Enjoy!!
Floor Jansen I love it! :)
I love it!! 😍
Hey, aren't you in Nightwish? ;)
Troy singing lead with you and Marco as backing vocals🤘 love the harmony
Dankje ^^
1st listening: hmmm, very unusual song for Nightwish, what’s going on
2nd listening: wow, not bad
538th listening: JOIN THE HARVEST OF HUNDRED FIELDS HEARTY AND TAME
Yes, yes and yes!!!
same. every NW song in a nutshell! :D
Wow Kate!! Fantastica!!
That is totally true!!!
Same here😅
1st single: Get off your phones
2nd single: Now go outside and enjoy the fields!
Enjoy the fields while laughing in the face of death ^^

As a wheat farmer's daughter in Montana, my soul thrills to this song. After a year of hard work, anxiety, and praying for every drop of rain that falls from the sky, it is a joyous time. Thanks Tuomas for recognizing this!
I have a tiny garden in my garden, space is limited. This song resonates so much.
hell yeah one single other montana nightwish fan!

The Nightwish band is not a vending machine for coin music. Musicians decide what they play, you decide if you listen to it.
Hannu Nurminen That‘s so true
If they don’t like the song it’s their problem
Straight to the top with this comment, please!
And we are free to say that this is Auri , not NW ... good song (not great) , but not NW, at all....
This is definitely Nightwish.
1996 Tuomas : I want to have a folk project
Tarja : sings

@@MrMusicopath Your opinion
People: you can't surprise fans after 24 years.
Nightwish: challenge accepted!
YES!!!!
BOOOOOOORINGGGGGGGG
I don't want a fucking surprise i want to hear Floor's voice. Not marko's, not Troy's... Floor's. Fuck nightwish
surprise negatively? i'm sorry but this is not nightwish... troy's voice there's nothing special. we have marco and floor but tuomas puts this to sing .. bye bye nightwish
Exactly feel the same! Love this one!
Nightwish is not just a band or a music style. It’s poetry and art!
They have their own genre called Nightwish!
I agree
Tassiana Lopes....YES.THANK YOU!!
Exactly.
Nightwish is a lifestyle, a prime example of how to create musical works of art!
I thought Tuomas can't surprise anymore. Well, he did it again. The begining of the song was so unexpected
Did you miss the last album? After Troy became a full member + Floor the way of their sound became quite obvious: mostly Power and Folk.
I´d be happily proven wrong. I wish there is a track like "Dead Boy´s Poem" or "Walking in the air" on the new album. Didn´t happen on the last 2-3 albums.
I like "My walden" a lot, but talking about directions. Maybe it is smart Tuomas goes the safe route. Who knows how the next singer will be like.^^
@@ArsRegnandi if you look at metal in general, the two main genres of the current age are symphonic and folk metal. Sure black and death are still relevant but their not the popular sub genres. The days of power and thrash are long gone except for those remnants who keep using CPR to keep it alive. Nightwish is sensible to explore folk metal more just as Eluveitie came close to exploring Symphonic metal with Ambiramus.
@@johnellis4881 John, interesting input, thanks for this.
By the way: by more listening i get more meanings to the song. Probably the reason, why didn´t ordered yet. These songs are mostly slow burners here.
The start of the song reminded me of some Anasheed (with just the singing and soft drums), really nice. This is a far more folky song than we are used to hear from Nightwish, but I really like it too (but then, I also listen to a lot of Folk Metal, so I'm used to songs like this).
