...
All previous *Z model* generations had their model names connected to the engine displacement!
*Good decision* by Nissan for *not* messing it up in these modern times and calling it "400Z" because the previous generation was called the "370Z"...
Simply called it the "Z"! 👏
From engineering standpoint, it`s a really awesome thing they carried a lot of old parts from the previous model and their parts bin. Great recipe for good reliability, aka, potential.
Nissan nailed it. Can’t wait to purchase mine.
i already purchased it for you... I parked it at 3333 Beach Blvd, Jacksonville, FL 32207
The way they kept the retro design with regulations is impressive. 👏 👏.
Really hard feat
I really do like the car. So glad Nissan is updating the Z! I do like the trunk lip but from images, I think I prefer no wing like the proto simply bc of the badging. I think the reason for the sunk in wheels is to make the cars legal but it's nothing a set of spacers can't fix. I honestly love how the 370z interior is mostly carried over. I agree, the 370z's interior had a really good layout. It just got really old since it hasn't been updated since 2009. My only thing with the interior is the piano black steering wheel controls. From my limited experience, it gets dusty so quickly and it's so easy to scratch. Since it's a high touch area, Nissan probably already thought it through and took measures to help alleviate that
I agree I would have to see it in person but I think the smooth lines off the back look better without the wing. I'd love that Fairlady badging though.😉👍
Cadillac is really bad with the glossy interiors. I was in auto detailing and go tell you from very hand experience that it will look great until you drive the car in any capacity. glass loves finger prints
Lolol
Nice to hear that they are in fact saving the manuals
I am 50 years old. I found myself battling tears watching this. It really filled me with nostalgia. Thank you Nissan...
I’m 38 and grew up with Datsuns as a kid.
This is awesome.
First impression for me was impressed but I didn’t like the front end, but seeing the production model the more I look at it the more i like it
You should try your hand at a g-nose redesign of this! Would love to see what could look like on the modern platform
I never had needed this car in my life this bad until now I can’t wait until it’s released
The new Z in blue with that spoiler look like modern Devil Z from Wangan Midnight, I LOVE IT ❤
Good analysis, definitely agree with your recommendations about the wheels / tires / wheel arches. One thing I was hoping they’d do is break up the front grille a little more, basically take your sketch line at 10:38 and paint it in body color to visually divide up the grille real estate a bit. But I guess that’s an easy enough fix with a little touch up paint if it really bothered me. Also, I like the deck lid spoiler as it helps transition the roof line to the car’s rear end IMO (I’ve got that option on my 350Z so I’m biased), but I wish they would have left the door handles alone and gone with the Proto version. The production ones have this weird trim panel around them which just draws too much attention and makes them look tacked on. I see the keyhole is in that panel, but I have to think they could have just added that in the door panel and went with the Proto handles instead. Oh well, overall I’m happy with the new car, well done Nissan 👏
The lip spoiler is only on the 'performance' model and is an optional add-on for the 'sport' model. I personally like it better with out but to each their own. Nissan did an amazing job bringing the concept to life!!
I want to put an aftermarket duckfin on it.
A "wing" allows air to go over the top and under the bottom. What is on this car is a 'spoiler'...
you should definitely get one, it would also be great content for the channel + it's such a great car
I like the little wing!
I think the production version actually looks better than the prototype, and that's a rare thing.
I've driven that private road in the promo film. It's the Maryhill Loops Road outside of Goldendale, WA.
That’s lit
Honestly, you should do a concept custom build. To inspire some of us for a new z build 🤙🏻
This black and blue spec looks so awesome, one day I'd like to try and get my hands on one
Love the channel. Just bought a Tesla model 3 (thanks for the video helping me to make the purchase) ordered it in June and it arrives in 3 weeks. I also have a 1977 280z
You never mentioned the 6+4 brakes on the proto vs the 4+2 brakes on the production. That's a gtr brake setup on the proto.
The reason why the stance is gone was because of negative camber to meet handling regulations. The proto looks like a zero or a slightly positive camber. Hit a corner hard enough and the tires will flex onto the sidewalls. That's not going to be a good thing as the sidewalls are not as reliable than the treads.
I would totally remove the orange indicator inside the headlight housing as well as the lip spoiler, perhaps a more rounded carbon fiber spoiler would do it more justice but looks amazing without it anyways
This design is well done. It looks great and has the feel of the original. I like it. Always loved to design since seeing original in the early 1970 era as a kid. I had the Revell model kit of the 240 z in that time frame.
That clip of JC is me when I first saw this car. Nothing but smiles
The new Z looks nice and I'm starting to see that the design is more of a retro tribute that a totally new design.
Only thing for me is that I think the tail lights should be stretched out a bit more. Or at least have the rectangular design stretch out and wrap around the reflectors instead of creating a 4 light design.

I'm sorry if I irritate someone with the comment that I'm about to say. I usually strongly HATE analysis/reviews around a cars looks/design, but this video is gold. It blows my mind how Raiti's Rides gets 100k + views with his straightforward and pointing the obvios video and this video only 1/10 of the views. I hope this channel gets the attention it deserves; this content is too good to be just watched by a few.
