Sounds like you’re running a auto trans starter than the manual trans starter. They both have different engaging depths. Learned from experience!
That was my first thought too.
Ford has a auto starter and a manual starter. The auto starter will hang on a flywheel for a manual. I found that out the hard way doing a manual swap in a 90 ford
They are listed as automatic or manual starters at the parts houses, but it doesn't really have anything to do with the transmission. I had to put an automatic starter on a manual fox Mustang I had. It has to do with the teeth on the flywheel.
Very bold of a California man to treat emissions equipment that way💀
There are plenty of "entrepeneurs" in California that could've removed that equipment much more quickly.
Become ungovernable.
Good luck getting that truck registered in California with that 'modified' emissions equipment.
@@jaynecobb6711 should be emissions exempt
@@jaynecobb6711if there were only 49 other states🤔
YOU HAVE TO CHANGE STARTER TO MANUAL STARTER!! The truck was originally an automatic so if you used the same starter then the bottom of gear rubs on the flywheel. what happened was the gear grinding and eventually broke off. All you have to do is go to parts store and get the starter the m5od manual transmission. That will 100% fix your issue unless you damaged flywheel which probably didn't to bad. I know some years of the trucks you can mess with spacers but I'm not 100% I personally would just go buy a new one thats for manual m5od and call it done.
You are correct. I looked at the 1986 -1987 F150 starters on rockauto for the auto trans compared to the manual trans. They are physically different than one another, part numbers are also different.
Automatic to manual conversions. I 1000% approve
Exhaust is just optional if you got enough HP
Hermano siempre miro tus videos saludos desde Mendoza Argentina!!!!!
love this bullnose build!!!!
FYI ON Ford theirs 's difference in The starters. there are some that have a spacer on the armature that will move the Bendix about 1/8 of an inch back and not allow it not as far into the flywheel. I had a Lincoln that the mechanic put 5 starter in before we figured it out. A 1985 Town car too LOL🤔
I wore your “Small Block Killer” shirt to Dallas Mecum auction today. You are known well my friend. Congrats!
I’m happy with the progress made on my bronco project last night. I fixed the front end. It finally has a grill and the fender lines up properly. It was wrecked a long time ago and was used around our farm after my dad bought it for 1000 bucks from a junkyard. There’s a huge amount of work to do but it’s coming along great
He'll yeah, ive been waiting for more more on this truck, good work
Got the sticker's I ordered, Yes another one back on the road!😁
I have subscribed just now. I found you on a junkyard diggs video. I like the content and I'm now going to watch some of the previous videos. Keep up the good work.. ✌️👍🇬🇧
I had one of those in a F350. The firewall flexed when I pushed the clutch. I had to add a metal reinforcement panel.
can't wait to hear this thing with a black widow exhaust
I haven’t messed with starters in a long time, but I do recall manual Fords having a spacer ring under the starter motor.
I like those 86 fords. I have had mine for 30 years , 460 4speed 4x4 . One ton axles stock . Also no cat from factory
need a matching manual starter. awesome video tough keep us updated on it, these are one f my favorite year fords. grew up around the obs generation but these and the 70s trucks where always around. from H-TX
Did something similar to my 83 F150, except that as well as converting to 5-speed I also converted it from 2wd to 4wd. Made it much more fun to drive.
Craig you would NOT make a living as a catalytic converter thief lol
Love to see the Cali boys tossin epa out the window. Much love from Canada
Good ole truck !
Great truck.
Thanks for this series. I would love to manual swap my 85 f150
Definitely a nice truck!
the starter for a manual is different than the one for and automatic. different gear count.
All the other car-tubers show the love for the hobby. Craig is all beating crusty exhaust with a dull sawzall blade....
Great looking truck
That. Oise wround the 13:30 mark is what is refered to as "Self Clearancing"
I love the truck. It reminds me of my 86 Ford F150 4x4
sweet dude! checkout the billet shifter I make for the zf5-6 might be cool to throw in the truck
Awesome truck. Can’t wait to see it 4 WD
at 13:15 in the top right you can see a what looks to be a wrench in the top right
That thing looks so good and simple
Great job
Its crazy how quite that trans is. My sm465 whines like crazy on decel, but thats hevy duty trans life
Clean one owner🤘
Great stuff thanks
Love the series Man, keep it coming.