@@ArsRegnandi I don't think that they are going mostly folk. Of cousrse there was "My walden" but at the same album we had "Yours is an empty hope" that tried to use Floor's abilities more. And I think that is the direction Tuomas is going and we will have many different staff on the album to show everything that band offers.
And I also hope there won't be another singer because Floor gives them the freedom to go any direction :D
First listening - meh, i dont like it that much as i liked noise...
2747391 listening - JOIN THE HARVEST OF HUNDRED FIELDS, HEARTY AND TAME
Ya i feel you :D
this is so accurate 🤣
Agree with you🙌
😂😁👍👍👍
For me only take 3 reps to start feeling the song in my veins :D
I think Tuomas was very right when he said he doesn't like the idea of singles that much. It's a weird song out of context, but in the middle of other 8 songs I think it will fit in perfectly. You all know nightwish by now, from symphonies, celtic, to metal, to jazz to who knows what. Not even once the single itself could truly represent the whole album. I think the album will be a massive musical journey. And every journey has it's highs and lows, strongs and softs, sads and even happy elements(hence harvest). People who love music will deeply enjoy this album I'm sure of it. Nightwish isn't about being a metal band its' about telling a story and this song gives me vivid scenes of people enjoying their harvest during the last hours of the day and it makes me feel great. Writing elvenpath 2.0 after 20 years would be silly.
Great comment, change is a part of life itself
I’m not here just to bang my head, but also to listen and be inspired by the stories NW tells.
Absolutely agree!
Doesn't sound weird out of context at all. This is a killer track. Probably going to end up being one of my favorite NW tracks. I love this folk salad.
It is a metal band, well not in this song obviously.
"It doesn't sound like Nightwish"
But Nightwish have been doing the occasional song outside of their usual styles for years, and it's one of the things I love most about them. The Islander, Turn Loose the Mermaids, Eva, Last of the Wilds, all tracks I adore
It sounds like Nightwish because it IS Nightwish.
To me, it has the "oniric" sound that always characterized nightwish songs. Doesn't it makes you feel home? It's clearly Nightwish. Always has been.
Tutankhamen anyone?
Anyone who says this doesnt sound like Nightwish isnt that good of a fan. I love this song XD
Arabesque isn't Nightwish because it has Arabic sound to it, Scaretale isn't Nightwish because it sounds like Disney, all the Finnish songs they made doesn't sound like Nightwish because they tend to sing in English.
I mean what is a "Nightwish sound" really? Random nobodies acting like musical experts trying to say what Nightwish should sound like clearly haven't listened to many songs from this band because they have been around for over two decades and consistently show they can create something new.
Well... if "Noise" was human, this is nature.
While this song is still part of the human side, harvest can be seen as a union between human and nature.
Hmmm I think this is still very much in the realm of human. We harvest and take from nature, but I think this song is showing a lighter side of "human" while Noise explores its darker side.
The nature part is the second album. But I understand that these vibes are very natural.
@@mounawarabbouchi3019 This is literally a song about us dying to nourish the earth. It's...Kind of ouch right now with the Coronavirus, but it's not like it's their fault if we live up to expectations.
Or...die by our stupidity, really.