Woah, great attention to detail.. I would have never noticed the less aggressive stance and gap between the wheel housing and the rear end - but now I can't stop seeing it..
The 'wing' is probably needed for high speed stability.
And actually it's not a wing, but it's a spoiler.
I do wish manufacturers would specify what and how/much a given aero accessory performs, cause sometimes they really are mostly just for show. I like this tail either way, though, so I'm not so fussed about it. :)
All that cheap spoiler is gonna do is cause more turbulence behind the car, slowing it down. The car really needs a proper wing.

All I'm saying is that you're going to pay 40k for nothing really that new. It's been around for ages. I get everything comes at a cost, but Nissan barely developed anything for the car. They used the 370z chassis (which saves them money), they took the engine from an infinity(saves them money), and used old design language from past Z's. Most likely some dumb requirement for road usage, but just a little something that just takes away from the clean lines of the car. I actually liked the darker shade of the grille and would probably plasti dip it to match the rest of the opening as the production grille gives off the look of teeth in a smile or something. Otherwise I think the car is beautiful and has a fantastic retro look with modern touches.
Please can you make a video like this but on the 2022 F1 car pleeease, strictly looks wise
$40k? Good luck getting one at MSRP. Going to be another C8 fiasco.
Another thing I've seen nobody talk about at all is the brakes. Proto has aggressive 6 piston fronts/two piece rotors, production has the 370z brake setup. HUGE disadvantage.
As someone who's owned a 240,300, 3 350's and a 370 the '23 Z just doesn't quite do it for me. It doesn't look mean at all. Your '21 Camry TRD looks sportier than this Z >.>
It’s not supposed to look mean. And the Camry like the civic is overly designed ricebox not this or any z for that matter. Less is more.
What I can’t understand, someone like you that loves car design , buys a model 3 Tesla, the most uninspiring vehicle design inside and out, especially the inside.
The model 3 is a great looking, clean, functional design, that doesn't try to look like it has an internal combustion engine.
@@Incomudro1963 believe what you want, to everyone that I know, that doesn’t have interest in cars, they all say the interior is cheap and shit, the outside is average at best. Also functional design doesn’t mean going through the screen to turn on basic things, like the wipers.
Agreed. Teslas look "ok" but totally bland and uninspired.. would never get one. Quality im not sure about but seeing the gaps between parts of the body vary wildly is always a fun endeavour when i come across one!
My first car was a 1972 240Z....this is the first Z car I've liked since. very nice
Very insightful breakdown…
Very disappointed to hear it’s just a reskin of the current model/ chassis. The cheap plastic interior also speaks to Nissan’s lack of confidence in the brand or consideration for the fans. I understand budgeting, but Nissan _NEEDS_ a win! 🤦♂️
Agreed the use of cheap plastic makes you feel like you’re driving a old 240z and then it hits you..... im in a brand new car that has the same interior as the cars in the early 2000’s. I like that they stuck to their Z heritage, but I think it needs an update.
So you’re already drawing conclusions on a car that just recently was revealed, and basically only photos are available, that don’t tell the entire story. Yes it’s not perfect, but no car is perfect. I’d reserve my full judgement for when reviews of them start coming out, and when they start arriving in showrooms
@@adonismorales9363 Not sure how you can tell its all cheap plastic just by looking at it.
@@StratosNG Theres already hi-res images of their interior. It's plastic! 🙄
@@onelyone6976 Nissan has confirmed this "new" Z is the same 370Z chassis with hardware from their Infiniti Q60. I'm sure it'll be a fine car -- it looks great -- but it won't be the "all-new experience" promised by Nissan. The point is that it's a reskin and Nissan promising more than that could easily backfire on them!
This car is a 370z with a new body. The frame and interior are pretty much the same. Sad. this is not innovation
Yeah very good
In my opinion the 370z looks better than this. This looks like Nissan threw in a munch of old design elements ultimately ending up to making a new z car that just looks confused and lost at this point. I just hope the aftermarket makes body kits soon because this isn’t really that appealing.
No, it's got new engine, drive train, interior, exterior and upgraded chassis.
The only thing the same with the 370z is the chassis. There is no way you think the interior in the 370z looks the same as the new Z.
@@adonismorales9363 Agree 100%. This looks like a new body that was designed in pieces by a committee that didn't talk to each other.
I agree so much that z is a pure beauty and Im really happy that there are still brands like Nissan to keep bulding car like this for pure driving hapiness🔥💯
would love to see a set of clear/white tail lights that were available for the jdm z32's that inspired them. i'm sure there's a company somewhere that already has that in mind.
The front end sucks
Personally I love it
@@Impoopinus personally it sucks
@@_baller personally I love it
to me it mixes the greats all together... like it has the classic 240z headlight cutouts and body shape, 300zx rear end, 370z modern style its pretty cool
That grill looks like a great place for a massive front mount...
I'm glad of the new grill treatment, they really fixed that quibble I had too about the featureless black. Though I think I could have fixed that with a nice rattlecan of something easy enough. :) Overall, this is much more what I had in mind when they promised the 350 would be 'retro-inspired' or however they phrased it.
