      No big deal. Sailboats and the technology that hundreds of men have invented - from GPS to radios, Starlink, autopilot etc, tested and manufactured by brave men over the years, have made sailing so simple even us women can now sit on a sailboat and let it steer across the world. Funny to see middle aged women pretend like it is some great accomplishment. Just wait for a woman to sit in a self-driving tesla on a "record" drive across the country or world. Stupid "record".

      @@Coleen_West not sure who you are or what you do look at all the men that dropped out do not make light of or downgrade this amazing feat. @@ericargento4429 ..Let me explain it clearly so even you can understand it. At some point even us women get sick of this sort of women are heroes nonsense and want to tell the truth. Look, my sister got on a Boeing 777 and flew business class around the world but that "record" doesn't make her Amelia Earhart (look her up if you don't get the reference). The point is that these records are not meaningful anymore as men have made all forms of transport super easy and convenient and very very soon it will be all self-driving computer stuff. After about the 1970s these "sit and ride" events stopped be an accomplishment (except to the builders) - yes there is still some limited risks and you might barf a few times. But today it is simply a function of funding, sitting and dealing with boredom (most of the time she was sleeping) - with enough money you could put a puppy in a yacht and power it across the globe. A big nothing burger. Women are standing on the shoulders of the innovation and ingenuity of real hero - the men that came before them and invented everything from fiberglass, GPS, computers, satellite internet communication systems and paved the waves. If she wants to claim a real record, let her jump in a 1930s sailboat without any tech or anything not in existence in 1930 and see her do it. Zero chance of success.

      @@Coleen_West Insightful perspective. However, the countless technical problems that can arise from broken technologies still requires courage and skill to survive traversing the oceans solo. Even with current technologies, many seasoned sailors today still wouldn’t accept or be able to endure the challenge. But I agree with your historical perspective on sailing. Compared to the accomplishments of ancient sailors, Cole's achievement feels much more comfortable and safe.

    • @Coleen_West
      @Coleen_West 4 месяца назад

      @@stryngh ..agreed. The fawning over this "accomplishment" is sickining. .. few bother with this type of "accomplishment" since it has been rendered meaningless. Few people are out there driving cars across the world as it is a pointless exercise as anyone can do it if you have the time. Heck, Tesla will soon let you sit and sleep as it self-drives across the world. Whatever. The reason these events were important 100 years ago was because it was a genuine challenge back then. People died regularly trying to sail the world, climb the mountains, drive across the desert etc. Now they cross it in air conditioning while listening to sat radio. Heck, even a girl could do it. So let's all get over it already. Go do something meaningful like cure breast cancer. But women won't accomplish that either- some super smart man will. It's the way of the world and it is time to acknowledge the truth and who actually contributes most and drives things forward. Women doing or reinventing what men already invented or accomplished, is not an accomplishment at all. It's sad actually. Watching so-called "men" fawn over it is nauseating.

    How did she give herself her own IV? I thought you had to have a medical license to even purchase those bags.

    She is NOT the first woman to sail around the world non-stop. Kirsten Neuschafer was and did it in a much older boat. GET IT CORRECT Today.

      She was the first American woman and most outlets have been clear about that.

    She isn’t the first…..maybe American because there is an Australian girl who sailed solo Circumventing the Earth…..
    It seems that when someone NEW does something people forget who the Original FIRST person is……

    You couldn’t just celibate that this person sailed around the world.
    We always have to make it a celebration of gender or ethnicity.
    When we learn to celebrate an individual’s accomplishment we can stop looking for a story that is not the story.
    The story is a local sailed around the world

    Drop the "inclusive" bs. Sailing is for a select group that chooses to take it on. This type of sailing is only for the very best, without regard to gender, color or inclusivity.
