@@UltimateTobi I agree which is why i mentioned the odds as been statistically low for such a big plot point as the shattering of the Mirror of Twilight to be undone during the course of the story. One thing which keeps this scenario from been totally impossible is this: Tears of the Kingdom might be the _end_ of the "Ganon Saga". Seeing as Nintendo is always free to reboot the franchise by ending Ganondorf for good that gives them every reason to bring back past events and characters to the narrative as a big wrap up that will make players look back at the series's history and fill them with nostalgia and love for the past games as they all played a part in Link's journey up until Tears of the Kingdom and the end of Demise's Curse. With such high stakes as the destruction of Hyrule at Ganondorf's hands the stage is set for a big epic confrontation which could easily bring forth all the major factions of the franchise together so that the current storyline may be given a proper conclusion to it's narrative.

    Couple of theories/predictions:
    - The monuments with the Zonai swirl are the new shrines, but they won't teleport you to a closed place. Rather you'll have to solve a puzzle/task in the nearby area.
    - There will be a dungeon for each tear.
    - Each dungeon will be like Eventide Island. You'll lose all of your gear and will have to build your way to get to the dungeon boss and beat them (I'll be honest, this is more of a hope than a prediction)

Asking which Zelda game is your favorite, to me, is like asking which is your favorite Lord of the Rings movie. They're all part of the same thing. I like the Wind Waker artstyle a lot, but I'm glad that Twilight Princess looks the way it does too. Some of the games might have stronger or weaker aspects than the others, but it would be difficult to rank them because they offer such a variety of experiences. And it seems like many of them capture that "Zelda-style" adventure pretty darn well.
Also, which is your favorite, and which would you most likely replay, are two different questions, in my opinion.

I think with regards to the ascend ability being active while Link is underwater, the reason the rune lights up when he's underwater has more to do with the way the game is calculating where the ascend can be used, and does not indicate underwater exploration is a feature. If the game calculates the surface of water as a flat surface, then the ascend ability registers this flat surface as a valid location. This may also be in case there is a large underground area, if that area takes you underneath a body of water, and you happen to find a valid ascend location there you are able to ascend up into the surface of the water.

I agree. There was literally no reason to exclude underwater exploration in BoTW, in lore or otherwise. How are they going to justify including it in the sequel? Like ‘tadaa’ you can just do this now? I’m mad by the way. BotW is the zelda game I’ve spent the most time with on a single save, but it’s also the only one in the series which I will never start again from scratch, owing to how much of a chore all the shrines were, how empty all of the rewards are, how basic and comparatively sterile the story is, how few enemy types there are etc. I know you didn’t ask, but man I’m bummed there’s no indication that the zelda formula isn’t being totally retired for a boring, disposable open-world format.

@@elmatasesues3630 Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love classic zelda games, but I love BotW too, despite how flawed it is. I'm hoping TotK fixes the problems with the plot, enemy variety, and lackluster dungeons. I've never seen the shrines as a chore or having empty rewards, because many of them are built around the game's physics, which I find fun. So the reward is getting to play the game. I'm bummed how so many zelda fans feel like they've been left behind or whatever by this game. I want people to be as excited as I am.

    • @elmatasesues3630
      @elmatasesues3630 Год назад

@@blueylewis9419 the only element of BOTW which I enjoyed was the absolute freedom it proposed. I say ‘proposed’ because said freedom is nullified by the absolute emptiness of its sandbox; you’re not going to find anything but shrines really, which offer exactly one reward. And when you find actual sidequests, they offer nothing of substance except a few ‘kawaii lolz’. Everything material in the game is disposable, and what’s worse is there’s no lore, no actual plot, no journey to distract you from all this void except a vicarious one, and that’s really Zelda’s journey, whom we don’t play as; and no matter where you go you encounter the same 5 lazy enemy designs; as opposed to enemy design based around the areas where they live-which became natural extensions of the lore like previous games-you just get element-oriented variations. *Even this* would even be tolerable if there were at least more obvious and direct references to the physical architecture of the previous games; I went looking for remnants of temples and structures only to find jack.
I would actually go as far as to say that BoTW was a misstep, that too much traditional design-philosophy had to be sacrificed in order to create this ‘open world’. What’s even more unacceptable is that this game was already released for a previous console, which means Nintendo had time to add new elements before re-release. But they didn’t, because they knew it had the zelda name on it, and people would buy it and love it regardless.