2:42 - Epicness, Uplifting. 4:15 - Hope and Inspiration. In one word : ART! Thank you, Nightwish!
You are missing the last one, 4:52 Acceptance.
thrilling
exactly!
One of the few in the comments that gets it.
I always love when they add a folk element to their songs (My Walden, Turn Loose the Mermaids, The Islander).
The are fun to dance to and add a fun contrast to some of their heavier pieces.
Yep. Same.
Exactly. A nice reprieve in between the heavier tunes.
Me too. I think it fits perfectly in their style!
They've done it since their first album. Nightwish is a great blend of metal, classical and folk music.
The moment the drums started, I leaned back, closed my eyes and sat to listen. I have like every song they have put out with the folk feel just as much as the rest, who ever they have singing them, it seems. The Carpenter was the first NW song I heard a very long time ago now, a friend who's family was from Ukraine had sent it to me.. in snail mail.. of all things.. that far back.. lol.
You can tell Tuomas definitely pulled a lot of inspiration from his side project AURI for this song.
That drum intro is definitely from Auri
This is basically just the Auri track that made it to the Nightwish album.
I was thinking the exact same thing!
Auri
He was lost and Auri kind save him from the blankness he was in.
I'm loving Nightwish right now for simply not giving a fuck about what people expect from a single release.
It seems Nightwish has gotten to a point where they can do music they truly enjoy and I'm happy for them!
Edit. I was more of a fan of melancholic Nightwish but at the moment I gotta say the new one might be my favorite album from them. It almost feels like instead of an ordinary collection of songs Human Nature is a single piece of music with two parts and many very different movements
They got their innocence back.
Isn't that what they've always done? Remember 2005, they created a huge rapture between the fans and they still kept going.
@@High_Monk I haven't been a fan for that long I think since 2013 but what happened in 2005, I do know they have had vocalist change but that's about it.
@@bryanmartinez6600 It wasn't "just" a vocalist change for the fans though. It literally created a war between us and the band lost many of their followers. If the old fans remember their Guest Book, hi, I was there.
I was only 15 at the time and Tarja's departure felt like losing part of my family. But I learned to love them without her and so did many others.
@@High_Monk the thing is that while both parties (Tarja and NW) are over it (and have been over it for some time now), there are so many out there who still hold a grudge. I mean: they comment under every new NW song. Why bother? It must have been a serious insult to them.
I remember having a talk with a fellow fan who was 100 % sure that the band will go down following Tarja's sacking. One album perhaps, no success and the fall into oblivion...you see where this lead to
Well, I think it is clear to everyone now that Nightwish is on a path of exploration and experimentation, that will eventually outgrow any genre label that one may try to stick on it. There's the musical genius and creativity of all members, working together, branching out, trying out things, taking advantage of all three vocalists to shape new and unexpected soundscapes.
What a band. What a band.
@@floorjansenhaters1659 Then don't listen to. You don't have to be here at all.
Get a life.
Yeah I think it's clear for everyone that Nightwish is on the path of Taylor Swift.
@@floorjansenhaters1659 Why choose to hate, when you have countless others to love?
@@floorjansenhaters1659 What a sad troll you are.
@@floorjansenhaters1659 Tarja was the last amazing singer, but Flore does a great job, Annette was nothing special. It's just a shame they are going down this shit folk direction. They should do more like "noise"
It's a mix of Disney vibes, Auri (another Tuomas and Troy project with Johanna Kurkela) and the "My Walden" sound.
Troy deserves to shine, the backing vocals of Floor and Marco are great even without "stealing" the scene, everything is perfectly balanced.
I already love this song, it's an hymn to the nature and also in contrast with the "Noise" theme
💛🍁🍂🍃
Guessing this is some of the "nature" part of the album. I love it. :)
@@happyness1775 Yes, I would say the same. It's seems to be the contrast to Noise (Human) - it's purely nature :) It's soothing, after all the noise.
I don't believe it's in contrast to "Noise". Another similar message, from a different perspective.
i would say... hymn not to the nature at all but to the nature in souls of each of us. i understand this like this
It's not Thomas. It's Tuomas.
Can´t wait to see Floor dancing and singing along in the second part of the song
I swear I was envisioning the *EXACT SAME THING* 😎
Or maybe she won’t be on stage, as they usually do when they are not doing something. Just saying
This sound like a new I Want My Tears Back you know
But i agree, maybe she's gonna leave in the second part and let the boys do their job hahaha
I believe this is a off stage song for her. Of course it would be cool to see her aswell.
Does Floor do that much "off stage"? Tarja always did, because Tarja.
Damn Tuomas did it again, jesus this guy can write songs.
One of the best composer in the world for me.
yes, he can... but is it still NW? Just opinion.
@@6atoH4ik It is Nightwish. They just take some risks and go out of their comfort zone. Not a lot of bands have this courage.
@@ThyLLiS- I can say different. I think, Tuomas is tired to write metal-sounded music. (old stile). out of comfort zone? the previous one, noise, was written by using a template. TA-TADADA-TA-TADADA. that is really a comfort zone. We've heard this rhythm previous, not even in single song. Isn't it? Just hear it once, and you'll hear it everywhere, in every new song. almost fully in previous album. Alpenglow, endless forms most beautiful, shadder before the beautiful... and here is the same... Psychology is beautiful
After hearing "Noise" I thought I had an idea of how this album would go. But this song just threw me off track. In a good way. Tuomas wrote some pieces that integrated almost all of my favourite things in music and will always cherish him for that! Isn't it April already?
In fact, the album is a part human (technology, fears, happiness, etc) and the part nature is only music... because is a conceptual album.
@@AoshiSama21 I really did expect a contrast between the songs, but this one exceeded my expectations. As always. And I love it!
Noise is about the rise of technology and demise. Harvest would be after, when technology collapse and humans sings to the Earth, basically a harvest song xD

