I don’t understand why a lot of people love the patina….that truck has the bones of a BEAST!! Redo it all the way!!!
I can't stand it. I think it looks like shit. Yeah that's what I love to see, rust. 😂
These Bull and Brick nose Fords are becoming a POPULAR build here in Texas the last couple of years because they are the last of the actually affordable classic truck, I'm seeing more and more of them show up to cruise-ins and Cars and Coffee's. I work as a Government Civilian in San Antonio and there's a young soldier that has a 81 2wd F-150 that he's building into a street truck, we were talking the other day and asking him how it was going and he was saying it was going slow because he doesn't have access to a shop so he's doing it in the parking lot of his barracks and in the Auto Craft Center (shop the base has) when he can get in there so I offered him my storage shop, which is nothing more than one of those cheap car ports with the sides built on it and any big jobs I'll let him use my actual shop. I also have a homemade Paint booth that I'll let him use when he paints it, He's not going to do a full on build, basically a build as he drives truck, The one thing he REALLY wants is bucket seats and I just happen to have some bucket seats out of a 99 Escort that I picked up a couple years for like $25 that's probally never going to use, so I'm just going to give them to him, they are in really good shape, they just need cleaned up and dyed, his interior is Brown and the seats are grey so I just have him pick up a couple cans of duplicolor brown dye and i'll teach him how to dye seats. Nice job on this one but I think I would done a cheap rattlecan paint on the light silver, Maybe go grab 4 or 5 rattle cans of the Krylon Brushed Nickel rattle cans and then throw a cheap clear coat over the whole thing. I personally don't mind a patina paint job but there's a difference between Patina and Rust......
It's a generational thing. Most of us in our 50's/60's remember these trucks and want to relive our youth. Guess what, kids are out of the house, established in a good paying job, and they want that truck they always dreamed of. Before you know it, the 90's trucks will be in demand, then the 2000's. This cycle just keeps repeating itself every decade or so.
@@chrisstromberg6527 Yes and no, most of the ones I've seen are younger guys who remember their dad/uncle/grandpas truck and want one and they are now cheap enough for them to get their hands on.
Lot of work to get that done. Since your family are the original owners I would hope that you have a complete service history. There was a period of time when Ford had a service bulletin for repainting some mid-to -late 80's and early 90's trucks.
man thats a beautiful truck cant wait to see all the new parts go on it!
Big fan of older trucks showing some patina but clean look. Loving the video.
Beauty of a truck, love to see the progress on it.
Outstanding. Best color combo for those models in my opinion.
Fantastic - my first 1 ton was an 86 350 6.9 4 speed XLT truck with that exact paint and interior. I miss that old beast - love the old trucks.
Dude I love the things to do in that old truck keep up the good work I am restoring my 96 Chevy pickup single cab short wheel base I've been working at its last five years
Dude you have my heart bringing the souls back out in these old fords
Looks great Craig....def can see the results after the elbow grease, can't wait to see the next phase.
It's about time!!
I have a Mercury Colony Park Wagon of a similar vintage I've been working on. I've been excited for the release of this video cause I've wanted to try to fix the chalky faded paint for a while now and didn't really know how it would turn out, let alone what the steps were to fix it. So thanks for making this!
Awesome vid! Thank you for the amazing content Craig
Your chrome is going to make that rusty patina pop Craig. Tons a polishing products out there. Good work!
Just did this to my 86 Blazer -started with 400 grit, finished with 600, then buffed it out, looks amazing
Hey Brother thank you for the how too video ! My 1978 Ranger Lariat looks like hammered hell on the body and I wasn't sure how to proceed on the paint. There is no rust through anywhere on this truck and only light surface rust underneath but the entire body is surface rust and very dead paint and i cant afford a new paint job so I'll follow your lead and clean it up the best I can. Man I appreciate the help and I dig your BLUE OVAL videos so keep crankin` em out !
Beautiful work and beautiful truck
Big fan of bed mats. Horse stall mats arent expensive, and theyre not hard to cut to shape for a pretty professional look. They work great to keep your bed floor dent free, and they're easy to remove when you dont need the protection.
@@SpaceInTime1885 yeah, you have to really abuse the bed to screw up something with stall mats in the back. They are made for 800lb horses to walk on with shoes.
I stumbled onto an 84 F150 XLT a couple years ago. It had some work done to it and I invested into a little body work and a new paint job ( body wasn’t bad as it was originally a NC truck). We love driving our Bullnose… great job!
SOS pad on the bumper will bring it back easily.
Looks sweet! Thanks for sharing each step! Looking to do this to my 86 F150 soon. 25+ years of sitting outside in Ohio has taken a toll.