In response to a late note: Kid Icarus Uprising is amazing. It's one of the most underrated games of all time imo, because it's a 20 hour, fully voiced, lovingly crafted rollercoaster action narrative experience, on a Nintendo handheld, stuck with extremely awkward controls. That game is DYING to be uprezzed and ported to console. It's a GEM of a time with loads of replayablity and even an online multiplayer that could stand to be updated, as well.

I think there will be underwater exploration if only because of the ultrahand vehicle making feature. There is a high probability that you can make a vehicle that doesn't float as we've seen Link able to use the metal doors from the first game (the base of the 4 fan hovercraft in one of the trailers) and the stone? wheels that were pulled out from underwater. (EDIT: I think it's actually a decorated stone slab and not metal but it'll still probably sink lol) If he were to enclose himself in the vehicle and drive it underwater, it would be incredibly odd if the devs didn't design around this and not include some kind of underwater features. Even if he were forced to detach from the controls he would still get dragged underwater. Now will Link be able to freely swim around like SS/TP Link or fingers crossed like MM Zora Link, that remains to be seen. The Zora Armor should probably get repurposed for this or he gets a permanent swimming upgrade in the form of a Zora scale or something but who knows!

I really don't know about this. The original fights were straightforward to the point of being simplistic (easy Odolwa stunlock, Goht with arrows etc), so they at least tried to introduce some complexity and difficulty to them. Whether they succeeded in making them more fun or not is more of a matter of taste.
Most of the time the complaints I hear about the MM3D bosses is that they "added obvious huge eye weak points" which seems like a silly complaint when the weak points of the originals were their entire bodies.

I think the structure of divine beasts can work for larger dungeons.
What we love about dungeons are the unique aesthetics, music, enemies, mini bosses and bosses. But honestly the simplicity of the puzzles, linearity and formulaic item approach in a lot of them and had been getting tiring already by the time TP and SS came out.
A unique element that affects the whole dungeon and that you can control at any time, freedom of approach in it's objectives instead of gating off most of the place with keys, puzzles that can take advantage of the fact that you are given all of your abilities. Those are all good ideas that the divine beasts have that would just need to be added to properly themed, larger structures with enemies, bosses, etc...

My idea would be to use fuse or another ability to "consume" a weapon of the same type (sword for sword, spear for spear) to repair the durability of the weapon you want to keep. Then allow you to use maybe a mix of weapons and materials to upgrade weapons permanently (durability and power) similar to armor upgrades in botw. This would keep the need to find new weapons but also allow people to use the weapons they want and grow attached to them. I think it would give you a nice tangible sense of progression as well. I'm surprised I haven't heard this idea come up anywhere else already.

I'm honestly all in on this Zelda, even though I didn't care much for BoTW, simply because all the abilities link is given actually seem 10x more useful and interactive than the first:
Godhand isn't limited to just metal objects like magnesis, not to mention you can use it to actually fuse things together at the same time instead of just being limited to one object. There's also the new capacity to make basic machines and vehicles.
Reverse seems much more interactive than stasis, not only from a puzzle perspective or for traversing the world, but also for dealing with enemies in a way where I don't have to focus on pinpoint precision just to have a box to 10 damage to something where it would have been faster just to swing my sword.
Fuse means way more ways to fight enemies, as well as makes encounters more engaging with limited resources. I don't have to worry about only going in with a stick or a damaged weapon because I know I'll be able to find something to bolster the resources I already have, making actually fighting enemies a lot more likely to be worthwhile.
Plus the elemental effects are still in, adding even more variety.
    And more monster variety.
And more of hyrule to explore, with new base level encounters, floating islands, and underground section; each of which have more attention given to them considering that the base world and majority of assets were already created.
Considering all of this, the fact that it's 70$ actually makes sense; to me this is basically the 'complete' version of BoTW. Even if it doesn't have dungeons and follows the core design of BoTW, it has much more to look forward to in terms of what you actually do moment to moment in the game.
Plus I'm sure they'll include something akin to dungeons, even if they are small like the divine beasts, considering they've spent so long making the game. I just think they don't want to spoil the surprise.

