Many Neo•Geo games from thirty years ago look better than most current indie games. You'll likely never see a game hand animated like Metal Slug 3 again. It took the animated years to create that and it used resources from previous three MS games. It's the pinnacle of hand drawn dot pixel animation.
One really cool thing about Cowabunga Collection that there are a great art gallery with concept and promotional art for old games. You can see how developers literally drew on paper each animation for each button and stuff like that. It was really interesting to see.
This game is truly a treasure... When i discovered it during covid 2020 playing it on my Genesis Mini, I was hooked for 2 weeks with Shock Troopers and couldn't let go of it 🤗
Treasures of the Carribean is a homebrew game. As were some of the others. My favorite non VS fighters on the Neo•Geo are: NAM-1975, Metal Slug 3, Neo-Turf Masters, Cyber-Lip, League Bowling, Last Resort, Baseball Stars Pro, Baseball Stars 2, Miracle Adventure, Magician Lord, Sengoku, The King of the Monsters, Burning Fight, Shock Troopers, Top Player's Golf, Ninja Combat, Ghost Pilots, Blazing Star, Pulstar, Andro Dunos, to name a few.
I used to rule shock troopers in the arcade. Slice the enemies like in metal slug for health and weapon bonuses. Dash and role to avoid attacks. The game has alot of depth in it and is very addictive if you utilize all the proper mechanix.
As someone who personally doesn't and has never cared about video game trophies / achievements, I'll sell you on them. For a Pro Level Max Tier Streamer like you, playing a beloved series which has its own trophies reveals certain challenges that you may not have considered before that could lead to some fun stream moments, especially for your Rage Compilation videos. This is why I think you should *especially* try a Wizard of Oz no-hit no-death run.
Cyber-Lip is in a hilarious magazine ad where a hot woman in lingerie says "I remember when he couldn't keep his hands off me!" while a cool guy plays Cyber-Lip with the joystick held up to his crotch.
Love Shock Troopers, what a solid Neo Geo title! Great co-op, and the the different routes have made me replay this many times. The difficulty is spot on, too - it's very possible to beat this game on 1 credit. The risk/reward system of having to melee kill for possible HP drops works really well. The final boss feels like bullshit the first couple of times, but it's actually not that hard to manipulate his actions, including the sword thrust.
That Ganryu game was insanely cool. I wonder if Mike is up for learning it and give it another chance, considering how much he hated the intrusive dialogue scene. Magician Lord was another good one. Spinmaster really does look like a cartoon with smooth gameplay.
After I watched your Shock Troopers stream, I went back and played the sequel, Shock Troopers 2nd Squad again. I'm not sure which one I like better, because some things are upgraded, but other things are simplified, or just plain weird. Adding the vehicles in makes it more like a top-down Metal Slug than it was before. I still think both are great games, but not sure which one I like better.
I absolutely love playing Shock Troopers and the sequel on Neo-Geo Arcade Archives on my Nintendo Switch. I would like to get North America Neo Geo AES console someday in my lifetime.
Shock troopers is an amazing game I have one of those Pandora's box arcade setups hooked to an old 4 / 3 Dell monitor I play stuff like this all the time while my PS4 collects dust
Hello Mike, why i am writing because i would like to recommend if you ever play the neo geo games again to try crossed swords I and II really great arcade rpg game and he second one only released for the neogeo cd and or the super spy these three games are more like first person turn based action games i do not know how to explain you will just need to play to figure it out.
Been missing your live streams lately, because...dammit employment. I'm glad you upload them on the toobz. I love how you try to legitimately play arcade games.
Shock Troopers in an awesome game! So much fun. Shock Troopers 2 is fun also, but tons of slowdown really suck, and a goofier presentation are kind of weird.
I tried making a neo geo game. Very challenging. I had made a scrolling tilemap with parallax and some rudimentary collision but thimgs got too difficult. I couldn't quite figure out how to manage credits or have music
Neogeo was well ahead of the pixel curve, well ahead. But the price point was a hard one to swallow. But the way it just chucks around pixels is just beautiful even by today's standards
I would love to see you do "Wrestlemania:: The Arcade Game" by Midway. I think that may be a good gateway drug to the fighting genre. Its super fun, and still accessible to causal players.
Recent game that was awesome is vengeful guardian moonrider. I’m going through the one hit death mode on a game currently and it’s a great game it does have some issues on that mode that you notice more than on the regular mode but you may want to check that one out if you like Shinobi three
