  • It is that time of the year in Canada, where the shorter days cause the vegetation and trees to change color. A polarized filter can really help make those colors come to life. If you know nothing or very little about filters for drones, watch my video where everything is explained: • CAMERA FILTERS FOR YOU...
    The filters used in this video were the Freewell Bright Day filters. You can find out more and purchase them here:

    Love your channel really appreciate your reviews of less well known brand of drone. Just to let anyone know, they are called circular polarising filters because the lines on the filter are circular in shape,not because the filter is round or because you can rotate them. You can get, square, circular polarising filters.

    Always enjoy your videos Steve. I look on Amazon and see PolarPro, Fstop Labs, and Freewell ... as well as the DJI filter set (who makes those?). Any thoughts as to how to differentiate between all these brands. PolarPro seems the most expensive but that doesn't always mean it's best. I'm not a drone photography professional, just an active amateur.

    • @CAPTAINDRONE798
      @CAPTAINDRONE798  5 лет назад +2

      Freewell and Polar Pro would have the best professional filters. Of course both companies sell lesser quality filters either under their own name or other brands. The lesser filters have very little coating on the glass which means it will actually wear off after awhile just by cleaning the lens. The only difference in the professional line between Polar Pro and Freewell is the price. Remember that Polar Pro was a start up company not long ago where a young man just had some companies overseas make filters for him to sell. Today it is pretty much the same, but people pay big bucks. In the pro world of photography, we do not place polarpro filters on our DSLR or mirrorless cameras. All this to say that the drone filter market is very different than the pro camera filter market.

    Hey Captain, First off, thanks for another helpful video. I've been using similar ND filter with my SPARK for about a year now, and never shoot video without them. They are a great, inexpensive accessory for making the best out of your video footage. It takes a little "finagling" with the drone video settings (or not), but once you understand how they work, you won't want to shoot without them. Now, there was one more thing... What was it... Oh, I know, FREEWELL GEAR!

    Great vid, dang just purchased polar pro filters for my mavic 2 pro. Polar pro's are great but these seem to be a better value in that for the same money Freewell offers 4 and polar offers only 3. Wonder if its true that both brands are made in the same factory? Surprised that you didn't mention that one of the main functions of the filter is to control your shutter speed, or did I miss it? On my phantom 4 pro I use 120 shutter and the mavic 2 pro I use a 60 shutter. Can only be accomplished with the filters. But heh I'm preaching to the choir in that you are a very capable drone pilot.

    hey captain! Another good video from you, thanks! Keep up the good work! Your explanation and reviews really help me! However, I have a question. If I buy a set of ND PL filters and mount them on my drone, is it possible to make both photos and videos while flying without having to remove the ND filter? Do you get motion blur with an ND filter on the camera while shooting photos? Greetings, Berry

    • @CAPTAINDRONE798
      @CAPTAINDRONE798  5 лет назад +1

      The purpose of an ND filter is to lessen the amount of light hitting the sensor on the camera, which in turn causes the camera shutter to remain open longer, which "may" cause "moving" items to obtain a blur effect depending on the amount of light and shutter speed. So if you have an ND 16 or below on your camera, you probably won't notice much motion blur when taking a video, you'd need at least an ND 32. If you have an ND 16 on your camera and you hover your drone in the air and snap a photo of moving objets (cars on a hiway), you will notice some motion blur in the cars, but everything else should look sharp.

    • @CAPTAINDRONE798

      None really since if you slow the shutter too much by doing the 180 rule, the image may look pretty bad. Most people will film at 24 FPS with an ND16 and get good results on a bright day.

    • @CAPTAINDRONE798
      @CAPTAINDRONE798  5 лет назад +1

      I have not, but I could see how they would remove the glare off the water and let you see into it. Interesting concept. Have you tried it?

    • @ianpellant9312
      @ianpellant9312 5 лет назад +1

      I wouldn't go fishing without polarised sun glasses. They are invaluable for sighting fish... Just ask any serious angler.
      I use polarised camera filters when taking pictures of fish that can be spotted near the shore. They can barely be seen without a polarising filter. The filter cuts surface glare.
      The other big photographic use of a polarising filter is for clouds. Use a filter to see cumulus clouds as fluffy white balls; spectacular for thunderheads. The filter must be turned till the clouds appear, or the glare is taken off the water.
      Fish spotting by drone in rivers may sound dull... but if you have can spot Atlantic Salmon runs you may have something new. Lake trout running into feeder streams to spawn could be novel. I've never been fishing in your region, so I don't know what is in the waters you sometimes fly over.
      Pacific salmon on the west coast and BC have been heavily photographed for decades.... but not by drone as they gather to head upstream on a spawning run?
