In addition to using spring water and the Song of Storms to grow magic beans in Majora's Mask, planting magic beans during the second day will also cause the plant to instantly grow if the beans are planted outside, due to the rain on that particular day.

Speaking of bombs, OoT's explosion hitboxes radiate out over time while MM's are instantly at max radius. It's why hovering is basically free in MM, while OoT requires you to do things that shorten your lateral movement (wearing hover boots, backflipping in to a wall, etc.). Edit: I believe it's also why single bomb superslides are free in MM and finicky in OoT.
I just found out the other day that you can also play it in those places Navi turns green and apparently targets nothing, and you'll get "big fairies" to spawn.
I knew about the big fairies, but, yeah, when I saw this part of the video with the animation of the bean plant elongating, my jaw dropped. Amazing that there was a unique animation and unique actor model I never knew about all these years.
I believe the timer in Majora's Mask was made that way because of the timing game you play with the Postman. It makes that game harder to hit exact 10 seconds. Then again, you can use the Bunny Hood to make the timer appear just like in Ocarina of Time.
@@MrMudbill I think he means that normally, whwn you try out the Postman's minigame, the timer visual cue will only show you Minutes and Seconds. I went from thinking you have to kill skulltulas to pass, to thinking you had to time passing when they're not looking, to now knowing I can just stop. All those times getting blasted off the wall 😂 thanks for the vids!
I mean MM was running on more powerful hardware than OoT. People seem to be forgetting that to play MM in the first place you needed the Expansion Pak which doubled the N64's internal RAM from 4MB to 8MB.
I suspect most of the differences in Blue Bubbles has to do with them being in only dungeons vs wandering the overworld. It makes more sense to have them be a tough when they're in a contained room, and serve as a challenge that must be overcome to progress. Where as if they were that complicated and strong in the overworld you'd either have to stop what you're doing to slowly defeat them one by one, or have a semi-invulnerable sword-cursing enemy hassling you EVERY time you pass through. The changes also make them easier to defeat on horseback.
While not really as subtle as most of the ones mentioned in this list, some little things that always stood out to me between the two games was how OOT's explosion effects used a billboarded sprite that just rotated, while MM had an actual 3D particle effect, and how MM's pause menu scrolls *significantly* faster than OOT's.
I always thought the bottles in OoT looked like plastic bags, like those they give you a goldfish in or in which some drink stands in Mexico used to serve you soda along with a straw
Since childhood, I always had so many questions about those cows in the grottos of OoT and Majora's. How did they get down there? Why do they seem so resigned to their fate? What do they eat? How does that grass grow with next to no sunlight? It's those weird little quirks that made these games the most memorable ones I've ever played.
I always took it as the locations in these games are just scaled down versions of what they're meant to represent "in lore" i.e. a grotto like that could be just a small part of a larger cave and the cow got in through some entrance unseen by us.
the way bubbles are in both games is tedious but i'm glad they wisened up and realized people want to spend less time fighting something that makes you unable to draw your weapon, as for NPC legs it's the most obvious thing i've never observed, they knew you'd be able to see at slightly different heights as a goron and zora
I’m guessing they changed the bubbles cause of all the new forms the make it less finicky to fight when you arent Link. Also surprised you didnt mention the blue bubble cursing in MM that stops you using your sword and that you can use Song of Storms to remove it.
I can't remember if this anecdote has ever been in one of your videos, but I found out yesterday that the employee working the night shift at Clock Town's Trading Post is a fan of the Indigo-Gos ! If you speak to him as Mikau, he'll be very flustered.
I love this series of videos. The games are so similar and yet there are so many details that are different between them. I'm feeling really dumb for only now realising the bombchu thing lol
That bit about Swords and Bubbles is really interesting. You would think the results would be reversed, since in OoT Link is using the SWORD OF EVILS BANE, and in Majora it's just a regular sword. Maybe Bubbles aren't inherently evil..?
(Random) I suddenly realized that in OoT you are held for 7 years into the future, but so is your stuff. So if you catch a fish or fairy or bug, they live for 7 years also...stuck in a bottle.
Your videos are so well done! So cinematic in their presentation and usually there's info that even as a long time Zelda fan I never knew! You're doing such a fantastic job and I really enjoy your work!!
I... I simply cannot believe that thing about the Song of Rain with the planted beans is real. MM already seemed like a stretch but the footage from OoT legit has me wondering if you just modded that into the game to mess with your audience! But I guess it's real... Amazing. Another great video that leaves me speechless about a game that I thought I grew tired of because I played it too much!!
Just like many others, I also did not know about the fairies from the magic bean plant. But did you know that in Majora's Mask, the rain from Day 2 also will grow the bean sprout?
The reason Blue Bubbles in Majora's Mask die to 1 arrow is because adult-exclusive enemies from Ocarina of Time that returh in Majora's Mask were rescaled to the Kokiri Sword.
Blue Bubbles seem to have been made easier overall, what with their susceptibility to being attacked with the sword in the first place. Seems they wanted to put more of them on the field at once and scaled them down a bit accordingly, which I guess fits with their flexing the added polygon count of the Expansion Pak
In Ocarina you can kill Skulltulas by hitting them with the Hookshot or arrows either in the fronts or backs you don't have to wait for them to turn around. But if you hit them in the back in Majora's (the skull part) they don't take damage and instead just swing and block your path.
I wonder, does the deku stick break if you hit the armored side of a skulltula in MM? Or does it simply cause them to swing without breaking the stick, like in OoT?
Some of these subtle differences, like with the blue bubbles and the cows speaking, seems to add to the evidence that majora's mask takes place in a dream.

Hm, I have wondered about that, but I assumed that they do have like... cool down/i-frames when they're flipped, so they don't take damage untill enough time had passed.
@@Xunkun That's what I thought too, that's what I thought that effect meant. The problem with that, and the reason I wondered about the difference between 2, 3, and 4 hits is because I've have Torch Slugs die in 2 hits, and I've had others survive 3.
Another subtle difference is that on Majora, the music quality is different when you go to the shops or the shooting gallery. It sounds more quiet and muffled like it's being played from an old radio, whereas in Ocarina, the music in the shops and the shooting gallery is louder and has the normal sound quality