Check out this beautiful truck
87-91 carpet will go right in that truck craig. I have a 84 F350 with a 7.3 idi and a zf5. I had to find the right tunnel cover when i got because the people that had it before me just hacked the original cover for the 4speed up. Once i found the correct tunnel cover tge correct shit boot and the right carpet everything went back together and looks much nicer in the cab
I have that same exact seat in my 70 F100. I upgraded it myself.
immediately clicked on this. hell yeah 🤘
That's a damn good-looking truck I have two of them myself👍
Mine made same when I put i put shim on starter it stopped
RAD! Keep the truck content!!!!
Never knew ya could get a 2WD (or 4WD?) ZF5 behind a SBF... Hummn!
These trucks use 2 different starters. A different one is used for the automatics vs
the manuals.
was just thinking about this lol
transmission just blew in my obs f150. would manual swap it but i don’t have the knowledge or experience. so in goes another automatic
As much as I mentioned my gm gbody cars would you believe that i almost bought a redone 86 ford f150 300 L6 4spd EFI forest green metallic xl, manual shift, window steering and brake truck, and it needs a bed i had planned on getting a CADET brand heavy duty flatbed with the tool boxes up under the bed but the black steel version.... but I ended up getting a 84 Oldsmobile cutlass supreme brougham and swapped in a 91 Chevy Camaro rs tpi 305 H.O. sbc to the stock th350c metric lockup automatic transmission made a great street cruising car ., anyway when I said redone I mean it got complete sides full pans, rockers and doors, and the seat got recovered and the dash pad top was replaced
These bullnose are starting to look better to me idk why.
Perfect candidate for a 302 coyote swap. Put like 3in lift on it, 4wd, coyote swap. Than tow your other truck with it on power tour.
You need a bronco to add to your arsenal. Have a extra minus engine
Great video i love that truck brother!
You have to buy a different starter for a manual.
Hopefully you aint doing more damage should that fly well like eating the teeth off of it from the starter. You know, I just converted my Chevy back into a forward drive from An Automatic to A Stick A Little Easier Because It Was Once A Chevy Fourward Drive and I blew up my killers so I had to put it on a magic system in it now. My killer is fixed and I am putting my stick back in it. And I'm having issues but I like your contact. Don't think i'm badgering you because i'm not
Starters are cheap! Now you need to find the rest of the dashboard pieces. Yes, I agree I too would daily the crap out of that truck.
love these vids
Must be nice swapping one in a truck that it came in from the factory. I swapped one in a 65' f100.
What starter did you end up finding that worked? I’m going to be a doing a zf5 swap into my 67 f250
As a starter......NOT COOL MAN...NOT COOL...
honestly i agree with that guy, i have never ever ever heard anything that horrible in a trans swap
i thought i may have been the pilot bearing bearings seizing or something in the transmission because the big detail i noticed is that the noise wouldnt change when you revved the engine, so it could not be the flywheel or anything connected directly to the engines rotations. oh well hope you find out what it us
That's a zinger sound. Scratch. scratch, rub, rub, it revs up and zing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! whatever it was is now gone!! zing!!!!!!!!!!!!
Cool
I have a 1979 Ford F-150 with a 400 and stick shift but I want it automatic but don't want the C6 any recommendations
My fav rig amongst your fleet . It has a sick stance and what kind of exhaust will you be running ? Cheers . 🇨🇦
Or maybe a Gibson performance exhaust system.
It maybe not fit in transmission housing
You plan on leaving it EFI or carb swap?
How’d the clutch fork work, what did you use or did you fab one?
Be careful towing with a stock 302. Its a car motor with 0 torque. Blue up 2 motors in a 80 F 150 with 3.23 gearing . A 300 six is a better choice for torque. Manual tranny will help. BTDT. 3/4 ton will help on gearing. 351M is a good one. Or 460.
Backing up when you threw it in Reverse!
Cherry bomb glass pack it,or go to the parts store and buy a magnflow rumble muffler
What’s wrong with this picture…it’s Craig’s truck. He should be pushing… lol
How do I make my 94 sound like that?
wich trans is better Zf5 or M5OD??
Leeeets goooooo🔥🔥🔥
So with a first gen EFI, do you not have to reprogram the ECU to run a manual swap?
As long as it's not a computerized automatic, it doesn't really matter.
@@wallbanger1968 his is an AOD which I mistake for the AOD-E. My bad lol.
Don't correct the paint, make the rust all patina!
Keeping the rust?!?🤮
Starter delete ✅
When you put in a new starter Sylnoid if you don't get the wires right as it's running the alternator will run the starter
Still needs a 429 and a hog ass cam
Name the truck Clarence because it clearanced itself. Self healing F1 fiddy
So what four former? I bet the REST of the former employees would say "Kick the trans guy to the curb. let's sell beer."
That was some awful sound!
