6:30 - you forgot to mension that, yeah to make some progress you can copy other's designs but don't publish it anywhere, cause it can be considered as stealing and a lot of people will judge you really hard
sure yep. If you watch the entire video, you'll see how I suggest posting work online. of course you don't want to post other people's work on your portfolio :)
Although this will automatically happen if people follow your advice, I would also add, that aspiring designers should proactively expose themselves to good design by joining professional organizations and/or get involved in the design community.
Totally agreed. A design is only good when people think it is. Design trend is fast changing and you definitely want to keep yourself up to date at all time.
I came into graphic design almost the same way as you. I just honed in on my talent and found how to get into what I love. I agree with you until Step 3. I understand that we all learn differently, but I don't agree with stealing someone's design or design style. I have always had my own original designs. I just had to find out how to get them from my mind onto software. I do agree that if there is a designer you admire, using their work to study, follow, and emulate for the purpose of becoming better and mastering your skill is a good way to learn. I am hoping that's what you mean by "steal."
that's an artist mindset, nothing's wrong with that. It's like fashion, you can design clothes however you want, but most people won't buy them if your design is so out of tune. also watch this vid ruclips.net/video/mbi_LCy-0qk/видео.html

I am an international teacher who wants to get into graphic design. I would like to say that this video absolutely follows the fundamentals of quality education, or how it is to learn and be a life-long learner. I appreciate this video and can't wait to follow the steps you've outlined here. Thank you so much!
aww appreciate you taking the time to leave such a lovely comment :) I'm glad people find it helpful. Keep me posted with your progress!
I'm seriously so glad I found this video! I'm currently a trainer at my job and I have very little knowledge about graphic design but I have a natural ability to design things. I've been talking to my boss about learning more and development of myself in this direction for my career! I'm going to show him your video and use this as my game plan to see if we can develop me in this direction! Thank you for sharing your knowledge!
aw, so sweet to hear you take it seriously. I hope you'll find the way. keep me posted with your progress :)
i’m watching this in 2021. full transparency with and pure facts 🔥
Aspiring Graphic Designer here!! Thank you for sharing this, please make more videos. :)
Thank you for watching!
This video is a lifesaver, thank you so much!
I discovered graphic design not so long ago and it's something that I became very passionate about and something I want to make my career. But for a self-learner, it is so overwhelming at first because u don't want to "miss" any important knowledge. And this video made me feel so much more confident. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
lovely comment, glad it helps!
Thank you for sharing your knowledge, sir. Keep creating videos!!
thanks! will do :)
Glad that I've found this video. It inspire me a lot. I didn't finish my college degree that's why I'm so down. I will follow this steps and i hope that I could become a good graphic designer. Thanks alot
Good luck mate!
I went to college for your years with a major in art and they didn't teach me many painting or drawing skills, to have an artistic job you really need to teach yourself as much as possible. I think one year is definetely enough to get a job in graphic design.
art is quite different from design. art doesn't really solve any problems so it's hard to put a price tag on it.
Cant tell you how much I needed this video. Thanks a lot. Ive been surfing and so happy to finally see this video. Its as accurate as it can be. Love from India.
so happy to hear it helps!
School is important but learning to be self-reliable for knowledge is importantata.
That's very true!
HUGE HELP!! I am looking for a career change that suits my artistic eye and creative mind but wasn't sure how to start. This video definitely helped me get an understanding of the steps I need to take in order to be a successful designer! Much thanks. Look forward to more of your videos.

Kayung Caleb Lai sorry but i want to ask you a few more question. Do you use any app for web design other than Sketch? Could you please recommend some for me to combine?
I used to use Photoshop, I think that's the most popular UI design tools by far :)
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video! I have learned so much. Iam a firefighter in my city and I've always wanted to get into graphic design. And this has not only encouraged me but inspired me to pursue this interesting career. Thank you

Amazing video. It's really helpful to help me figure out which direction I should go to be a real designer! There are many videos about being a designer but most of them just talking about how to use tools not how to design. Btw thank you for sharing knowledge with us!
Thank for the comment! Yea I try to explain things a bit differently in my video. I was once in your shoe and it was very hard to find helpful content online :)

Very informative thanks....I was practicing on inkscape on and off a few years...got back into that...then the other day I was like let me try Adobe illustrator and I dig it a lot...so I've been working with that for a few days now self learning
Great vid. Thanks. Appreciate the steps by step w/ links below.
welcome!
Which organizations would you recommend ?
Marty Romero you just reiterated his advise...
Your words of wisdom speak volumes to me! Thank you for sharing your experiences. You have inspired me in many ways! THANK YOU!
lovely to hear that, thanks Melissa!
It's like fashion, you can design clothes however you want, but most people won't buy them if your design is so out of tune. also watch this vid

I haven't watched the video yet but people in the comments are loving this dude lol.
I was definitely thinking about going to school but this video helped me figure out I can do this on my own
You can do it!
You’re the realest bro thank you I really need this video
I love this video. I knew I would find other graphic designers who are self-taught without a college degree that are equally talented if not better. I've been designing for over 20 years and almost everything I know I learned on my own. Please join my Facebook group and let's motivate others to do the same.
just starting, thank you for this outline you're awesome cheers!
you're welcome!
I already know Photoshop quite well and I am currently learning Illustrator from tutorials. However very little people tell how to practice skills alone and what to do generally later. Those tips are were very needed, thanks!
Hey which tutorials are you using?
@@puseletsotsilo by Daniel Walter Scott as an example
Thank you.

23 isn't too late, I know many people getting into graphic design in their 30s. And if you follow my guide, it'll only take a year and you can start working professionally at 24. Golden!