Oh lord have mercy this song is BEAUTIFUL. It's SUCH a departure from the first song off the album, too. I can already tell this album is going to be just as varied and epic as a lot of their other releases. The name of the album itself gives it away, too, really. We're going to be seeing many sides of human nature, both beautiful and... well, not so, as pointed out in "Noise."
I'm so emotional. I seriously can't wait for this record.

If anyone thinks "this isn't Nightwish", I'd ask you to listen to their last album (Endless Forms Most Beautiful) and their oldest (Angels Fall First). Nightwish has *always* incorporated folk into their music. It just shows up in some songs and is dormant in others
Indeed!!!
Any1 who knows Nightwish well will never say this is strange, i agree with you. Thats why i am listening them constantly for nearly 18 years, they are unique and always giving us something new and fantastic. Long live Nightwish and keep giving us new albums till the rest of your lifes! 🤘
Hi floor that is very true it ads to the uniqueness and versatility of night wish loving human nature so far its funny that i first heard harvest at work last night as I work in a flour mill in new south wales Australia hope you are going to tour down under floor
Actually, half of the song doesn't sound like "Nightiwish" to me. 🤔 (And probably, that's why many people is "complaining" about it). The other half does, and it's great. We should wait for the new album. May be, this song is the key for what the entire album's concept is, connecting all the songs...
Arrangement of the first half of the song is rather bleak and flat for Nightwish (even bare acoustic folk demo from before AFF has more volume) and Troy isn't that great of a vocalist to pull it of alone.
Folk Symphonic Metal Nightwish?! Like great old times!!!
Sounds like a soundtrack for The Lion King lol
Wow! You beat me to it

The beginning yes 😂 I was thinking the same
Me also...😄
I was thinking more in Brother Bear mixed with Pocahontas
Nightwish celtic songs have always been my favourites, always giving a happy fresh green touch to their albums, this one in particular reminds me a lot of "My Walden". Troy and Thuomas make a great team, love this song! 🍀💕
To me My Walden sounds totally undone. It's the worst song I've ever heard from Nightwish. It's just a copy of I want my tears back (seen my the lyrics and the song structure).
I always try to be open for every song. But that's just terrible
@@bullet2602 I don't care about structures, this songs makes me feel great, it's all i want from music 😉
@@bullet2602 Tbh I've had the same feeling for My Walden. It's more like a very specific-to-me peeve, but I always thought the "Flying higher, higher, higher" broke the harmony of the song. But hey that's me. If people find joy in that song, happy for them! I loved "For The Heart I Once Had" and found it wasn't that popular.
@@SilverAsakura for the heart I ince had is awesome:)

"All going back to one single grain." And when you "go back" to the beginning of the song there is only one single instrument (and growing from there). Like nature. I just love to interpret/ find those little things in their masterpieces.
♥️
I didnt notice it man! You nailed it!
Batara Al Isra Not sure if Tuomas intended to do that but the genius he is, I am sure there are soo many little hidden things :)
Excellent!
I feel the drum beat at the beginning of the song sounds like a labor rhythm in the field, or the heartbeat of the workers. This whole song comes to my mind like a video, I can imagine it. There is a lot of controversy surrounding this song, but for me it is a successful song. But maybe you're right, Toumas did it before. Deadboy's poem start with only Tarja voice, no ínstruments, because "Born from silent, silent full of ít"

I like it a lot, it remind me a little bit of the islander, a man sung song, beautiful theme, calm
seems they used a lot of leftovers from Imaginaerum and some of DPP, Noise has also similar feel, it would explain why they hardly use Floors voice capabilities
And the air of it is like in the Walden, Last of the Wilds, Alpenglow - with the calm of the Islander.
That singer in Islander is Marco hietala. You should check out his solo album Pyre of a black heart