The problem they have with the dungeon design is actually that link can climb anything. In BotW they canceled that out by making all the shrines and devine beasts sheikah technology and reasoned that link can't climb on sheikah surfaces.
If they do traditional dungeons there's like 4 options:
    1) Find a reason, no matter how stupid is may be, why Link can't climb in dungeons. No
    2) Have only certain surfaces or walls climbable. Big NO.
    3) Go the BotW way. Theme them all similiar (like all were build by the Zonai). Maybe ?
    4) Full climbing access inside dungeons.

Though I'm worried it'll copy Breath of the Wild's formula a bit too much, and we might not get proper dungeons and just a underwhelming divine beast equivalent and loads of shrines. I think I'll love it either way, but it might not break my top 3 Zelda games. Also, loved the blood moon comment. I always thought that was soo cool and really wanted it to last all night each time. On the future, it seems like they're set on open air, I feel the next one will be like that too. But after that it can always evolve and change. Hopefully we'll see more 2D games.

whether it has dungeons or not, I already pre-ordered it, and I was a little shaky when I saw the dragon car thing... but the footage I've seen since then has eased my fears. That said, I REALLYI fuckin hope it has dungeons, but not the "classic" OOT dungeons. I want OG Zelda labyrinths. I want some stuff to find underground that's not in some super obvious place. I would like some different themes and whatnot, but I don't want linear. I basically want zelda 1 in 3D minus the linearity with the items. I want some kind of special items to find in dungeons, and not just the 250 throwaway shrines with throwaway weapons, but I don't want the items to be so important that they completely cut you off from making progress until you go find the specific thing.
I loved the kinds of puzzles the divine beasts and shrines had, but everything just felt really short and same-y. Same enemies, same shrines with the same colors and music, same everything, everywhere you go, with not much to really do or find ultimately. I still had a great experience playing it, but it was a shallow one when I really sit back and look at it.
The Gleeok has me excited, but I don't know why it's pictured on the bridge. It should be in a dungeon.

Ascend is still activatable for a short time after Link is in the air, whether he has the glider out, is free falling, or is tumbling. (Maybe you can still use it midair as long as you do it quick?) It only greys out in the trailer when he is either still in the air after a few seconds or is swimming on the surface of the water. The only explanation for why he appears to be able to activate it underwater is either it is a visual bug or you’ll do things in the game underwater (whatever that ends up being). I doubt it’s a visual bug.

Many other good ones of course but never felt the same spark I felt with these games. I really enjoy BotW but the amount of pure fun I had with those early games has really never been matched. Might be time for some more three heart runs.
I still need to beat the original, though. Never have! And I share the same exact birthday and age with the game (2/21/86)! It's probably the archaic design that is keeping me from doing it, but one day...

the main reason totk might make botw irrelevant is because it's essentially an upgraded world from botw, there's no reason to go back to the simpler world of botw since you would already know the story and everything that happens there. the abilities are also looking like straight upgrades over botw which just further adds to that. the only fun relevant ability that seems to be missing a proper counterpart is stasis, recall is similar in concept but very different in practice, bombs are likely just an item now and cryonis becomes unnecessary with ultrahands flexibility.
all totk needs to do is capture that same magic and botw will just look like a tech demo in hindsight.

On dungeons (i can't edit my original post): The divine beasts barely scratch the itch. I think the idea of the "do the terminals in any order" is...interesting in concept but I think the execution wasn't as good. As a result, you can't really get increasingly complex puzzles as can't build on prior puzzles, which is why I kinda wish we could have linear ones instead and have the rest of the world be open.
The way I kinda said it in a post on ZU is "I wouldn't mind the way dungeons and puzzles are in BotW (and possibly TotK), if we had a game to those as Oracle of Ages was to Oracle of Seasons." BotW/TotK focused on exploration, openness, and combat? What if we had a title alongside that covered, in a focused way, the other aspects of Zelda?

