How on earth did this song NOT win the Oscars??? I can't even remember the song that actually won. I love this song and Molly is just awesome! OMG! Her voice! She's amazing!
Right? Amazing tune. Always gives me Goosebumps anytime I listen/watch it. Great presentation and performance by all involved…the musicians, the cutie nā keiki singing choir….and, of course, My Marianne’s amazing vocals. It is NOT easy singing in those conditions they were performing in. But, made it seem effortless. Molly is one of my favorite music artists. AURORA is my ALL-TIME favorite. Behind her is Linda Ronstadt, Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Peter Cetera…and, My Marianne is in that group of favorites. Whoever’s idea was it to use her vocals for Rachel McAdams to lip sync to in the film was pure genius. It truly matched her features and had me believing she would look like the wahine singing the song in that finale. (Well, second to last song in the film🤔🤷🏽♂️🎼🤘🏾✌🏾🤙🏾)
You can tell there's something not quite right when award shows will use songs to draw an audience but gives the price to someone else 😅 it happens a lot unfortunately, but that's just the shady business side. Clearly the people know what truly deserves recognition 🙌
Molly has NEVER had trouble with her lower register - I mean she can still belt some really high notes but her lower register is so SOLID & WARM 🤩 What I absolutely LOVE about her! Note the smile in Molly’s voice in the second verse when she sings the word “neon” 😂 Also, in the last chorus when she sings “Husavik ved Skjalvanda”, there’re tears in her eyes & her voice is shaking 😭 This performance meant EVERYTHING to her! Having followed this girl for so many years, I know she’s singing here as if her life depended on it. To mention a few things about her life: when her parents divorced when she was nine, she found out that she had a half brother, she was bullied for her body type in her teens, she got diabetes at 20, was told to lose 10kgs when she was trying to get a break in LA & a few years ago she had a painful & public breakup from her then fiancé. In 2020, she’d just started a tour (in Sweden) when the pandemic hit. This girl’s a fighter! Honestly, there’re SO few singers who move me as she does! She was born with a very emotive vocal quality & she uses it here to PERFECTION but at the same time the emotions are REAL. She’s real! There’s nothing fake about this girl - she was so grateful about this Oscars experience (all of Husavik helping out) that she was lost for words. And she managed to channel all her gratitude into the song & it’s ABSOLUTE MAGIC!!! 🤩
It is stunning isn't it. ;) Thank you for elaborating on her experience. I always love to hear about singers and their backgrounds as to how they got where they are.
Hi Mathilda, I just wanted to add that I hope you didn't think I meant Molly was having trouble. I meant if you the singer were having trouble. I am not at all making comments about Molly's ability here. 🥰
@@ZoeStibiVocalCoach No, I didn’t! I just wanted to stress how amazing her alto register is - even when starting out as a young teen, she’d handle the low notes really well compared to most 🤗
The Oscar performance is simply amazing. From her awesome vocals to the local children as the chorus and the northern lights in the background. Amazing..
She did do wonderfully - and it was very moving (and you rather wished folks had to cast their votes AFTER listening to each song that night!). The one disappointment, though understandable, is that she didn't sing the "speorg note" (a high C-sharp) at the end -- key in the plot, not to mention bringing the house down in the movie itself.
15 years in the states, born and raised in Sweden. Haven’t been home in three years. 😢 Thanks for doing a reaction to Molly, and her awesome performance. ❤️
The first time I heard this song I cried my eyes out! I come from the same town as Molly and listening to it made me think of the many many years I have been away from my beautiful hometown! It is such a beautiful song and everybody who is far away from home can identify with it. The song and Molly's voice go right into your heart ❤️
The context of the song from the movie really launches it to a new level too. Small town folk with huge love and pride in their home submitting their entry into an international competition and knocking it out of the park because of the incredible sincerity of the song. Making a competition winning entry, but falling short due to a technicality of it not being the song that was submitted for the competition, but everyone knows that it's the greatest song of them all. Then to have them not get the Oscar even though we all know it was the best, due to Oscar politics or whatever it is. It's all so poignant!
Of course, Lars himself explained to us immediately BEFORE the song that it would NOT win (much as it deserved to!), referring, it turns out, not just to the fictional Eurovision competition, but to the real world Oscars: "The perfect song isn't the winning song, but a song that comes from the heart."
You're not alone Zoe, I'm an expat living in the south of Europe, but originally from Sweden (home of Molly), and haven't been back for many years, there's no way to watch this without crying. It doesn't get any better in the Acoustic Live Video with Molly, recorded on Öland (an island at the Swedish east coast) with its amazing landscape and the sea as backdrop to the video... Molly, we love you!