(The Quaternary code is the DNA code for life)-(gave mankind a rose. So we could see the beautiful die- Nature gave us beauty, and we see it die every time.)
"And child's face aglow before the scythe" (Harvest and scythe are common thing, but metaphorically we are harvest and the scythe us death(death is carrying scythe), we are smiling to the death ahead)
Also at the end it says "Arrive alive" (It means new life will come to the earth in circle of life)- In other words People die and babies are being born.
And the middle section of the song is dancing before the death, or in other words life is going and going until it ends.
To me this is a masterpiece, because it's really cheerful music but it has very grim and dark lyrics.
People don't get the complexity of this beautiful song. But hey, this Nightwish not some mainstream band.
Sorry for the English, it's not my first language.
Totally agree with you my friend. This song can be interpreted in so many ways. What you said makes total sense and in the same time this song can be about real harvest, celebration of life and fertility, just what pagans of the old did.
Great point of view! I like this idea, and it really makes sense. Let me please add one thing: The words, "Arrive alive" at the end are really fitting in this context, to me it means, live your life to the fullest, enjoy your life and really LIVE it, so when you arrive at the dead, you arrive there: alive! (Excuse me too because of my English, I´m also no native speaker.)
@@alegria6771 I forgot about that line. For me the line "Arrive alive" means a new life entering the circle of life.In other words, people die and new people are being born.
Also are a line "I will pause before a man, whose path is just begun" It means death will wait for young people, who just started living their lives.
Wow this got dark real quick......damn...
I think Tuomas himself explained it this way?
i'm no native speaker, too, and I didn't understood it like this, but after a bit explaining i know why I got this bittersweet feeling while listening.
And it made song way more precious to me.
For a pure feelgood song I like "Elan" and "My walden" way more, "The harvest" had a slightly different vibe which wont fit with just a happy song.
And the darker theme fits perfectly with the celtic vibe. This bitterweet feeling, the dark and sad undertones beneath the sweet and beautiful melodies is (for me at least) typical celtic folk.
But it gives no sad feelings, quiet the opposite.
It remembers me not to waste time to bad moods, bad people and whining about stuff I cannot change.
Do what you can to make something good out of your time, for you and the world around you, cause you cant take one single second back.
And if you can manage this, death is nothing to fear, nothing evil.
Its just part of life.
The next step in our journey (because I'm spiritual, not atheist ;-), in the endless circle of life and death.
so, at the end its still a very positive message- just from the other side
I met Troy when I was about 9, he was the magician for my friends birthday party
This song is like a throwback to "Angels Fall First" and the three part harmonies are done very well. Looking forward to April 10th. Troy has the perfect voice for this song.
Angels Fall First is 100000000000000000 times heavier than this or noise, and I am really hoping that there is at least one song that will really bring the Finnish metal
@@riferoartisan4658 Have you ever listened to "Angels Fall First"? Your comment is just silly. "Lappi" is heavy? It's at the same level as "Harvest". The title track "Angels Fall First" and "Return to the Sea" are light melodies reminiscent of "My Walden". There's nothing on that album that approaches the harshness of "Noise".
NOTHING to see. Angels fall firts is a record where you were going towards a sound more attached to folk with acoustic touches; This song has NOTHING about that idea and is rather a fierce attempt to reach the "new age" sound of Madredeus or Adiemus.
If these songs had come out on the previous album they would have been better.
@@billattercliffe8655 It takes more for a song to be heavy than just Noise. The lyrics of Angels Fall First are dark and somber, the whole album is pretty dark with exceptions like Elvenpath which is really epic in a whole other way, but it also tells of the craftsmanship of Sauron which is a dark chapter in the Lord Of The Rings Lore. Here are the lyrics for Angels Fall First:
Angels Fall First Lyrics:
An angelface smiles to me Under a headline of tragedy That smile used to give me warmth Farewell - no words to say beside the cross on your grave and those forever burning candles Needed elsewhere to remind us of the shortness of our time Tears laid for them Tears of love, tears of fear Bury my dreams, dig up my sorrows Oh, Lord why the angels fall first Not relieved by thougts of Shangri-La Nor enlightened by lessons of Christ I'll never understand the meaning of the right Ignorance lead me into the light [Repeat chorus] Sing me a song of your beauty of your kingdom Let the melodies of your harps caress those whom we still need Yesterday we shook hands My friend Today a moonbeam lightens my path My guardian.
My Walden is a happy jig, and Return to the sea is a nihilistic song about an impending meteor strike to vanquish all life on Earth. I would say the most "positive" song on Angels Fall First is Nymphomaniac Fantasia and it is heavy in a completely different way. So no Noise does not begin to compare to anything substance wise on Angels Fall First, it is loud but the darkness is not there, the deep and sometimes twisted lyrics are gone and on this one there are hardly any lyrics at all.
Oh and Lappi is heaven because of what it describes the Finnish winter nights in Lapland, references the Kalevala, references Ukko, the swans the barren lake, the silence the animals the ravens and then it culminates with a prolonged tone to the times... It is beautiful awe inspiring breathtaking and at the same time very Symphonic and Dark. My reading is that they tried to give an explanation to Sisu. Harsh people telling stories of a harsh land (which is my main gripe with Harvest, it is too cheery).
I imagine that was Toumas's plan when he wrote it.
Okay, at the begining I was like: "I mean, it's a cool song but it's not really that powerfull for a Nightwish song."
Then, the fully instrumental part came and OH BOY THIS WAS GREAT !
That instrumental part was beautiful.
Their first album had a lot of stuff like this
The song is powerful. The lyrics makemit so