Hoping that Mike might get back one day to do a serious attempt at beating Spinmaster. That game looked really fun. Also, should Mike one day attempt to play through Red Dead Redemption 2, we have already the perfect name for his horse found in this video: Nutseater. XD
Never played on a Neo-Geo before! Shock Troopers is pretty tight, especially for 1997. This reminds me of Ikari Warriors and similar games, but with a lot more ideas thrown in. Something like a less silly, top-down Metal Slug. I don't have much to say about that fighting game, other than some of the characters looked ripped off of Street Fighter/Final Fight. Pop 'n Bounce appeals to my Candy Crush addiction, a bit. But it's not something I'd want to play on console. Bang Bead = Battle Pong? That's what it reminds me of. Top Hunter seemed.. it reminded me of Rocket Knight, artistically. Legend of Success Joe.. sucks. I'm sorry. The art reminds me of an NES game or Tex Avery cartoon, with 16-bit color depth. I have no comment on the frog game, other than, it never should have been made. Ghostlop is another Pop n' Bounce. Ganryu is another pretty tight one. Kinda reminds me of Final Fight crossed with Ninja: Shadow of Darkness. Cyber-Lip = If Contra Was Trash! Eight Man = Final Fight clone with some extras. Last Blade = Samurai Shodown, but 2D Magician Lord = Final Fight clone.. but magical! Mutation Nation = "Aww, shizz, here we go again.." Final Fight clone. Again. Neo Mr. Do! = What even the hecc even is this? Ragnagard = Another SF clone. Robo-Army = AGAIN with the FF clones. Stakes Winner = Wut? Treasure of the Caribbean = I see no treasure, here. Spinmaster = Some uniqueness, here. Nice. NOW, I see one of the reasons why the Neo-Geo failed. There's just.. so much mediocre sameness, here. There's so many similar games, so many simple games (artistically), and it doesn't seem to have any really unique, stand-out titles with engaging game play, story, and progression. It's the same thing, over and over again, with sprite swaps. It's like, they developed 3-4 game engines, sent them out to dev teams, and told them to slap some unique sprites on it. Like, the entire Neo-Geo library is one gigantic Action 52. _5/10 videos watched for penance_ _What, you think I forgot?_
What makes you think the system failed? It was supported with officially released games for 14 years, from 1990 to 2004. The consoles were too pricey for most consumers, but the arcade cabinets did very well and were their main income. Also, the guy who made the first Street Fighter for Capcom in 1987, left and joined SNK before SFII was released.
It pains me to say this Mike, but you really suck at Ninja Combat. :P It's very easy to keep your weapon to the end of the stage. You just have to upgrade your speed (red cans) and keep your distance from the enemies. It's a cool game that gets a lot of crap from people who don't play it long enough to understand the game play. Later stages allow you to switch your character to some of the bosses that you've just beaten. Try it again sometime and try to play well.
Cyber-Lip sucks? Haha.. What?! I am losing respect for you man. Somehow I feel like you would give these games more of a chance if they had NINTENDO plastered on the title screen. Cyber-Lip is 10x less janky than most of the "classic NES" games released in 1990. The same year Cyber-Lip was released. You NEED to learn how to play Cyber-Lip. You NEED to know what weapons to use for each level. It would be like trying to beat the Mega Man bosses with the wrong weapons, and then exclaiming THIS GAME SUCKS!! THE BOSSES ARE UNBEATABLE!! So as the kids say, GET GOOD.
I've always been amazed at how good Neo Geo games look. The sprites are so clean and detailed.
magician lord is a great one. still blows my mind how amazing neo geo games look, could easily pass as a modern indie game on steam or something.
Many Neo•Geo games from thirty years ago look better than most current indie games. You'll likely never see a game hand animated like Metal Slug 3 again. It took the animated years to create that and it used resources from previous three MS games. It's the pinnacle of hand drawn dot pixel animation.
Neo Geo and TurboGrafx are so mysterious to me. It's like the New World of old school games.
One really cool thing about Cowabunga Collection that there are a great art gallery with concept and promotional art for old games. You can see how developers literally drew on paper each animation for each button and stuff like that. It was really interesting to see.
This game is truly a treasure... When i discovered it during covid 2020 playing it on my Genesis Mini, I was hooked for 2 weeks with Shock Troopers and couldn't let go of it 🤗
This is great! Something new to watch while I sleep.
Mike's yells are great to fall asleep to😁
I was hearing his rage in my dreams lol
Mike just gets the worst kind of people in his chats lol the pillow rant was epic
More Neo Geo in the future if you can please.
This, MERCS and a Heavy Barrel are all great games.
Treasures of the Carribean is a homebrew game. As were some of the others. Another fantastic episode of Man-Baby Gaming.
Shock Troppers Knife Only