Another stunning Swedish singer is Helen Sjöholm, here with Gabriella’s song from the movie ‘Så som i Himmelen’ (‘As in Heaven’), where Helen plays a woman married to a wife beater. This is her ‘Liberty song’ in the end of the movie ❤️ (I’m sharing this link as it is practical with the lyrics being translated into English in it 😊) ruclips.net/video/3FCPY0Oz4Rc/видео.html
Molly has a really warm and "clean" voice that somehow touches the heart.. few are lucky with that, but also add that she is really working with her lyrics as well, trying to understand them before bringing them to us.. but that said- this song and her voice- that is just pure magic..
This song literally gives me the shivers, it’s absolutely amazing. However, the reason for my comments is to commend Zoe Stibi for the way she explained some of the technicalities/techniques.
Amazing song!!!! I love Molly’s voice! You may love her song “den finaste någon kan få”. She won the Junior Eurovision Song Contest with that song when she was 13 ❤️
I think most of us go back to our hometown or wherever our home feeling is when we hear this song. Beautiful! Isn't wonderful to go back to that place in our hearts?
your emotional reaction really moved me and i’m … 🥺😭 love this video! molly’s performance is absolutely mind blowing tbh, hard to put words on how amazing it is.
I like you show youre feelings like that, its cute. The song really hits you hard and I say that as 50+ guy. I am from Sweden and have heard Molly live a few times and this isnt the only song she does that makes people feel like you do in your video. She is so underrated. She could have been a huge star and had that opportunity when she went to the US when she was younger. The problem was, this cant be said in a ”nice” way….she was told by some managers to loose a lot of weight…how that makes me feel, cant be said with words you can use on youtube. I cant even imagine how she felt about it. I think the song would have won the oscar, the big ”issue” with it…it was performed in a comedy. That made a serious song look a little ”unserious”. I hope she will have another opportunity, she can sing the roof of an arena and is a really nice and down to earth girl and she is worth so much more recognition in the world. She also is a diabetic, so she would be a good role model, especially for kids fighting with that.
This is the best version of this fantastic song. For us Icelanders. Molly's Icelandic is finally correct - though there are some "grammatical" errors in the text. But that is not Mollys fault, she didn't write it ;) Why this didn't win the Oscars is totally weird, this was not only the best song but also the only song that was an actual part of the movie. Perhaps they didn't give it the "label" since it was a Netflix movie?
I left my home country in 1979. When I hear this song I break down in tears as if I was 9 years old again leaving my hometown. I can never go back as I escaped a horrible dictatorship. I am grateful for the life I have here in USA but but the longing to be home again, to live free there, enjoy the beauty of my home country will never go away.
I love how Molly got overwhelmed at 3:53, you can see her teary eyes, and then at 4:03 she kinda braces herself to continue singing. What a great song and perfomer!

I've listened to this song more than a hundred times, and it still gets me every time. Hi Ray, thank you so much for such a lovely commitment! I really miss my family a lot so I hope I get to see them again soon. I do my best to be 100% honest and raw in my videos. No putting on any face and letting the music move me. Have a fabulous day!
Really nice guitars in the background, love small-shop luthiers! But I digress... I related to a lot of your comments. As a guitarist-first "singer", on a quest to become a passable vocalist, my ears are always perked for helpful techniques to try. Your "sigh to hit low notes" and "puppy wimper" suggestions both fit the bill. Thanks! On a more personal note, I also related directly to your expat comments. As an American who grew up in Europe and lived in Japan for a number of years as an adult, homesickness was no stranger. I'm not ashamed to admit Husavik watered my eyes too... for some reason at the "where the whales can live" part. I'm convinced there's something specific in the actual melody that's the culprit.
Molly is amazing, she has a lot of good songs in swedish too.(Listen to her song called 'Sand', you can find the english translation in one of the comments below the video.) Also listen to Chris Kläfford with his song 'Cold at the altar' or 'If Not With You, For You', he won the swedish idol 2017 and he also competed in AGT 2019 but did not win. @@hogstromkalle Molly is fantastic at what she does but thanks for that recommendation. Dirty Loops just blew my mind with their musicianship. It’s like Toto and Michael Jackson in one band. 😃
Take a note that that final belt she does here, was actually a very piercing and crystal clear head voice note in the movie. She really went for it and kept it a thick TA sound in this performance.
She did didn't she! The movie version was actually mixed with the actresses voice too so it would be more believable. I love it and will definitely use it for the belt video!
Thanks Emil! This one hit me haaard. 3 years away from my family and probably a 4th this year is devastating, Molly just hit me right in the heart. 🥰 Great to see you here though, thanks for the sub!
Same song coach as Zara Larsson. Allot of the girl Artists in Sweden goes to Johan Jämtberg at Helges and Helges Allstars in Gävle, Sweden. They usually start at the age of 10.
There was such a missed opportunity for Sweden to have Elsa and Anna voiced by two real life sisters!!! Molly is the older sister of Mimmi Sanden, who did the voice for Anna in Frozen 💖 Molly had done Rapunzels voice before but she didn’t do Elsa 😭 because at that point in her career she was moving away from big, showy song and being more cool pop. But listening to this just imagine!
Don't worry about crying...I do it every time I hear it and this performance makes me cry even more :-) It's just something about this song! And Molly is AMAZING!!!!!