now that I have followed the complex discussion about "Harvest" for a while, I wanted to have my own thoughts about it. What do I like about the song, what do I not like, is there anything at all that I don't like?
Admittedly - Harvest is different than what you are used to from Nightwish. But what is it - is it just because Troy has the lead in the vocals now or is there more?
For me Harvest is first of all a piece that was thrown on the market completely out of context. But the same goes for Noise. Both pieces come from a concept album and this should always be considered in its entirety. Now Nightwish has released these 2 pieces - 2 pieces that couldn't be more different. The one loud, intrusive and with a strong message. The other one quiet, fresh, dark (don't let the lyrics video distract you) - in my opinion the lyrics are in strong competition with the music.
I have to ask myself the question - before the album was even released completely - what did the majority of the fans expect? Why do I call myself a fan...
For me Nightwish is a group of exceptionally good musicians who could and do prove their class in other ways. Tuomas is a composer who just doesn't release 2 albums a year. On the one hand because he doesn't want to and he can't - such complex compositions can't just come out of a hat. It is much more art than commerce - how long did Leonardo work on the Mona Lisa?
For me Nightwish is a group that is constantly evolving - so this time Tuomas decided to let all three singers off the leash and show us what skills they all have. Especially Harvest showed me now how much I underestimated Troy... But also Floor - I never thought that she would be able to take herself back so much and take over the backpart. It sounds exceptionally good - also the interaction with Marko is very good. These 3 simply harmonize incredibly well together.
For me I can say without hesitation - what I know about the album so far and the two songs I have heard from it so far (without knowing the big context) -- it has bound me even more to Nightwish and I am looking forward to the new album all the more. Knowing that I will then hold another work of art in my hands.
What did the fans expect? Anyone who is a true fan and has been following Nightwish, Toumas, the other members and their other work would not have expected anything less. They have years of experience experimenting with different concepts and sounds and they have older songs that have a folkish vibe to them. A lot of people are just upset because it's not "metal" it's not supposed to be "metal" this is Nightwish. Tuomas may have maintained similar sounds over the years but he has experimented plenty also. The sound of Nightwish should not be definied by one sound but by all that they do. This for me is as genuine as any other song that they have done. Was I surprised? Of course I was but I certainly wasn't dissapointed either. I just wish more fans could understand this. Tuomas is a genious and nobody should ever define a genious.
@Grey beard and @John
Beautiful words, very well and true spoken. Thank you.
What did I expect? Honestly, I expected brilliant and complex music pieces that tells a story that I would want to hear, as usual when it come to Nightwish, it is not all about the singer or the drummer or any single instrument that "sells" the band, its the whole thing that starts with Toumas and only finishes after every single member brings his and her own unique brilliance, Heh, from what I understand, the very last song is a real long one, that is all instrumental, am looking very much forward to enjoy that one. :)
We know quite a bit about the album. First section includes songs about human nature. Noise was about addiction and vanity, harvest is about death and acceptance of it. There were few others Tuomas was talking about interview which I forgot.
Why i do expect? Nothing less! It's a brilliant team of musicians, with talent singers, with strong personalities and a very humble nature. They have all the package.
I love the first 😍 song with Floor but this song with Troy suprise me positive and i do love it more, the sweetness of Troy's voice, the lyrics and the complete harmony with Marko and Floor in vocals. And the great music 👌 who travel my mind into fields of my childhood.Great job again NW.

Love this song so much. It’s on repeat on my iTunes just like Noise was. It’s so different. I’m so glad Nightwish doesn’t stick to just one kind of music. I’m so grateful NW is here not just to appease fans or non fans, but also to tell stories. Who is doing it like Nightwish?
If they don't appease fans then whom are they writing to? Non fans don't listen to NW. And they're losing old fans by the minute.

It's nice to see that Troy gets more singing parts (or in this case even a full song for himself). You can feel the Irish Folk vibes in this one and who'd fit the vocal part better than an Irish?
It's a great ballad, well done! Gives me "The Islander" and "My Walden" vibes
Or even an Englishman. At least he has the decency to be Cumbrian.
definitely My Walden 2.0.
Troy is not from Ireland. He's from the North of England (no not Scotland). The isles of Britain and Ireland produce a lot of folk and it not all celtic/Irish folk. (Checkout Northumbrian Pipes, although he uses Uilleann Pipes which are very similar).

