I used to run a little e-commerce store for a few years. When it came to packaging I would often batch out the boxes at the start of the day (folding, adding inserts and packing material) then you can just drop the product in, fold over the paper and close it up. Worked super well for me and I could sort of just get in the zone prepping the boxes while listening to some music and drinking my first cup of coffee :)
Thank you so much for showing your work flow. I am 3 months into 3D printing and running an Etsy shop and its a lot to learn/manage. I'm having a blast though. Thank you for the many great ideas and tips. When I have multiple of the same orders, I just fill the boxes, then tape the boxes together. Cheers!
Wow I am very happy with these resources and they are very well packaged, I loved learning from you, I am new to the world of 3D printing, by the way I am from Portugal☺
Hi Macy, just thought I would give you a heads up, here's an awesome deal at this very moment for "RLAVBL 9x6x2 Shipping Boxes Set of 50, White Small Corrugated Cardboard Box, Mailer Box."
Awesome video! Juste wanted to say I purchased the same amazon basics wire shelving as you did to organize my office and printer spools, this turned my mess into a neat little corner!
How about income taxes from selling online? I don't know how much of that you do yourself vs taking it to an accountant/tax prepare-er...but do you just claim it as straight income? Do you have to deduct for social security?
I use the packing pillows, but I always ran out. SO I bought a machine that makes the packing pillows. I can choose how inflated i want them. Super nice to have.
I'm having just a horrible time getting my store off the ground. I'm selling 3d printed tabletop terrain but just can't seem to get any sales. Etsy ads seem to result in "fake" likes that are totally being done by bots. Still working on other avenues to get traffic to the site, but it's been very challenging (and expensive) so far. Love the videos though, keep it up!
Hi love your vids. Just getting started in Etsy and have a question about weighing your packages here. So I thought when you create an etsy listing you have to put the dimensions and weight in the listing so that etsy creates the shipping label for you to print if you use them for getting your labels. Thats what i did with my first listings I made. So I am confused when you say you weigh each box to get the correct shipping label.
Yeah that’s correct but since all of my nameplates are custom and have different weights I have to update the label each time I buy one. Also when you put the dimensions and weight in while creating the listing, that’s mainly so Etsy knows what to charge the customer if they’re the ones paying for shipping. But since all of mine have free shipping or a flat rate it doesn’t really matter as much what I put in the listing.
@@macymakes3d thanks so much for getting back to me. Ok so i offer free shipping also and if I have a weight and dimension for a single item listed in my ads but someone wants multiple items and etsy creates a label for me to print for that one item, how do I change it to reflect multiple items and more weight?
@@macymakes3d ok great thank you so much i will try that as i have one hanging. I just made only my 2nd sale in my new store and I am so excited. Thanks again and I have learned so much from you already about etsy.
Thanks so much this was very helpful. I have a question. What are the Etsy "fees" for putting and selling an item on Etsy. That seemed very confusing when I looked at it?
USPS does allow you to tape two identical boxes together and claim the combined weight and dimensions. Boxes must be flush against each other with no "suspended" tape at a diagonal (like what would happen if you had mismatched size boxes taped together). Just shipped one to an Etsy buyer today - I wasn't prepared for a double order for this certain product. Also, for inkjet shipping labels, even the ones that are self-adhesive, if you ship when it's raining, that barcode gets messed up in a heartbeat and chances of getting lost in the mail go up significantly. The thermal printer labels are impervious to the wet. Probably worth it for that alone.
Love your videos! How do you ship the flat bubble mailers (for bookmarks) for $1.99 with tracking? Are you using Etsy shipping or some other service? Thanks!
Etsy has an option for “flat” which is like letter mail but for thin bubble mailers. Look up the requirements to be sure but I think it has to be bigger than 4x6in and less than 3/4in thick. Something like that haha
Thanks for all the info! I couldn't figure out the flats shipping that you showed for your bookmarks. It grays out all the shipping options once I choose Flat, enter the weight and dimensions and then.... nothing can be chosen. What could I be doing wrong?
What you linked in the description box of the video for Mini torch is not the same as what you are using in the video? Do you have the link for the one you are using in the video?
I designed them in illustrator and printed them on plain cardstock with a desktop printer. I used to buy post cards from vista print but it’s easier and cheaper for me to print them here instead.

I kid you not I just searched up shipping supplies needed for Etsy a few hours ago and I’m glad you just dropped this 😂
Perfect timing! Hope it helps 😁
Keep the momentum up… it’s cool to watch your channel grow. 😀😀

This is very encouraging. Now i just need to figure out my designs and product😮
Keep it up Macy, hope you become bigger this year 🎉🎉🎉!

Thank you for watching! Glad it was helpful :)
I reuse filament boxes also I get brown packing tape and cover up all the filament markings been doing that for years just as extra boxes
same here haha
THank you for sharing. I’m at the point where I can consider to start selling 3D printed table top terrain. This is helpful.
Great shipping overview for Etsy. I also use the brown paper and I 3d printed a serated edge to cleanly break off the paper, works great!

I learned a lot from this video. I have a bunch of turned bowls I need to put on the market.
Amazingly detailed. I had no idea the amount of work and planning you have to go through to just ship a product. Thanks for this.
Found your channel yesterday. Since then I binge watched your every single video :)
Really helpful. I've just started shipping in the last couple weeks, so good timing.
Awesome video, thank you for sharing. Any chance you will be making a video on making the name plates?
Great info Macy. Keep at it

Woah that’s awesome! Was the machine super expensive?
@@macymakes3d it was around 279, but being able to make them on demand saves space and weight. Long term investment. :)

When you go to buy the label just change the dimensions to whatever the box size is and whatever the total weight is and it’ll adjust the price.

Great video! Maybe consider making an amazon store so you can get affiliate links when people buy stuff from the links
Those are all affiliate links 😏

im trying to start such a 3d printing service/online 3d shop -germany- i hope it sticks
Love the new mic!

There are specific package dimensions and weights to be able to choose flat. Google usps flat shipping and it should lead you in the right direction.

Where did you get the little piece of paper made showing your youtube and your rebuy discount code if you don't mind me asking?
I designed them in illustrator and printed them on plain cardstock with a desktop printer. I used to buy post cards from vista print but it’s easier and cheaper for me to print them here instead.
Hi what do you with your Etsy shop when you are away for a holiday etc and you won’t be there to handle or ship orders?
I usually just extend my ship dates and put a message in the "announcement" section of my shop. I'll only close my shop if I'm overrun with orders.
@@macymakes3d 👍 Thanks for the reply. Love your channel btw 🤘
Thanks!
Thank you so much!
does your item deform in hot summer while shipping?
Usually it doesn't. I have had 2 or 3 that warped during shipping but it's super rare.
You don’t include the packing slip? I thought that was required.
No I’ve never included it. Don’t want to waste the paper. No one has ever complained but if they do I might include them
Makes you wish TPU was easier to print and less expensive than PLA when it comes to shipping out product. The stiffness is there. 😅