Nice Bro !
Update to my comment…
1. Wash with degreaser or dawn
2. Scrub panels using polisher with a wool pad on second wash
3. Spray down iron remover on the panels
4. Clay bar
Then you’re ready for sanding and then use clear Poppeys Patina for a top coat
Quad 0 steel wool works well too. It's about 400 grit sand paper. Lots of soapy water as lubricant and to flush dirt away. Light pressure.
It works wonders on paint like this, and is really good at feathering out patina, plus it works on glass and bright work.
@@Jordy-927great point. I used steel wool the first time back in the 80's. A old body guy showed me how to do it. On lacquer paint we used karaseen .
great out come, for a shop truck I think a rhino liner would be in the best interest
Came out really good, great work. Put on factory mirrors and leave it the way it is. 👍👍
yes more truck
I dig where you're coming from about it being a shop truck, but I would repaint it since it is so nice.
Sweet old truck!!
Came out great! Detail work is a science for sure
Came out great, I like it😀👍
The rusted sides looks pretty cool, almost intentional like a distressed rustic camo. The body is pretty good and straight too. It might be good enough to not go to Pick n' Pull
I got the entire grill, trim, and headlight bezels from LMC Truck, and its condition is holding very well. Had them on my 84 Bronco for years now and still looks great.
be wary of getting fenders from LMC ive read of fitment issues from people on Bullnose forums
Blow it up already!😂 👍
Love the truck, reminds me of a buddy's back in the day (F250 extended cab longbed w/460). Same color combo. Wonder if yours was repainted under recall, my buddy's was.
Tip on the chrome. Mothers Mag wheel polish and 0000 steel wool. Stuff is magic on dull chrome, used it on the bumpers on my 67 Buick and several vintage BMX bike frames.
A lot of these trucks, like mine only had the front half of the truck repainted. Mine was blended in the middle of the doors and the bed is still original paint. The repaint lacquer checked badly compared to the original paint on the bed.
909 baby ✊🏼 living in az ND keeping my 909 area code number
That transformation is impressive! That’s awesome.
Looks like it just rolled off the production line, man what a transformation.🤑
Liking the new f150 man ! That means a lot from a bow tie guy
Awesome, came out great, I like it👍
beautiful truck, wish to own one for myself one day
I have used Ajax or Comet first with sponge and then hand was with dawn
What a transformation!
the truck looks amazing, great stuff thanks.
This gives me hope , on my 2005 ford f150 😅
Hey like your show. You might take the trim panel off the tail gate. I bet it will look great with out that but not my truck. And it looks great.
Definitely leave the trim panel on and put the red reflector back on. As of right now no one repops that panel. They only used that particular panel on 85 and 86’s.
Awesome truck man. Great job.
I've been so excited for this one
Peeps stang looking slick in the background.
Great job. I love cars with show room shine....no patina for me.
Brings back memories of my first car a 1983 Chevy Blazer K5 lots of surface rust the first thing i did was go over the whole car with a green scouring pad and then used some rattle can clear coat afterwards obviously i didn’t know what i was doing but it look ok! 😂
Super sick
Nice work man. Should clear coat the whole pickup and lock in all that beautiful patina.
It looks awesome now
AWESOME!!!!!!
I was observing the back ground and I think it’s Escondido love to see this at grand on Friday
Nice work! Cool truck!
I’ve used repop bullnose headlight and grill chrome and for the price it looks great. The area recessed around the headlight is actually supposed to be black, and it will change the whole look of the front of the truck with just the surrounds changed.
Nope The recessed around the headlights wasn't black from factory.
Mine came from factory a dark gray 🤷🏻♂️
Very nice, I found one of these trucks I want to go ask about soon…
I'm so used to watching the variety of folks who I watch that I see some dude out and it's sunny and I'm like wtf
Very helpful! Gonna do this to my Jeep
Tainted raptor liner the same gray as the truck would good in the bed
Wow, wish my truck looked that good
Have a 92 f150 that has some patina on it not much but definitely do want to keep it.
Love your passion. Sort of. 😆
I love the truck. I may have to paint my 86 Ford.
I can’t believe you used the same pad over the rust as the better paint, that’s ballsy.
Love the patina though, it wears it well.
It will look good when painted.
000 Brillo and basically wet sand the rusty areas and it’ll take the rust off and the factory paint will still be under the rust basically the surface rust is above the paint it’s amazing how much difference it makes
I’m ok with the patina but the center panels with rust and different colors takes away from the look.
I’d get rid of the Rusty center section and either match or find a good contrast color.