I have to admit that at first I didn't like the song too much, but after I discovered that the narrator was death itself, my perspective about the song changed and now I love it.
:D :D this comment is way too underappreciated. I can't stop laughing and keep getting mental images of the skeleton dance in Tribal
I have already seen some criticize the sound of this song. "That's not Nightwish!"
Just think if the Beatles never progressed from "Love Me Do" or "She Loves You" to "Sargent Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band" or the "White Album" or "Abbey Roads"?
We have to let bands grow, progress, adapt different styles and varied sounds.
Don't trap a band into sounding exactly the same 20-30 years after they formed.
Just sayin'..
That's always the problem with some fans with any band. Evolution is part of every band!
It has to be done, or else they will be forgotten and would fade away. Or be seen as a 1 trick pony🙈
But are they really "fans" if they only like 1 specific type of sound of a band?
I mean, what is Nightwish? Nightwish is always evolving, looking for something new, something they have never done before. To expect the band like this, or any other band, to just do the same things for years is actually stupid. I love this song and I love seeing what new they can come up with.
Who love music, love Nightwish.
The people saying that clearly only listened to the first half of the song because the second part has that original Nigthwish vibe, while the first one brings something new to the table.
I think this is going back to the roots of Nightwish.
If Eluveitie and Yanni would like to have a child, it would be like this song.
First part was ok, second part is epic.
This
Among Nightwish songs this is far from epic and you know it.
@@leosurname6993 This is relax and calm song puting smile on your face.
Came here to say exactly this. Also, with NWs last two albums, SO MUCH was pre-recorded orchestral tracks not the band playing, so just simply Toumas's composing being displayed.
With these two singles, I can hear the vast majority of the music coming from the band members' instruments. Ie. It's actually nightwish, not merely the "Composing of Toumas" (last 10 minutes of Greatest Show on Earth, anyone?).
So, good on you NW!
Leo Surname Why are there always people like you? People are allowed to like stuff you don’t like dude. Get over it.
I guess almost everybody had conflicting opinions listening to this song at first time. In my case, from second time on it became part of official bathtime playlist.
Anyone who listened to thid for the first time probably thought that it wasnt quite likr nightwish, but then as soon as it reached 2:30 everyone goes. Damn there it is
This song is beautiful, I feel it reflects on both our emergence as a species and on our development of agriculture, which was a huge chapter in human nature, where we stopped roaming and began settling.
The song starts with simple percussion and a single voice, and more layers are added. The hundred fields are both us and our literal crops, both of which started from a single source (or grain).
I think water the field and surrender to the earth means water your crops and surrender to nature’s will if it grows, and also means continue the human race - see your children grow, and then accept that, in death, you will return to the earth.
I see a lot of comments that this isn’t Nightwish, but this song really speaks to me, I can’t wait to listen to it in the whole context of the human nature album!!!
After a complicated video like Noise this is really simple. I was hoping to see Nightwish holding a stalk of rice in the field or picking an apple in the garden with a happy smile. End the video with a dance scene by a fire, for example. But the contrast is also good, showing that nature is simple and happy, and human society is noisy and chaotic. I really like the message of the song: You take something from the earth, and you have to give back to the earth, even yourself. "Water the fields, surrrender to the earth". Sorry for my bad English. I don't know how many mistake i made in this paragraph. By the way, It's convenient for fans to sing along
And yet, it contains a carefully-inserted rebuke against religion. He is a very crafty man, our Tuomas. 🤘

This is the first track I think of when I think about Nightwish nowadays. But since it´s so unique, I can see why it divides people.
The first Nightwish song I ever really heard was Sleeping Sun. That was a slow one. Still one of my favourites.

