What a nice ole rig. I've got an '86 F150, 351W/T18/4x4. Was my first vehicle, I bought it when I was in 11th grade in 1999. Drove it around for years with long tube headers, no cats, and glasspacks. Had both 2.5 inch pipes ran down the passenger side and stuck out in front of the rear tire. Being an old granny 4 speed with 4.10s she'd rap out to about 5000rpms before shifting outta first at 25mph, usually while getting an extremely irritated look from whoever was driving next to me on the right side 😂
My inner high-schooler finally went away about the time I turned 40... I put a pair of gigantic dynomax turbo mufflers on it and had the tail pipes ran out the back. Still probably too loud for any uppity stock exhaust having non car person, but it turned the volume down quite a bit inside the cab.
The seatbelt buckle slowly coming up had me rolling😂
Back in the early nineties I worked for a Ford at a dealership I used to like the fox bodies about the GT's had an exhaust system that sounds so cool . I always wanted to put that exhaust system in an f250 that I had for about 6 months but it was an automatic so it wouldn't sound the same
I will say the 302 sounds great after you did this and the buff on the paint is sick looks amazing 👏

You don't have to start in first gear. It's what we called a granny gear. It's really only used if pulling or towing some weight. Other than that always start in Second gear when you just driving around.

Coincidentally, I just came in from my garage after staring at the underbody of my 1959 F100 Panel Truck, trying to figure out how to route the exhaust. Same deal, gas tank is in pretty much the same place. I like what you did with the x-pipe. It's a great idea. Crazy timing for this video.

Oh, so this is just an X-pipe not a nascar X-pipe. You say it's a step down, I think it's a step up. You are still running high school exhaust on your other vehicles, once you get a little older that will change. I had a custom exhaust built for my supercharged Z-28 with 2 chamber flowmasters then took the flowmasters off for a set of stainless turbo mufflers. Like that sound, but that's me. I have had loud and obnoxious, now I like a good throaty tone. This exhaust you built sounds nice, welding looks like shit but hey it works.

Yeah truck definitely sounds way better and I like the exhaust setup with the X-Pipe . I'm sure the headers helps a bit for sure to breathe better especially with no cat and no more missions bullcrap

Hello Craig I have a 1971 f100 sport custom with stock 302 and I used 87-93 stock mustang headers and made my own duel 2 inch exhaust with thrush turbo mufflers it's nice in the city but on the hwy the drone is enough to give you a headache lol

I understand that this is stainless exhaust and i see that you are mig welding it. Is that just regular mild steel wire that you use to weld the stainless exhaust together? Seems to work well. I'd hate to pay for a tig just to weld stainless exhaust

My exhaust muffler of choice is usually glass pack mufflers lol!!!
I don’t know if this is similar to my 86 5.0 Capri but my distributor module started to flake out and cause a random misfire. Needed a special socket but a easy fix. Check it out maybe the same issue before it causes a hg issue? NM you already solved it!

turn the wire speed on your welder down a bit will make much nicer welds on exhaust pipe's love the look of the truck :)

I’ve done exhaust on about 10 80-90s ford vehicles with 5.0s and the 3 I did duals on all got x pipes because that’s the only way too go

i got a dual chamber manga flow muffler and it the best muffler ive put on my truck sounds super good but this beats it hands down

I installed Black Widow Neighbor Haters on my 77 F150. Moderately built 460. Routed the tips to dump in front of right rear tire. I'm impressed as hell with them.

Did the exhaust smell improve? I realize older vehicles have this distinct smell and it’s likely due to an old catalytic converter.

I just bought all the rest of my exhaust components for my 74 chev pickup. Bought the headers, n mufflers, and its gunna sound mean.

I think it depends on the muffler, old school flow master 40’s, they sound pretty damn cool through a h pipe.

Hey man don’t feel bad I didn’t have to do that my jeep the first day I drove it up somewhere and back the muffler fell off it burnt the side of my bumper because it’s plastic and it fell off so I cut the rest of it off it’s funny and it’s loud too because it’s got a cat on it in a straight pipe but I’m gonna turn around and I’m gonna take the whole exhaust off and then I’m going to put a header for reset it for a straight six and go from there and put the pipe in probably eightPut a short muffler to make it a low tone and make it sound better and my jeep is a 2000 jeep