Its crazy. 15 years ago when I was starting out, all I could afford were these junky old Bullnose trucks. I could buy a rust free bullnose in Oklahoma for $1000. Popularity is rising FAST
Man awesome job. Especially liked that you did it for us DIY'ers that aren't really detailers. I have the same year truck and digging those wheels and tires. Just have skinny stock ones on it now but it's our farm truck and it needs some more meat. Can you share details on them. Liked and subbed. Cheers brother!
Sweet truck!! Actually my 06 Ford F-350 FX4 Diesel states in the manual to wash the engine...albeit you have to cover up the fuse and relay boxes...It actually states "A clean engine runs more efficient"...
11 days!!!!!! 11 days!!!!!!!! C’mon man
What’s the wheel/tire combo? Looks awesome!
SEM sells Clear Chip Guard that you could run to texture the bed a bit but leave it painted.
Like ur ha ir cut and color vs. Truck … nice
Chamo ese corte de cabello 💇🏼 te queda espectacular 😊😎
cool patina
Where’s the 5 speed crown Vic video? Lol I’ve been waiting for it
Its worth it....! Body is so straight, I can't believe it. Check this.... I looked, and looked for a early 90s 4x4 F-250 it had to have a ZF trans, 460,reg cab bench seat. I live in LA. no luck. I found one in Portland Oregon, ( 90,91,92,and this one is a 93) all 460s. Ebay is where I saw it. Funny Wifes and Vehicles I never thought tooo.
Absolutely beautiful paint body interior, look like it was kept in the garage. The first thing rip pi ed off the spare tire... What was worse is the bracket they took. Didn't think I would ever find one.
Then a drunk cholo side swiped it all the way down the left sids, I was lucky the 2 cars behind me destroyed. Hit and run. Then the catlitic converter $3100, then pry bared the hood open less than a month old battery.
AND THIS HAS ALL HAPPENED WITH OUT LEAVING THE CURB.
While looking for a shop to tow the truck to for the converter, I went to get a number off the truck.
Its gone. I go to LAPD cop shop and an say I hope you guys towed my truck off, because if you didn't I got a even bigger problem.
IT TURNED OUT TO BE GOOD NEWS THEY DID...... $650 impound, $125 tow to the muffler shop, $185 battery.
I swear to god this is the truth. And after it is done I get to park it right back where all this happened at.... Yea.!
I am a 73 yr old Army Vet with PTSD., 100% Service connected unemployable. I could not stand it, I started sleeping in the truck 10 pm till daylight. Then go in my apt. That freeked out the manager of the apt and he called the cops on me. My very favorite toy for protection is a Japanese pull saw 24" handle, very sweet, and a oak table leg.
I sleep like a rock in that truck and no body ambushes me and I am left alone. I put heavy black plastic trash bags on the visors and that blacks out the world front and cut a third one apart for the driver and passenger door windows. (lay the third bag cut the 3 edges leaves ya 2 pieces.
I was a Pipefitter /welder and designed the best antithief configuration for converter I ve seen.
I love ZF S5 42 TRANSMISSIONS.
Being in LA you would think pick a part yards would have Ford parts. 30 years I guess thats along time for picken parts.
Love to see it!
my ol 1989 f150 needs a paint job too! just struggling to figure out the best color for it
I bought a 72 international travelall. All of the lenses were faded. You can paint them with tinted clear coat to make them the proper color and get the shine back.
put the bed liner back in that is the only thing that really works to save truck beds .That spray on garbage ruins beds.
The nylon ball bearings in the window motor are likely toast. Replace them with some 3/8 or 1/4 inch nuts then you’ll be good.
I would have liked to see how the roof came out and how you handled it.
Get some vice grip garage wipe on clear coat.
Does this truck have any kind of a lift on it or stock? Love watching the progress on the truck!
Do you guys have CLR in Cali? Calcium Lime Rust remover. Good stuff. Take some CLR and a worn down green scratchy pad, and knock some of that rust down. Not trying to remove it all, just take it from a sunburn to a sun tan.
Time is $ but time is only $ if u are paying someone to do it. Looks so much better
That turned out really good. All those silver and grey trucks got repainted in the 80s or it would not have any paint left on the roof hood
DAMN
less words and more work ( results)
Rhino line that bed bro. You will not regret it
Craig ... GREAT JOB! Really like you tires. Can you take a minute and reply with the brand and tire size ?
Hell yea!
Dude a tinted rhino liner would be sweet. Keep it gray so it’s not noticeable
You cleaned that up pretty good. It will be nice for the customers at Pick n' Pull
Two wheel drive 86 f250 302 v8 base model 8' ft bed could get 22 mpg on the highway...
That was n still is great mpg for 3/4 ton
