Glad it was helpful! I always make sure there's a fair pros and cons list. If I have absolutely nothing good to say about a product, I might not even create a review, though :-P
Thank you for making this honest review, it's getting more difficult to find good reviews with all the paid and sponsored videos out there, definitely appreciate this!!
Thanks! Absolutely what I try to do with all reviews. If a product is extremely bad I won’t even bother reviewing it, though. Though there are a few exceptions when I’m triggered enough :-)
Awesome hack for those that don't want to remove for each battery change: brings 4 books with you to the shoot (or any 4 identical objects 1-4 inches high). Elevate the drone at least one inch with the books under each leg (leaving a gap under the camera). Callibrate without removing the adapter. The extra inch allows for the full range of motion from the gimbal, even with the adapter on. Not only does this allow for the adapter to stay on, but I find the calibration to be much more accurate (no jitter or overload after using this method)
Thanks for the review! I am compelled to tell you something that might benefit you and others. A person talking about artifacts as if they are desirable reveals inexperience. In professional work, part of the job of a grip and a camera assistant is to protect against flares. You will be fired from a job if you consistently miss protecting the lens. Anamorphic flares, any flares, are a byproduct of lens design and the coating technology we had at the time. Ask a real Director of photography whether he or she wants to have to worry about flares when shooting into lights what do you think the answer will be? What a pro wants is control. Control means choice. Tools that enhance flexibility without compromise are what the craftsman wants. You have no choice that this lens will flare looking into the sun. Your choice is now limited. You are now compromising. You want a flare for some creative notion get a plugin. Now you have a choice. You have control of the image. Next lets romanticize grain and gate weave. :-) Thank you for the review and the excellent documentation.
Great video review. I recently have been getting into a lot of specific ways to enhance video from drones and cameras. I do a lot of let's say, "high pressure filming environments" where the time and extra steps and parts wouldn't work out well. Will release a video about how well drone lights from companies like Litra actually work because I can't find anything other than promotional material about them. Great to see some honest reviews about other gear like this, I suspected this would have this kind of issues back in the kickstarter campaign and chose to follow my gut. Your review confirms it so thanks!
Thanks for the compliments, Alastair! I'm glad it was an honest and useful review for you. Yes, definitely, for your use case, don't fidget with this thing! For those who do have the time, it's a really sweet add-on for the drone.
Step One is missing a crucial detail. Before power-up, remove the lens clear filter. With the opened/bare lens, power-up, allow the system to run its cycle. Then, lay it on its back and proceed with installation as explained here. If you look closely at this video, you will briefly see that as the anamorphic lens assembly is placed on the camera, the filter is missing.
Honestly, having the filter on or off is not necessary for power up. Have done it both ways, but during filming I was going back and forth a lot. Common sense would say to not let the bare lens be exposed to dust and crap for any longer than it needs to be so I guess keep it on for powerup?
Great Video, the battery isn't a deal breaker for me. With that said how many times if any during in flight did you experience that camera drop "pointing straight down" calibration problem. Cause that would freak me out and that would be a deal breaker.
Heya, sorry about the late reply! Surprisingly, without an ND filter, not at all. With an ND filter, I'll see it happen every three flights. Really depends on how much wind resistance, I believe, and how fast you're going.
good review dude, recalibrating the lens wouldn't be a problem for me as I do a lot of commercial marketing and can take my time. I could see it being an issue for someone shooting event style productions such as weddings ect.
I have extended landing gears on Mavic's, upon a battery swap with the landing gears elevating the aircraft will the gimbal calibrate properly with the attached lens? And do you think the Moment is worth purchasing at $199 or more on? Are there any sufficient anamorphic lenses you can attach directly to the Mavic gimbal like the ones sold by Polar Pro or PGYTECH?
That’s their official steps though other commenters here have mentioned that adding landing gear may eliminate the need to do this whole process with each boot up. I haven’t tried it myself yet.
It's a nice option but the stress of trying to get it on and hopes it calibrates is hit or miss. Realistically the size should be smaller and the counter weight shouldn't exist. PolorPro's ND filters uses the prongs to hook up its filters to the drone's sensor. Pros Creates cool filters in the daylight. Giving that cinematic feel Nice and small easy to put store away in bag Cons: It's very easy to break the handle to the counterweight. Takes too much time to put it on the drone Pretty sure this thing has costed tons of drone owners at least over 1K of accidental damages to DJI Drones Night shots are hit or miss depending on location. Engineering and design of the lens could be better. I give it 3/5
Dude I wish they can apply this glass to everything. At the moment it's just for phone and this drone though. For stuff like the Osmo pocket, there are other options though not as clear in my opinion.
flying over a major highway, at night, unlicensed (when they find your youtube channel and ask if you get 1099'd), with a modded drone, seems sketchy af
Hey, you should see the shit people do out there. Like at this wedding I just saw a guy leave a drone unattended to shoot something else during a processional. Just put it into auto circle mode flying over people's heads. Seriously WTF? The things people do. I think you can excuse line of sight attended flying in a remote area over cars in non restricted zones.
Counterweight in the hold-ring, so a heavy Metal, built into the Harnes (Belt?)of the Ana Lens, would balance the Lens .... something which is customary to do with gimbals... and which MOMENT-Team just did not care much about... it seems...
No, no, and no. Not worth it, but this does give me ideas about how achieve similar results without losing clarity. If someone wants to know what I mean I'll break it down
Waste of money , complete frustration with this lens attachment.. definitely will break the gimball oneday...Seems like moment created this lens attachment in a laboratory conditions.. on the fields , it is very difficult to get this attachment to work .. donot buy , it is not worth it with the risks associated..
Finally! Someone who is realistic about their reviews and the practicality of if it will work or not. Definitely realistic about what will happen 👍🏼
Glad it was helpful! I always make sure there's a fair pros and cons list. If I have absolutely nothing good to say about a product, I might not even create a review, though :-P
Exactly! He is very straight with words, telling you ALL the details!
Thank you for making this honest review, it's getting more difficult to find good reviews with all the paid and sponsored videos out there, definitely appreciate this!!
Thanks! I definitely want to be honest. I actually PAY for the stuff I review so nobody frigging owns me. If it’s bad enough, I return it.
11:18 Covid-19 Quarantine is not really that lonely with this kind of RUclips content. Thanks!
honestly , one of the most sincere and ' real ' review about this lens....thank you so much

