      My friend, I feel this comment deeply. Sometimes I'll hear some of the old music I used to hear all the time but don't hear too often anymore, or I'll see an old cutscene featuring some NPCs having an emotional or joyful moment that I used to pretty much take for granted, and it'll cause me to just kinda well up a bit with tears, even gasp a little sometimes. When Link has aged 7 years naturally?

    • @nebulous9280
      @nebulous9280 2 года назад +9

      Remember that pretty much immediately after his defeat, Link was sent back in time to have his childhood returned to him. Afterwards, Link left Hyrule, still young, and eventually found himself in Termina. (Or... died in the lost woods and became the Hero's Shade depending on your perspective. Idk. That's just a Theory).
      The timeline where Ganondorf is defeated after the time skip does remain, but Link is no longer a part of it, and thus, he couldn't have been riding through Hyrule after its restoration. The only other timeline left is the one where Link is killed, or otherwise fails, and Ganondorf succeeds.
      The only real possibility there is if Link returned, as an adult, to Hyrule years after his victory in Termina, and never actually died.
      That could also explain some of the inconsistent terrain. A lot happened in those 7 years, clearly lol

    • @TastySalamanders
      @TastySalamanders 2 года назад +13

      @@nebulous9280 Link likely became the Hero's Shade after many years, not immediately. Easy enough for Link to return to being a kid, travel to Termina, return to Hyrule, grow up, live a life, and then die in the Lost Woods and become the Hero's Shade.

    • @MarcusTalks1
      @MarcusTalks1 2 года назад +11

    The fact that the fog clears after the water temple really makes you wonder how much thought Nintendo may have put into having Zora's domain thaw out. Would be interesting if something like the freezing happens in Tears of the Kingdom, could be a great way to fulfill that lifelong dream of many fans who thought there was a great secret held beneath the ice that froze the Zoras

    Before, I'd sorta come to think of Ocarina as a triumphant product of its time. I mean, I've been in love with it since 98, and I knew it to be gaming's Citizen Kane moment. But the minute details you put on display in this series kinda shatters that myth: Limited though it was by hardware (as are we all), the polish and love in this game is of the absolute highest degree―Ocarina really is _timeless_

    • @myleswithay1362
      @myleswithay1362 2 года назад +3

      I think that's what a lot of people miss when re-evaluating the game - the details in the game aren't just mild flourish, they help to keep the graphics and environments from being *severely* dated by the low polygon count. People tend to get hung-up on the textures and geometry since it is the most apparent aspect of the game (and as someone who loves great low poly art I think it, and Majora's Mask, look great), but the subtle ambient effects, such as the wild track, lighting values, dynamic sky textures, and dynamic weather, keep the world from feeling static, bizarre, and blatantly artificial and limited. There is still breath in these flat textures and simple polygons. Those who can get past the graphics can find themselves immersed in this world.
      I also think one thing that makes it so fun to go back to is the subtle gameplay details, such as the notable systemic elements. I love how any wooden texture can be hooked into with the the hookshot, much like Thief's Rope Arrows. It results in less telegraphed situations where the hookshot can be used and requires players to try things they may not think might work, only to be surprised it does. The clawshot is a surface-level innovation to the hookshot as it allows the player to hang onto a target (follow-up actions are often identified, perhaps misguidedly, as proof of greater depth), but what it really does is shrink the amount of surfaces the item can interact with down to just grates and vines. If you forgot to plant a Magic Bean in the Kakariko Graveyard as a child when you first pull the Master Sword, you can stand on one of the graves and hookshot into the wooden box containing the Heart Piece to obtain it. That's the kind of player possibility that is missing from the post-N64 Zelda games and wouldn't see a return until Breath of the Wild.
      The game has certainly aged, but those aesthetic and mechanic details means it has aged far slower and far less than its often given credit for. Elements so subtle that their effects are felt, but perhaps not consciously observed.

    I always thought that it was a missed opportunity to keep Zora's Domain and Fountain frozen. It would've been a nice addition to have extra content after the water temple, like a new game instead of the diving one and other stuff. The developers probably ran out of time and kept it as it is, and you can tell by how empty Zora's Fountain looks without Jabu-Jabu.

    When I was young, I always wondered where Link went to exit Hyrule after defeating Ganondorf & putting back the Master Sword in the Temple of Time. Everywhere you go it's surrounded by mountains or tall walls of dirt like in the Lost Woods where you can only travel through hollow tree trunks. So when I saw that opening of a forest up the lake of where Jabu Jabu was, I figured it must have been there that he went since it's started in a forest at the beginning of Majora's Mask. But how could he have gone there with Epona xD

    I think its a good bet that originally those ‘ghosts’ made it to Kakariko in the adult timeline but that changed as development progressed and they were removed from the main map but not cutscene map.
    Would have been cool if the guard was still there after all this time, the last soldier of Hyrule still standing guard.

    Another note about the Water Temple and environmental changes: Upon Morpha’s defeat, the perpetual rainstorm in Lake Hylia ends (in addition, of course, to the cutscene of the water returning to a purified state and rising). It is also interesting to note that, even in its “impure” state, Link is able to be in Lake Hylia’s water without harm, as opposed to the swamp water in the Southern Swamp in Majora’s Mask, which is hazardous prior to Odolwa’s defeat in the Woodfall Temple.

    Something to let people know, I sometimes be watching ZFL play a randomizer of this game. Dungeons and caves changed, the merchant the game and different spots, and even the different forms between the original OoT and Master quest. He even conducted a way to collect for a chance to have key rings. And even some of the bosses are not in their own dungeons sometimes.

    My theory about the cutscenes was that at least some of them were probably made earlier in development. Especially in the title screen cutscene; it was probably a proof of concept thing in the later half of the game's development. Some of the random characters being in the Kakariko/Death Mountain cutscene could be explained with "the cutscene crashed when we deleted the models for some reason so we kept them in."

    I'm not sure if you have covered this or not, but I think the rotating platform in the windmill is really a floating ice block. As child Link when you stand on it, he starts to shiver and sneeze as the platform rotates!

    • @Blazingflare2000
      @Blazingflare2000 2 года назад +18

      Adult and child link both act cold and sneeze inside the windmill because the map is physically connected with Dampe's grave without a loading transition. Most graves and spooky places (including Dampe's grave) have the cold environment flag set, and that flag can only be set or unset on room load. So the windmill also has the cold environment flag set as a result.

I sat waiting for him for a half hour just now, got impatient, looked to see where he was, and he hadn't moved. I tested it by letting him move a few steps, looking away for a minute or two and looking again and yeah Dampe does not seem to move at all unless you have him onscreen

  • @KARLOSPCgame
    @KARLOSPCgame 2 года назад

    From what i learned from another channel [Dev topic]
    Because when in development the maps weren't finalized and the cutscene people need it to work the engine is made with the feature to freeze the map characteristics so if later some of the map was changed, it does not affect the cutscene because it will load the original map from when the cutscene was made.
    What does this mean, it means you can see beta maps when a cutscene triggers (Like in the Metal boots room when Sheik talks to you).

  • @ciknay547
    @ciknay547 Год назад +1

    The different characters in kakariko are probably just leftover from a previous version of the map. It's most likely whoever made the cutscene just copied the map data as it existed to make the cutscene, but then the town changed afterwards.