She did didn't she! The movie version was actually mixed with the actresses voice too so it would be more believable. I love it and will definitely use it for the belt video!
@@ZoeStibiVocalCoach i think the very last few seconds is Rachel McAdams’ voice, the transition is just barely audible
You taking a break, because, you know. That in itself made me subscribe.
Thanks Emil! This one hit me haaard. 3 years away from my family and probably a 4th this year is devastating, Molly just hit me right in the heart. 🥰 Great to see you here though, thanks for the sub!
This song makes me cry
Same song coach as Zara Larsson. Allot of the girl Artists in Sweden goes to Johan Jämtberg at Helges and Helges Allstars in Gävle, Sweden. They usually start at the age of 10.
Wow! Great to know. Now I want to meet him!!!
Does it being freezing outside have the potential to mess with vocals? She did amazing if so!
Oh wow really?! She would have made a killer Elsa!!
@@ZoeStibiVocalCoachI know…. Such a missed opportunity for to real life sisters to be absolutely perfect voices for Anna and Elsa!
no need to judge her .... Molly is just a perfect singer a 30/20 I give her ...
Definitely not judging her at all. Sorry if it sounded that way, this is more how you can sing more like her. Just all respect here nothing else.
I’m from Sweden, living in Denmark ❤️
Don't worry about crying...I do it every time I hear it and this performance makes me cry even more :-) It's just something about this song! And Molly is AMAZING!!!!!
I agree Lotta! She is amazing!
How to sing like Molly Sanden? Yes PLEASE.
And Will Ferrell... What do you think about his contribution with part of the lyrics of this song?
I also cry with this song .
Can you react to barbara pravi eurovision grand final performance
Im actually one of the choir girls and I remember this so well and she was so sweet. If you can see me im the girl with long brown braids in the middle
Wow!!! How amazing! What a cool experience for you!
Please react to Anna von Hausswolff live from Nobel Price 2018! Anna is also an amazing swedish artist
It’s a total disgrace that this song didn’t win the OSCAR☹️😡😢
Agree! Gorgeous song!!!
Maybe you could do some reaction on singers from old Zealand there are many.
Like Blof with porcelain or Danny Vera with Rollercoaster or Emma Heesters with Strong or Racoon with Ocean.
Yes! That is an amazing idea! There are looooads of good ones.
🥖 🍷 👑 ⛪ ✝️ 🌞 Salut de France. J’aime beaucoup le film marrant avec des belles musiques ”Le concours de l’eurovision l’histoire de Fire saga” Molly Sandén chante merveilleusement. BRAVO !

🇨🇵 Yonne Bourgogne
Do you prefer the way the song ends in the movie or the way she ended it here?
Oooo I have to have a look at the both of them again... not sure!
So yeah....I can´t stop thinking about the guitar in the background that has the hole at a diffrent place.... :P
Indeed! A boulder creek guitar, they have the sound hole at the top so you can hear it better when you don't have any monitors. I LOVE the sound it makes ;)
Please do a video about Davina Michelle, Sweet water
I think it's also interesting that she's singing in 2 different languages that aren't her native language
My vocal coach 😁
Pleaseeee Iranian music 😭😭😭😭

I’m a kiwi living in Sweden
It is Húsavík not Husavik
Can you react to Alexandra Rotan in stjernekamp? Its a norwegian singing contest
Oooo really that sounds cool!
@@ZoeStibiVocalCoach yeah, its established artists of different genres. Every week they compete in a new genre like hip hop, opera, or latinopop until there is just one left standing. Its very fun:))
It seems like and I hope that you Sicelanders out there are happy with Mollys Icekandic-ish
This is one of those songs that everytime you hear it you go: Yeah.... I wanna go home.
Right?!
❤
I’ve never been to Iceland and I am crying… what is she doing to me….😢😢😢
Me too! 😭😭😭
Molly just released a new album on Spotify (all songs in swedish).
Home is where my kid is. But when I dream, I'm on a patch of ground in the middle of nowhere USA.
Pantera cemetery gates music video! Please zoe!!!
Agree too 🤘🏻
I am struggling to get any high sounds out of me
Hey Heidi, what is high for you? What is happening? Throat closing or just getting breathy? I'll probably lose track of this comment, can you pmdm me over on insta?
@@ZoeStibiVocalCoach i don't use insta but i found s singing teacher and I found my head voice now I just need to rehearse high notes a lot. But currently after 2 singing lessons i can sing hold me closer by cornelia jakobs. So thats whats high to me now :)
Lol, puppy sounds from my iPad ;)
Lol my dog barks at them!
If you like low notes, listen to Angelina Jordan. Then your viewnumbers will rise a lot
I can relate to it, living on a different country and listening to your "cultural" modern songs. I am from Portugal and sometimes listen to Portuguese Fado, like (music with english subtext) ruclips.net/video/EWcO2YnWouc/видео.html
