Regarding the Pokémon reference in the German version of the game: If you talk to Malon wearing the Keaton Mask also in the German version, she will reference Star Fox by asking if you are Fox McCloud and that she has heard a lot about you.
I’ve played Ocarina of Time more times than I can count and I had no idea darkness actually affected guards seeing you or not. What an incredible achievement for 1998
Ocarina of Time feels so unique and its gameplay holds up to this day. The unique atmosphere is largely thanks to the music and soundscape, but the artstyle and graphics in general are great as well. Great video!
I saw ZFG illustrating it once by making their vision visible. They are basically shooting out a bunch of spheres in the direction they look, and when such a sphere collides with Link, he is discovered. At night the spheres don't travel as far before they disappear.
I usually infiltrate Gerudo Fortress at night, but just to do some roleplay lol. Never thought it was actually better or that my playful logic was the correct intended one.
I brought up the Gerudo diminished sight at night multiple times. Glad to see it covered finally with so much detail. I cant remembef if the same applies to the Royal guards. Although at night they reinforce the security, that its why Link gets instantly caught when entering the courtyard. Btw, pay attention to the lighting & shadows of the game. There are quite a few details that not many games had at that time. For example, they even simulated soft shadows for links model as the shadow gets away from the light source.
I'm impressed at the work and dedication Nintendo put into the Zelda games. With people talking about them decades later. Most games released these days can't even manage a few years before being ignored altogether.
I was so stoked to see another one of your videos for ocarina of time. You could make 100 parts for this and I would watch every single one of them. Great work once again!
The gerudo detail does make sense, night causing reduced visibility. I'm just so used to doing the fortress during the day (so I can listen to the music) that I never noticed this before
Did not expect a part 19 to appear so soon. Though it is good to see some suggestions taken from the community. Was unaware the cucco lady reacted to your masks...
IMO, it would have been even cooler if only guard *vision* was reduced during night but guard *hearing* was reduced during DAY instead. As it's easier, not harder, to hear quiet noises during night. Because the background noise level from nature and people is much lower. But I guess a simple mechanic favoring gameplay/fun over realism is the better choice in the end.
Glad to see my tip about German Zelda reacting to the Keaton Mask with a Pokemon reference made it here. :D The Gerudo stealth section is also surprising! I should attempt that on my next randomizer run.
So, next time, I should infiltrate Gerudo Fortress during nighttime. Awesome video! The one with the German version of the game making a Pokemon reference was cool!
Cursing, and rolling into the water, also breaking every bone in their body, and releasing a stored fairy. Link's trying no to laugh at Sheik for 'rolling a natural one' on the exit, and exclaims "Don't worry, buddy. Nobody saw that." Then, because Link spoke, they had to refilm it and the second time Sheik dove in the place the ripples appear when the camera angle changes. For some reason the final product uses parts of both shots. (Nintendo seems to be leaning towards a female sheik, but originally went for male? I dodged the controversy entirely! ... Unless you're offended by neutral pronouns?)
@@Wendy_O._Koopa Lol love the detailed description! I was always told and read that Zelda used magic to literally change her body's shape into Sheik, and since Sheik appears to have the body of a male, I understood that as Zelda turning herself into a male. But since it is still technically Zelda with Zelda's consciousness, I suppose Sheik could also be seen as female.
@@feathero3 It's just a disguise, the only thing that really changed is the eye colors. Sheik still has a feminine figure, but we can see that she has bandages holding her breasts and the turban probably hides her long hair.
@IZU Exactly how Misou seems to interpreted it as well given Shiek’s appearance in Hyrule Warriors and how it’s clearly a girl under that ninja getup due to the obvious feminine figure. I’m guessing the blockiness of the N64 character model is to blame regarding the confusion over whether Zelda only magically altered her eye color or her entire body in order to assume her Shiek persona since I don’t seem to have any doubts as to which is the case in the 3DS version of OoT.
Hey looygi, here's something I noticed in Ocarina of Time, that doesn't work in Majora's Mask: In OoT, if you hit a hanging Skulltula with a Deku Stick to make it swing side to side, then stun it with a Deku Nut when it's at an angle, when it unfreezes from the stun it will remain stuck at that angle but still raise up and drop down properly vertical. I tried this in Majora's Mask as well but they changed how Deku Sticks work on the Skulltulas.
1. It's the Poopachu Mask! 2. Apparently while this same behavior is in the Japanese version of Majora's Mask, it was cut from the English version. At least that's what I read somewhere, I'm not sure if it's true or not. 3. Wouldn't it be weird if that was a thing with Dungeon keys at some point in development? 4&5. Stuff like this is always interesting to see. 6. That's both weird and fascinating. 7. This one I knew. I've been hit by the flame around the corner. 8. I love this custom camera you guys have going. So many interesting things we've seen. Just another way this game and games like it have really opened up over the years. 9. Does anything actually cause the splash and ripples? Or is it just an effect added to that point on the water to complete the illusion?
2. The English version and the Japanese version are literally the same, you can pick a Japanese rom, change a single byte and I'll have the English version, that's the only difference. 9. Just an effect.
@@Mari_Izu Not sure if my deleted comment will show up in your notifications or not, but if it does, whoops, I was thinking about the wrong game and didn't double check.
@@Mari_Izu Okay, well I'd made a comment as if we were talking about Majora's Mask instead of Ocarina of Time. I'd been dealing with an infection and my mind was hazy.

I use to only sneak past the Gerudos at night, but only to be more immersed in the game and in character, acting more like someone would in real life. Didn't know it was making an actual difference!
Maybe it's just all N64 fire effects look really similar, but the fire blast King Dodongo does looks a lot like the fireballs on Solar in Star Fox. Wonder if they recycled that?
If you kill a Stalfos, it will fall on its back and die however if you finish it from behind it will fall on its knees instead..! it’s amazing how many enemies have different dying animations
I’m now laughing at the hypothetical cutscene where Shiek tries to make a flashy exit and instead brains himself on the ground because he missed the water
I was 100% expecting the gerudo guard to be able to see link at night, but I guess it's kinda hard to see him at night, even though he's wearing a green tunic lol.
Wow, this custom camera seems to work incredibly well, allowing rather cinematic motions. With this camera, you could turn the game into an actual movie.
Someone should tell Terminalmontage to put this in “Something About Ocarina of Time Part 4” before Link went to Water Temple. Would be funny for Sheik to dodge Link’s attack by disappearing, goes on top of the tree, attempt to dive into the water but ends up on land.
ooh there's more :D I was wondering why gerudo sight seemed so inconsistent.. it was the time of day.. and wow, i bet almost nobody has ever seen that key dialogue.
im not sure, if it already was in a video but in the german version, the 4 prisoners in the gerudo fortress are named after the beatles. John, George, Ringo and Paul
If people are making requests with the custom camera, if might be cool to know if anything is happening when Kaepora Gaebora flies Link off Death Mountain or from Lake Hylia. Obviously you just spawn in Kakariko or the field, but if anything's going on during the POV flight segments.

We had a whole farewell for Cool Things in Majora, but there’s STILL more surprises in Ocarina?! I’m always impressed with this series.
That’s why I wasn’t saddened by Majora’s Mask’s end cuz there’s probs gonna be 50 more videos…

Lots of enemies behaviour changed in Majora's Mask.
To be fair, diving into the dirt is _much_ softer than diving into a pile of gold coins.