Like the grain in the field, this song grows on you.
I will admit to being disappointed at first with the album, but I was looking for more of the Everdream, Storytime, Ghost Love Score type sounds. With that said I dont think I gave this album a fair shake. While being a different sound from what Im used to I must admit that its growing on me more each time I listen to it. This shows the bands even wider diversity in talent and that Nightwish is not just a "one trick pony". I have taken back my disappointment claim that I had posted before and now give this a thumbs up while opening my mind a bit allowing myself to enjoy all of the talents and styles this awesome band is capable of. It is a matter of personal taste for people whether they like it or not but this is just my own take on it. I so wish I had known about this band many years ago. Have been a huge fan of Nightwish since stumbling across them in 2018 and still am. Thank you for what you do.
I have since 1999 , they have been a big part of my life, I have seen them live with all 3 of there singers over the years, the previous album was disappointing but I got myself to like it , maybe through musical Stokholm syndrome by listening to it over and over , but this one, despite all of my attempts to get into it , I cant help but dislike it. I used to be firmly convinced I would die a nightwish fan, but now I, much to my surprise , cant call myself one. Yeah , indeed taste is personal , artists evolve and re-invent themselves all the time and arguably they don't own fans consistency, more power to you if you enjoy it, I know I am just bitter and ranting at this point, cant be otherwise it feels like a bad break-up after a good 21yo relationship.
FLOOR ,,I gotta say ...Tuomas is a Genius i compare him to the great Hans Zimmer ...yours and Marcos backing vocals are insane ..and Adding Troys vocals is a win win for Nightwish ..cant wait to hear the rest of the album ..im so glad i live in the time of Floor Jansen and Nightwish ....
So it was Troy on the vocals? He has a fantastic voice
@@UnusualElan yep it's Troy! I love his voice in songs like this. Check out Desert Flower from Auri Troy sings on that one as well.

You're on spot with your comparison - Tuomas himself stated multiple times that Hans Zimmer is one of his big inspirations. And yes, again and again, I repeat myself - Tuomas is a genius unlike any other. In the best sense.
Even in this song - you can say its not "typical" Nightwish, while at the same time, you can hear in the song that "oh yeah, it's still Nightwish, just a wee bit different, but still being them". I can also hear some musical nuances here and there just shouting "this is Tuomas"....love that :)
I have mixed feelings but every Nightwish song grows on me until I'm absolutely obsessed with it so it might just take time xD It sounds a bit like a Lion King song, which I liked, a bit with Islander vibes and also a bit of the Angels Fall First album vibes (especially Lapland). It reminded me of more, let's say, experimental Nightwish songs like Tutankhamen (which I love) and the aforementioned Lapland. I think that maybe Marco's voice would've been better because he has more of that... powerful yet melancholic emotion when he sings but oh well. People saying this isn't Nightwish should listen to the earliest recordings; this IS Nightwish.
I think they should have stuck exclusively to the softer side of things, or gone all in on the guitars and drums. Having both makes the song seem disjointed, and a softer Nightwish song would have been an excellent choice.

A tiny valorous straw
Among the millions
Facing to the sun

Something unsung our way comes

So we could see the beautiful die
The strange peace of storm
Hovers over crops
And a child's face aglow before the scythe
Join the harvest of hundred fields
Hearty and tame
All going back to one single grain
Offer light to the coming day
Inspire a child
Water the field, surrender to the earth
They have beauty beyond all poetry
But choose a silent misery
The deeper their sea, the less remains
They'll find the pretty words
And tame flocks to herd
There's that, or a carousal of dare
Join the harvest of hundred fields
Hearty and tame
All going back to one single grain
Offer light to the coming day
Inspire a child
Water the field, surrender to the earth

I'm loving where this album is heading 😄❤ I felt Noise had a robotic and almost aggressive feel to it, which felt perfect with the tech- theme. Harvest is so completely different, just a deep joyous feeling. Disconnecting or connecting, so perfectly describing what we struggle with today.
Agreed
The album is about humanity and our relationship to nature, so expect some songs to be very industrial and aggressive, and expect others to be folky and peaceful
First half of the song: Damh the Bard

4th listen-This is frickin awesome! It's definitely Troy's style! He finally gets the spotlight as the 6th member. Then it starts rocking and we get another epic Celtic folk rock ballad!
No Artist can be expected or required to paint the same painting over and over for 20+ years. I can see this is an interesting bold album already..pushing the boundaries. Crossing lines. Exploring undiscovered country. And making some hard harsh statements on the state of our human species. Statements in dire need of being heard widely. Bravo, Tuomas & Co... Well done.
And while pushing boundaries, exploring - this is still so rooted music, lifting its waters form the Celtic Wells centuries old and other folk traditions, connecting to the Noise song with that outro (that piano theme close to Game of Thrones theme), and theme of rejoicing in the natural. And that more metallic interlude is very much alike Antti Martikainen's Metal compositions, especially his Celtic Metal.
For me so far Noise and Harvest are the shortest emotional rollercoaster ever. From depression to huge smile with two amazing songs.
I liked the lyrical concept, but musically so far we've already heard Noise and Harvest in past Nightwish albums. I may be wrong, but since Dark Passion Play there's nothing groundbreaking about Nightwish, let alone "pushing the boundaries"