I got an anamorphic movie coming up and the director ask about drone shots. The budget is tight so this adaptor for the Mavic 2 is a life savor!
Best honest review I’ve seen of this lens. Definitely not worth the money or the time.

Thnx. I dont need to think abt anamorphic for drone from now.

@@villagenerd Thank you very much, great info.
The review I needed. Thank you!
Excellent video! Just excellent, brilliant and answers just everything I needed to know at the moment.
You have a great personality and sense of humor. Also, great review! I want to shoot a movie so anamorphic lens is very important to me.
You have spoken of the mighty Limp Bizkit, my friend. Welcome.
It’s just one those days 🎸
Brilliant video. On point, to the point, techie and realistic.
What editing software do you use to de-squeeze the video? Also what format are you recording in? MP4 or mov?
good review dude, recalibrating the lens wouldn't be a problem for me as I do a lot of commercial marketing and can take my time. I could see it being an issue for someone shooting event style productions such as weddings ect.
Do you know if the anamorphic adapter works on the mavic air 2S?

Moment got my business now, But do you have install lens while the drone is on?

nice review 👍
Deal breaker! Thanks!
Thanks for watching! Now the count is at 2 points against the battery change issue!

Pros
Creates cool filters in the daylight. Giving that cinematic feel
Nice and small easy to put store away in bag
Cons:
It's very easy to break the handle to the counterweight.
Takes too much time to put it on the drone
Pretty sure this thing has costed tons of drone owners at least over 1K of accidental damages to DJI Drones
Night shots are hit or miss depending on location.
Engineering and design of the lens could be better.
I give it 3/5
Very informative.
Glad it was helpful!
subscribed after that limp bizkit joke hahaha
Can they make this Anamorphic Adapter with lens for Autel EVO 2 Pro as well? Also can they make a 58MM telephoto lens adapter for drones as well?
Dude I wish they can apply this glass to everything. At the moment it's just for phone and this drone though. For stuff like the Osmo pocket, there are other options though not as clear in my opinion.
Once I realized you have to calibrate every single flight I returned it.
1 point for the battery change con being not worth it!
Deal Broken... Would like a filter like this but not willing to do that to my Mavic.

Sure way to break your gimbal!
Thank you for the info... i decided to not to buy.. i will stay to my polarpro filters.. xD
Glad I could help!

not good long term for the drone