Based on the released screenshots of the game and the gameplay demo especially, I think Tears of the Kingdom will be a dynamic resolution upscaled to 1080p. At least the UI elements are native 1080p, but the actual rendering probably won't be full 1080p most of the time, if ever. It's hard to tell because the gameplay demo video was so compressed, and even the screenshots are compressed JPEGs. The screenshots still look a lot sharper than the video.

I agree with the statement that BECAUSE ToTK is releasing as what is basically an additive expansion to BOTW (obviously likely more content than what can be labeled a DLC, not saying that)...that it will undermine BOTW. Same Map+ more. Same cooking + more. Same combat + more.
And Frankly, I REALLY don't think BOTW holds up...ALREADY, under the concept of its gameplay being made better and its world being more dense.
Because that's the thing, EVERY Zelda game is three things: Gameplay, world, tone. BOTW, imo, has the a pretty ok tone for the franchise (I like how open and calm it feels)...AMAZING gameplay...but BOTW easily has one of the worst worlds in the franchise, and if that's getting a net boon + better gameplay. What do you have left? Korok seeds? Empty Fields? Trials? What's left? Stasis? If there isn't a way to do that also in TOTK?
So for me, if TOTK comes out and it is BOTW + a real world and dungeons? Then BOTW, which is already not even in my top 5 and low in my top 10...is going to sink to the very bottom of a lot of lists.
Because BOTW sacrificed SO MUCH to produce this "freeing world" and if TOTK can do that + on the same hardware?
It's gunna make BOTW look like a demo version of a better game.

And, they are extremely successful in this space, with no reason to upgrade to a new console until absolutely required, and most people, while they would love an upgrade, are just like y’all-you complain but you love it and buy it anyway. The steam deck will force them to re-examine, but I don’t think they’ll want to compete with it, I think they’ll still carve a space in gaming no one else will take the financial risk to try to occupy.

See I really like that the overworld map is kind of the same, I'm a fan of the concept 'more is good', so for example, the Super Mario Galaxy games and the two Fossil Fighters games have a gorgeous progression between the two where you feel like you're playing even more of that first game you liked, a proper sequel, they get better fleshed out, they become refined, nowadays community backlash and comments are taken into account too, but I feel like if something is meant to be a direct sequel (like what they told us Tears of the Kingdom was going to be) to something else then it should feel as though that there is some sort of continuation of the original piece, whether that's themes, gameplay, message, or even area, we don't need a new map every game, because they could just take the bones from this and refit it as they see fit.
Mind you, we have no idea the amount of time post-BotW this is supposed to be, but in playing an RPG, like you're controlling Link, fundamentally you ARE Link, BotW showed us the land of Hyrule post Calamity and we had the chance to explore and see everything that has resulted from it and even finding stuff entirely unrelated, but as Link, we didn't know ANYTHING, we literally had to trigger specific memories as our character to like have all that knowledge again, and now in the sequel we're playing as Link trying to again deal with some Ganon Doomsday crap, but having to take into strides whatever else is new to his home which he lived in for so long and was so familiar with, at this point he's regained his sense of self and familiarity so now he just has to adapt to what's new and add that to his already crazy wide ranging kit

I, however, think that the 4 dungeon themes we do get in botw are some of the best songs in the series, my personal favorite dungeon themes. I challenge you to listen to the divine beat themes in their entirety. They are different from one another. The games issue lies solely in dynamically adding layers to the songs as you activate terminals. Listen to those full layers in their entirety. I believe that the implementation is the issue, and not the compositions themselves. I just wanted to point that out as in past videos you seem to suggest that the songs themselves are worse than the previous dungeon themes, which I think is a misguided opinion, formulated because of the games poor showcase of its actual music.