This is the perfect game to watch while eating cereal.
I picked up part 2 of this on switch not to long ago. It’s definitely worth checking out as well.
Cyber-Lip is in a hilarious magazine ad where a hot woman in lingerie says "I remember when he couldn't keep his hands off me!" while a cool guy plays Cyber-Lip with the joystick held up to his crotch.
Ooh, some good ones here.
Mike, if you melee the guys in Shock Troopers they drop stuff like food and weapons, although a lot of the time they just drop point items.
AES = console
MVS = arcade
NEO GEO NEO GEO NEO GEO!
"I'm not there; I'm not seeing it. it doesn't matter to me at all." This is the way.
Love Shock Troopers, what a solid Neo Geo title! Great co-op, and the the different routes have made me replay this many times. @2:30:30 Assmaster420 🤣😂😂
Loved this game back in time.

I'm getting together some neo geo vids. I have to try and beat some of these games no one could have afforded back in the day.
Hello Mike,
why i am writing because i would like to recommend if you ever play the neo geo games again to try crossed swords I and II really great arcade rpg game and he second one only released for the neogeo cd and or the super spy these three games are more like first person turn based action games i do not know how to explain you will just need to play to figure it out.

Shock troopers looks amazing! Like contra . meets metal slug
Still playing this on my Raspberry! Excellent game!
I haven't touched mine in a while, I need to get a proper controller. What do you recommend?
Shock Troopers in an awesome game! So much fun. Shock Troopers 2 is fun also, but tons of slowdown really suck, and a goofier presentation are kind of weird.
I tried making a neo geo game. Very challenging. I had made a scrolling tilemap with parallax and some rudimentary collision but thimgs got too difficult. I couldn't quite figure out how to manage credits or have music
I was waiting for a compilation of Fucks to the rhythm of Christmas Carols.
Merry Christmas Mike.
Mike hasn't noticed it but we can say that he is the creator of the Shit Tune genre.
What controller do you use?
Neogeo was well ahead of the pixel curve, well ahead. But the price point was a hard one to swallow. But the way it just chucks around pixels is just beautiful even by today's standards
I would love to see you do "Wrestlemania:: The Arcade Game" by Midway. I think that may be a good gateway drug to the fighting genre. Its super fun, and still accessible to causal players.
I love how they misspelled LonEly Wolf 🤣
Mike Mattei stream, the only place where you can find retro games stream with insanely unrelated chat lmfao.
also that guns gore & cannoli was pretty fun, you should check it out. both the first and the second game :)
Great playing. Awesome game. Liked the first one best of the series
If you don't have the trophies or achievements, it didn't happen 😂
3:13:10
Mike, dont you know that white wizards can't jump?
you should do a full game trough of magician lord, thats a hard fucking game
Recent game that was awesome is vengeful guardian moonrider. I’m going through the one hit death mode on a game currently and it’s a great game it does have some issues on that mode that you notice more than on the regular mode but you may want to check that one out if you like Shinobi three
Big fan of this game and Shock Troopers 2. Not sure if it’s underrated or overrated or what, but as a big fan of Ikari Warriors it’s up there for me.
1268 1:44:34 stressful boss fight
Mike Matei, you are my hero
This game looks awesome.
Nice I was looking forward to this stream
Hey Mike! Joker looked like a mix between Ronald McDonald and Elvis...peace
great BGM here
How about last resort for neo geo? Good shmup
I dig this game. So much fub
The only reason I can think for you to play it would be to remove flickering and slowdown and might not be enough reason
Not too sure if you've tried the game BLASPHEMOUS yet but it looks pretty cool
Love this game
Can you buy a mini neo geo? Like pre loaded with games like the mini version of SNES/NES ?
Are you playing on AES?
He's playing on a MiSTer.
I can't believe you didn't playGhost Pilot. It's like 1942 on crack.
ive played it on stream before
Neo Geo games are cool!
Shockingly good
It reminds me of mercs from capcom.
NeoGeo rules. Very Metal Slug like
The sequel, *Cock Poopers* , takes quite a different direction but I believe it to be an obscure gem.
I roll weed while mike play
Hoping that Mike might get back one day to do a serious attempt at beating Spinmaster. That game looked really fun.
Also, should Mike one day attempt to play through Red Dead Redemption 2, we have already the perfect name for his horse found in this video: Nutseater. XD
1269 2:54:44 games people reccomend to mike instead of good games.
Shock troopers was never on PSP, so that comment by the chat was completely inaccurate false statement.
Play "Rambo: First Blood Part II" or "Golden Axe Warrior" next. Both are on the Sega Master System.
Knee Oh Gee Oh
Damn! Twitch fucking up like Facebook now huh? 😂
Never played on a Neo-Geo before!

Yo, I'd buy the pillow..
I approve of anime ronald McDonald

Please play the streets of rage 2 hack called shredders re revenge
Bro you need the achievements to feel proud! 😆 Jk
Is this a real Neo Geo? 🤑

I dont even know what ninja combat is. Did I play that?
Yep. At 2:50:50
Yo mike buddy wasssup how are
Game look good. Tuhh
More man baby gaming
Mike seems very anti-Woke, aka anti-bs, & I f#cking love it

If you wanna treat sports games like red-headed step children, thats fine with me Michael. But 2D fighting games: don't deserve this!
Burger Time arcade is good but Burger Time on Game Boy is so much better.
i should mess with that
@@mikematei Yes!
Why did we get so high?!?
Love this game
